How to deal with barking dogs ?

Came back from Bangkok to be greeted by 2 more soi dogs hanging around here, there's 5 out there as it is, 7 now.

Found out from the neighbour that someone has moved in down the road and brought them with him, but they don't keep them contained and let them run with the other dogs around here.

The other 5 mutts are ok and only bark if someone comes down the road. These 2 friggin new dogs are continually yapping away through the night.

How do I shut them up, without taking a pitching wedge to the things ?

^ That's an idea. I'm in the end house and need to encourage them to go down the road really though. I'm gonna stop buying food for them too.
I think I heard somewhere the smell of Lions piss will keep them away

The pack should sort out the yapping mongrels soon enough. Dogs act out for 2 reasons.

    1. They are trying to take charge.

    2. They are trying to figure out where they fit in the pecking order, and have no interest in being top dog.

    2 is far more likely.

If the yapping continues your soi's pack lacks leadership, and an alpha male needs to be brought in to sort shit out or a human can play the role. Dogs are generally much better at it though. So go get a tough street dog and feed him, let him take charge of the pack and the yapping little fuckas will shut up.

Had a perpetually barking dog outside my gaff a few years back. I pinged a brick at its head and it worked absolute wonders.

You bark - you get the brick.

Maybe a taser would do the job

The missus uses large(ish) stones for the dog opposite, she's not a good aim and sooner or later she's gonna take out one of their windows, and the gloves will be off...

I keep one of those big fuck off water pistols loaded. The soi dogs round here don't seem to like getting wet, and now all I have to do is open a window and they bugger off to annoy someone without a water pistol to hand.

Lots of good ideas here but another is kinda the Thai way which is based on the idea that everything can be accepted, that a lot of the sense of annoyance is based on outrage, dislike of life circumstances ( groht in Thai), etc. In fact it is true that repetitive noises tend to fade from notice after a while; i grew up next to steam railroad tracks and visitors asked how we could stand it. We never noticed!
