Just give each of your personalities a separate login. As long as one of them uses Firefox and the other uses IE then you don't even need to log out to hold a running argument with yourself.

I'm confused. If there are so many intelligent, caring, thoughtful people on TD as is proposed by this thread, then why are there so many dumbfuck posts on TD?

It's all about the misdirection. The magical act.

    Nothing up our sleeves.

I think it is called maturity. The act of composing causes a natural delay to your response which upon reflection is either a waste of time or adds nothing or....

I actually started to reply to this thread about three times yesterday. So the answer to the OP is :Yes. Sometimes you get half way through then realize it just ain't worth the effort.

i often start a post, and then delete it when i realized i was about to (however accidentally) post something that could be interpreted as intelligent, caring or thoughtful.

With regards to trying not to react to the thoughts and postings of dickheads...

There is no point letting some random anonymous person on a forum wind you up at all. Same as in your professional life, it is best that you don't write and send emails when you are angry.

I actually sent thegent a red the other day along with an insult... but after it I thought 'why did I bother doing that?' - it ends up being a little hollow victory for the person you are angry with because they have got you to react.

Then there is the other case of not posting which may be brought about by low self esteem thinking that nobody would want to read what your thoughts are....

Should I have deleted all of the above?... still got time to edit it out.

I caught myself doing the write and erase dance. I asked myself why I was doing that? I was reacting to a poster and not letting go of the post. Most of the time now I just read the different posts if the topic appears interesting. Most often not. I find myself not having to erase my dribble as often. What we have to say here is really not important anyway, its just part of a days activity.

Pretty much like going to the toilet.

Some have diarrhea (that, mudderfuckers, is without a spellchecker), some have constipation and some just stink to high heaven. Then there are the big, noisy farts. Septics.

I often end up writing something that more or less says the same as another has said, and end thinking, why bother putting others through having to read the same shit twice, and hit delete. I will then usually send a green with "agreed" attached or something similar.

Ooops, have have I just repeated a post?

What's the obvious answer to the stupid question why we can't delete a post once it's too late to edit it?

^Don't post it to begin with. Think about it first, write it, review it and then decide weather its worthy of posting or not. Of course you're going to make stupid posts if you're drunk or overly exercised by someone's post. Don't worry about it, in a day or so we have all moved on to new topics.

Because you invariably get some dickhead, who has been posting like a demented gerbil for 5 or more years, getting their panties in a bunch and going back and systematically deleting thousands of posts, leaving hundreds of scrambled threads.....

Used to delete posts quite often.

Now, I just dictate to one of my Personal Assistants who will then type my post for me, cut and paste the post into Word. Print it out and then submit it by fax to my lawyer who will check the legal aspects of the wording. My lawyer will then consult with a Marketing & Research Agency who will then spearhead a survey drive by performing opinion polls across the nation checking the 'feel-good-or-not' factor of said post.

When the results are returned to me, I then have to check to see if any other member in the mean time has already posted something similar in essence to that of my intended post. But usually, after taking into account a whole host of other aspects as to whether I give my assistant the go ahead to hit the 'Post Quick Reply' button, I still find myself saying 'Fuck it! Why bother?'.

I mostly write dribble but fortunately there are so many fine folks to point it out.

TD is almost like a spellchecker with an attitude, however very forgiving compared to the grumbler nastys over at TRAN Vest Tight
