Bromsgrove and Redditch are towns in the greater west Midlands (or Birmingham) conurbation- SW of Brum City. It's Ok to call it all Brummie from over here, but not advisable over there- much as Canadians can bristle at being mistaken for Americans, so it is with our quaint 'not quite Brummie' neighbours in the Black country etc. Like most every town in the once 'city of a thousand trades', they both have a unique industrial heritage- Bromsgrove made nails (thats why it's soccer team are, or were, called the nailers). Redditch made needles- Aero needles came from Redditch. Both quite dominant in their time. Like most everything there now, they are most probably not made there any more.

Some nice countryside around there, which is a nice way of not commenting on the towns themself. Did you go to the Washford Mill? Nice pub with a water wheel, powered by a stream that goes under the pub. It's about the only thing to see in Redditch.

I sure did, it got really busy one day of the week, my brain don't serve me too well nowadays though, hang on, I will plump for Thursday nights, that's 20 years ago now. Sabang did you ever go the Marlgrove ? What a place that was

I can't find a press article, but it was shut down due to all the swinging parties upstairs. I was oblivious to all that

Nah- never heard of it actually. I was born in SW Birmingham, so familiar with the general area, but Redditch, in spite of it's industrial history, was mostly new estates- not much to draw the visitor. Bromsgrove was a bit nicer, I've got a long lost cousin that lives there.

I have cousins from Solihul that I only ever see at funerals; their fashion sense needs to be seen to be believed!

I've been searching, but I can't find any pics that do them justice... the bars they went to, the clothes they wore; Harry Enfield was far too restrained with his pastiche...

I knew Bob Davis, not too long after he adopted the stage name Jasper Carrot. Great bloke- folk musician really, he used to run a club called the Boggery, not far out of Solihull. Very droll brummie sense of humor, which certainly made his fortune.

The problem with London spiv's looking askance at brummie steel is that you do not even get a look in. Brummie's have held Londoners and all they represent in contempt for generations- they make nothing, lie about everything, and they're soft as mush.

    Good grief.
We staunch defenders of Mercia have something in common.

Apart from trying to stop the Taffs from the west and the Angles from the east.
Lucky for your lot you had the Stokies protecting the northern borders.
    Keeping it pure.

Do you have a cousin for sale?

I was born at Selly Oak hospital, but home was Northfield, not far from the Austin. Me granddad worked at Bournville ( after a short stint at longbridge) for 20+ years, after his jewellery manufacturing business in the quarter went bust.

We built some nice canals to say thanks. You didn't do such a sterling job on our western flank unfortunately, because the taffies managed to infiltrate brummieland in distressing quantity.

    Not up to us.
Blame the Shropshire lot for that.
You southerners are always moaning, historically.
