    Synthetic Biology - Another Watershed?

Don't know how many have seen this documentary or are aware of what's happening in this field. I have had neither the time nor the spare energy over the past few years to keep up, something I resent hugely.

I put this in the lounge as it strikes me as a subject for Joe Soap, not the intellectuals. Not meant as a put-down.

The arrival of the PC in computing was a watershed moment. It opened up the field from the 'specialist' to an explosion of programmers, hackers, techs, entrepreneurs and ideas. This looks to my weary eyes like another such a moment, just bigger. It has the potential to take biological engineering from the 'specialist' to Joe Soap.

If I'm misreading it, please enlighten me. As I said, I haven't been keeping up.

Though not in depth, it is a fascinating documentary to whet the appetite. A must see if you have no idea of what is happening in synthetic biology.

playing god or playing with god
    going into an unknown
    and with it
who or what controls the controllers of the downside
    if secreted into the environment.
playing with the brain may have an upside, but.
2084 could make 1984 the good ole reality.
instead of 'in god we trust' it'll be
    'in man we trust'
i know which one i'd prefer.
but life makes demands and people look for answers
especially when the motive is profit.

Ethical, financial, resource, management, legal are just some of the issues being raised here.

They are not going to be resolved quickly.

I think you miss the point. This is already out of the lab into the general populace. A trickle, admittedly, but the genie is out.

Maybe you didn't watch the whole thing. the 1st 10 mins about the spider goats is not the issue, just an intro.

if we can get to clean energy supplies
    the medical possibilities.
    the positives will be amazing.

It seemed to me to just push the resource issue onto a different item. For many sugar seemed to be the bottleneck.

The clash between the opensource dna building and corporate industrialisation of the results again will be conflicting issues.

The cost of the biological fuel was reported to be 5x the oil based cost.

All will need to be solved to take this admittedly new approach to the masses. Plenty of minds on the subject though so there is hope, in 2 to 5 years. Where have we heard that before?

If new biotech like this can allow me to live forever then I'll accept it.

I wouldn't mind a healthy coat of cat fur while they are at it.

There will be wonderful things made, that's for sure. But there's huge potential for mankind to do some serious damage to the environment and even ourselves.

Some observers allege that BP & Co have already, clandestinely, used synthetic biology in dealing with their 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil volcano cleanup:

Gulf Bio-Terrorism: A Silent & Deadly Enemy Among Us (PART I)
Gulf BioTerrorism: A Silent & Deadly Enemy Among Us (Part II)

    December 01, 2010

Mike Utsler, Chief Operating Officer of BP's Gulf Coast Restoration, admits publicly "There is a new form of microbiology that is attacking this (oil) plume and using it as a food source". This brief video snippet is taken from a Novermber 7, 2010 broadcast by BBC TWO entitled 'Has the Oil Really Gone?' by reporter Stephen Fry and can be seen in it's entirety at BBC Two - Stephen Fry and the Great American Oil Spill

Notice how Utsler is cut off by his own people at BP immediately after stating this and the interview was abruptly ended.

To understand exactly what this synthetic genome "new form of Microbiology" is, go to:

Looks like this next video was released last Fall. Sofia Smallstorm, creator of "9/11 Mysteries: Demolitions", gives a talk about chemtrails, Morgellon's disease, synthetic biology, and transhumanism at a conspiracy conference last year sometime. VG!

    SPREAD THE WORD!

As the natural world dies around us, what will take its place? Planetary engineering includes bioremediation measures to bring us genetically engineered trees and crops. And what of humans themselves? How are we being transformed from the inside out?

Presented at Conspiracy Con 2011, this 1 hour power point presentation by Sofia Smallstorm introduces primary and scientific findings hidden in the muffles of mainstream alternative media.

People around the world are observing aerosol spraying (also called "chemtrials") and strange man-made clouds. White skies filter sunlight as trees around the country sicken and die. Soil and water tests high for heavy metals, and artificial fibres fall on us from the sky.

Is aerosol spraying only about experimenting with weather? What do the self-replicating fibres found in Morgellons patients signify? Why are engineered materials being found in airborne environmental samples?

All this suggests a planetary engineering program that is affecting and targeting all living things. Synthetic biology is science's most exciting new frontier, combining genetics, robotics and nano-technology with artificial intelligence, hybridizing natural forms and engineering tissues beyond our wildest dreams. The technology explosion is skyrocketing, and artificial intelligence will soon surpass our own capabilities.

How will our world be organized then? WIll we turn ourselves over to machines? Or will we have become technological hybrids ourselves?
