    Look out Thailand

Well, I've finally gone and done it.

I've booked my flight to LOS. Haven't been over there before but thought that it's about time. I'm coming over to visit my little bro and check the place out.

I'll be landing in Bangkok 12th May and after a wait of about ten hours I'll be jetting across to Ubon Ratchathani.

Can't wait. If I like the place ie. Thailand, not just Ubon, I'll probably end up staying and becoming a miserable old kunt like the rest of you.

You are going to love it mate. First time will blow you away as you ain't tainted like the majority of fuk ups on here.

Hire a car and do a slow drive along the Mekong up to the Laos border and Vientiane.

    Awesome trip.

    Have a great trip.

That's perfect timing for a few at the Pintsman, let me know what time you'll be there; only 45 minutes from the airport, so that'll be a nice 3 or 4 hours beers, relax and a bit of grub (back to the airpost refreshed and relaxed in plenty of time to catch the onward flight), I could walk you across the street to a nice open garden area - what could possible go wrong...

20 minutes on the Express Airport Rail Link-- 100 Baht

15 minutes on the Skytrain to The Pintsman --35 Baht

The look on your face when you see the price of half a pint and bar full of Benders-- Priceless

I will be leaving on the 12th, or I would have come and met you and gave you a tour of Bangkok's wildlife. Hopefully someone else on here will show you the way, you don't wanna sit in that airport for 10 hours

Enjoy Songkran with your brother anyway mate.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes, at least I think that's what they were.

Terry57, my brother lives in Khemmarat which is actually on the Mekong River, so I will definitely take that trip along the river to Vientiane. Thanks for the recommendation.

^ yep, thanks all for the advice. I've been on this site for a few months, so I've been made aware of all the peculiarities of Thai life.

Luckily, I'll have my brother to steer me right.

And don't forget to check in your enculturation in a locker at the airport. It has no place in Thai society. It will get you nowhere.

My son in law lives in Khemmarat. If you like I can arrange for him to come around and ask to borrow some money. This will give you the true Isaan experience before you comit yourself to possibly living there.
