They never arrived friday either, had a rather less than polite conversation with their HQ in Bangkok.

Informed them that i would be reducing their next bill for non-service and around 100 bahts worth of phone calls to their poxy company. They appeared ok about it which really narked me

The technicians have phoned and are arriving at any moment to install the new box. I can assure their company that they wont be leaving until i am fully satisfied that all is well. If not then i will be deflating their vehicle tyres, hiding the ignition keys and of course pulling out the Armalite from under the bed.

Oh wait until you see it. I have to get a photo up. Motorcycle piled over a meter high with the new boxes. One guy sweating like hell and having 12 more houses to go to today. Plus my rant got published in the Post today.

Now I can report back he showed up 2 hours late on Saturday with no call for an appointment that was for last Thursday.

I had a dodgy box before. It was actually installed by the True engineer who called to connect us up. He asked us if we would like him to fit a box for a 'one off' payment. This was around four years ago.
Last month the box stopped working, so off I went to Ban More (SP) market in Chinatown, and purchased a new digital box for 5000bht. Lots of Thai's were buying them. Got the box back home plugged it in and away we went. I have around 100 channels to choose from.
Do not walk beside me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me for I may not follow. Just pretty much leave me the fuck alone!

Saw the Dreambox in action today for the first time- it seemed to work great, and I'm tempted.

True Visions to be blacked out late Sunday night

True Visions subscription TVs will be blacked out from late Sunday night to Monday morning when the largest subscription TV operator will make a major upgrade to its clients' receivers, it has announced.

True Visions announced in a press release that its customers of both satellite-based and fibre optics cable-based systems will not be able to watch True Visions TV from 11pm Sunday to 9am Monday.

During the 10-hour period, True Visions will beam data to upgrade the HD Plus receivers of its customers to rearrange channels to accommodate 17 more High Definition channels.

True Visions said the upgrade would also use a new encryption software to prevent unauthorised receivers from watching True Visions programmes.

To allow its customers to monitor Golf PGA and Tennis WTA during the upgrading period, True Visions will allow its customers to watch the live sports broadcast on its Facebook at TrueVisions | Facebook.

True Visions urged its customers to check its July programme guide for the times of reruns of sports programmes that they will be unable to watch during the software upgrading time.

As part of the upgrade, True Visions will broadcast its channels for Silver, Gold and Platinum packages in MPEG4 video encoding technology instead of MPEG2.

Since older versions of receivers cannot decode MPEG4 movies, True Visions has been changing receivers for its customers to HD Plus receives since October. Customers who are still using older versions of receivers are urged to contact customer service immediately.

If you act today you can upgrade to platinum for only 290 baht a month no matter how many points you have in your house. You will then get all of platinum plus the 17 new high def channels for free until Jan 1st. Sounds good for the olympics, the start of the NFL, and F1 in high def. But the 15th today is the last day to do it. I broke down and did it yesterday.

Upgrading receiver software (wherein the channel list is included) takes a few minutes and is a task running in the background and not interrupting normal viewing.
The 10 hours interrupt is the time they need for pulling out old encoding equipment and replacing it with a new one. The new receivers and the new viewing cards has been running in a backwards compatible mode with the older encoding system but they are now switching over completely to the new system.

It will be very interesting to hear from the dodgy box customers next week, the new encoding system will not be an easy one to crack.

^ that is exactly why I decided to upgrade rather than go to the dodgy box right now. I really want to see some of the olympics, MLB, and the upcoming NFL season. The deal is 10 baht a day more. I can handle that, especially until January when hopefully the new coding will be cracked.

As I understand it, posted in BP last week, Dreambox is going to have their signal blocked by Truevisions, as part of this newer HD digital set up. Sorry I don't have a link, but it is stated no more pirating of TrueVisions signals. don't know if that means only TV or all Dreambox signals within Thailand.

Notified yesterday that TV will be shutting down all broadcast signals from 23:00 15 July till 09:00 16 July. If you have no signal that's one reason more upgrade of their HD channels they stated. Sent by SIM's in English from TV.

Yes its been repeated and repeated on a ticker below the main screen in both languages. They even called me to give me the real deal. Do not turn off your decoder tonight. Leave it on, just turn the TV off if you like. Then magic at 9am it should work. If not the secret. Turn off your decoder unplug it, leave it unpugged with the card ouy for two minutes. It will reboot then and correct any problems. Then plug it back in. No shit I got a special call for that.

    Leave the thing on.

Don't count on that, it is very unlikely that it will be cracked.
I know what encoding system they are deploying and it has stopped signal pirating of any kind (pirate cards or card sharing) everywhere else where it has been used.

^ well then I am good. I get a reduction of 160 baht for paying extra for the Disney Channels on Gold. So then its only 130 baht a month extra for 2 decoder points, and I get what I want. Then we will decide. No wonder my wife calls me Mr. Tomorrow. But in this case I get 5+ months to figure out a back up plan.

I just hope there is no play off in the Scottish Open (Golf Channel) which is currently looking likely.

Go online like I did for the fight. Kwang has it all set up for you. Just follow the links and all is good. I even figured it out before his tutorial. Look back to Kwangs post on this sports thread.

You can rest assured that VideoGuard (NDS) is quite mature technology and if they have gone for the option of having the smartcard "married" to the STB it is unlikely that you'll see it being cracked any time soon. Soft CAMs and card sharing do not work on NDS.

Let's put it this way: News Corp. own half of NDS and use it to encrypt Sky.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
