    No Electric for the day

When I first saw the note come through my door about the electric being cut for the day my first thought was "Bugger, no air con" but now it's actually happening it turns out its a lot more serious.

No electric also effects the t.v, the Internet, light bulbs, media server, the fridge and loads of other things that we take for granted.

Why do they do this crap on a bloody Saturday?!?!

At our place tomorrow, too. This morning coincidentally I asked my wife why on Saturday, when school is out and people are home. "The company doing the work is Muslim, they don't care."

    The mystery continues. . .

Here on Samui it often goes off. especially when it rains. I got so sick I went out and bought a generator. 10,000 Baht. A bargain. Now when it goes off if it isn't back on within 10 minutes It gets fired up and it powers everything I need till it returns. Not very convenient in an apartment unless you have a large balcony though and very obliging neighbours .

Fucks sake! Even the shower doesn't work because the water pump needs power. This is truly turning into a crap day.

Power is out often here in the semi-rural Philippines (twice already this morning, in fact). My generator, which powers my entire compound, was one of my better investments.

    Please don't get me started.
Everyone in our house has been given a rechargeable torch for night time power cuts.
When it happens my torch is sitting there beside the modem.
Everyone else is groping around in the dark but it makes no difference because the batteries won't be charged.

Can't you just open a bypass valve and use mains pressure ?

I went out for a drive this morning and there were orange electric trucks all down kanchanaphisek road. It looked like a lot of the transformer thingys were being changed.

    Mines back on now!

Thanks FP, so upgrade time. Hope its not as hot as today. If so an outing will be on the cards.

Sorry about that Davis. The power goes out here 3 or 4 times a year, usually for an hour or two. High winds and rain sometimes. Others not a clue one why it went off.

^I have at least one 9-10 hour scheduled outage a month, sometimes twice a month. And a week never goes by without a half dozen unscheduled ones, ranging from 1-4 hours. And, as the antiquated Filipino power system teeters towards total meltdown, it will only get worse. And, we have the most expensive electricity of all of Asia, and the rates go up practically monthly.

At least you got a note prior to the blackout. Out here in the Ban Nook last week - no warning. Power was off for an entire day due to the Fai Fai upgrading their equipment in the area. It's going on all over - friend of mine in an apt. Suk Soi 23 had his off all day last week too.

When I built, had a bypass H2O valve installed for this eventuality but power isn't off that frequently to warrant a backup generator.
