    The Heat Wave 2012

I realize we have had many threads on the heat but this year is by far the hottest I have ever encountered in all my time here.

Tell us what its like where you live in the LOS.

I am in Don Muang, and the klong behind my house that eventually flooded and became one big lake has now dried up. I have never seen that before. We are using pehaps 500 liters of more of water a day keeping the new grass we put in moist as it takes.

All living is done upstairs as in many Thai houses our bedrooms and offices are upstairs and air conditioned, but the living area downstairs is not. We are really missing our shade trees and waiting for the new ones to grow bigger. We are basically only downstairs to cook and eat.
Our meals have changed its so hot.Nobody is really hungry, we have had green salads, Caesar salads, chicken salads, potato salads, and most cooking is done outside on the barbecue.

I think when and if it breaks it going to be like a Delhi monsoon. Very heavy winds and very heavy rain. The whole family seems to be taking about 4 showers a day each as well.

Since April 1st no rain, and not one day below 38 degrees. Its now 40 and may cool to about 31 by the early morning.

    I hope it ends soon.

What about you, and where you are?

Yep, over here in the west its the same. In 30 years I've never known it this hot. All the smaller canals around here are nearly dry exposing lots of intersting rubbish. Another week of this and they will just be a string of muddy puddles. 2 more weeks and they will be bone dry.
The sole air conditioner in the house is getting very little respite. Its set to 29 most of the day and when you walk into the bedroom it seems like a fridge.
Went out and bought some more insulation for the rear extension today in the optimistic hope it might help keep the downstairs a smidge cooler. Havn't had a beer since before songkran.
I've taken to recycling my boxers by wearing them inside out if the waistband gets too wet with sweat. The village is like a ghost town and a lot of plants are on their last legs.

I only hope smeg is'nt reading this and finds fuel for another MKP thread

Power went out here at 4:15 in DM, the whole area. On a lap top with an hours worth of batteries now. Hot!! The whole Muban is yelling Fi Dop you can hear it as you sit outside trying to get some breeze. Normally an hour to an hour and a half to get it back up.

It is what it is, AO. Just got to wait it out. Same here, about 37 average for the last few weeks, frequent power outages. That's why we live here, and not in the US. Take the good with the not so good.

My cold showers are now warm and that is at 5am. Forget the noon showers and I swear the evening showers are even hotter.

    Yes, it is hot.

Here is a funny thing, not!

Yesterday, I (the smart American) readjusted the automatic sprinkler system for our home in BKK. Hell, it was hot and the plants needed watering.

The only problem was with my mathematical brain, I had managed to drain our 1500L tank by 5am.

The wife was not a happy camper. She and the rest of the family (daughter & I) had to take a shower with the decorative klong buckets in the backyard.

My timing for the main tank to fill was a bit off...

Sounds like me, the wife is much more practical than I. My water is quite warm as well. I sprinkled the yard as the pump as off for 45 minutes. More water went on me I am sure.

Just had another shower and heading upstairs to the air with a carafe of iced mango juice and a book. Wife's got magazines, kid's got iPad and BB. So we're all set.

    Hot.

    Stay cool gents.

We are living upstairs as well. As for cooking, forget it, all our meals are take out now. I don't even have to turn the heat on for the shower, it is warm already straight from the tank outside. My dog is drinking 4 bowls of water a day. Hottest summer in at least ten years.

It's a bit windy here in Hong Kong. But unseasonably cold and foggy.

I have just gotten sweaty attempting to mark out the wall in the hallway where I will hang my Polar Bear skin rug, which surprisingly tolerates the humidity well.

Not so a pair of 16th Century Florentine maps I had in Bangkok, which started to show some signs of foxing. So I have extracted them from their frames and brought them here, where I can look after them better.

There has been a little rain in the far North and the joy of some breeze. I know weather is an obsession to Brits but Thais seem to take it as it comes, surprised by all events. My good lady explained it is the worm season ad hairy worms are abroad which while technically not killers have nasty hairy bits. The frogs are gagging for it at 99 decibels Might head to Bangkok for some eace and quiet

my water is a little too hot in the mornings at 6am with all the electric turned off. and the 20minutes stood outside at 8am looking after the children at flag ceremony is a killer in a shirt and tie. and the cars AC seems to struggle with it..

the beer tastes better when i get home though...

I've been going down to the local block ice guy in the afternoons and picking up 3 or 4 large chunks which I drop in the water tank. Helps a lot as my city water is rather warm too.

Been drinking gallons of Gatorade per day and getting chores done in the early morning. Forget golf in this weather!
