    Tonights Entertainment

I really don't know how long you have to completely ear bash Thais into food hygiene, is it an alien thing?

They go and cook some meal, usually resembling something the dog wouldn't eat (Northern Thai delicacy)

After they have eaten as much as they can, they simply leave it on the kitchen workbench, not covered, not refrigerated, just left.

Eventually, a few very brave flies who are probably immune to Pla Ra and other foul Northern food additives are brave enough to sample the dish of shit.

Eventually, they tell their mates and they tell theirs and before too long you have a kitchen that is buzzing with stinking flies.

So, tonights entertainment involves a can of ARS spray - 50 Baht for the small 300ML, 75 Baht for the Jumbo whopper!

Take the spray into the kitchen and wait, wait until the flies have found enough confidence to land back on the uncovered food then give them a quick burst of ARS.

Wait about 5 minutes, then carefully go around the kitchen and pick up every dead or dying fly you can find and carefully place it in the open food bowls left on the table - So the bowl of slop is half filled with dead flies! trust me, when the Thai sees this, they tend to start covering food a little better, not instantly, it takes a few days until the message gets through, but eventually, they will desist!

I'd take a bet against that contention that the message will get through. What odds are you offering.

If I ever find a Thai that gets ANY message, I'd stuff it and put it in the lounge to stare at, amazed and flabbergasted.

Painting with the only brush I have!

A few years back, we never had flies here, at least not in any numbers that would annoy you.

Me and my son went off to the UK and when we got back, the wife had "adopted" two useless dogs and two useless cats, since then, she chucks food out all over the place for them to eat.

What doesn't get eaten, simply becomes a breeding ground for flies.

It really pisses me off, so, as in the post, I give what I get.

I hate flies buzzing around in the kitchen and crawling all over everything. So, if she likes it like this, then she can have the flies in HER food for a change.

Don't get me wrong, I have met a lot of Thais and they hate flies the same as me, it just seems some of these people up country tolerate them more than others.

I recall one time my wife picking these little white "seeds" - which looked like tiny Chili seeds, off a piece of raw pork - They were fucking flies eggs! - Yes, then they cooked it!

Can Abhisit let us know if these eggs should be sold by the dozen, individually, or by the kilo!

The mother in law has a gas stove, but cooks everything outside on a clay pot and burning wood - she has a knife she uses to chop up anything, in 10 years I really don't think she has ever washed it! My son was pissing himself laughing when he came back from her place one day - the Gas oven is full with about 50 million spiders!

I understand that in the warm climate you are bound to get the odd fly buzzing around, but our kitchen the last few weeks sounds like the Battle of Britain, and it doesn't seem to matter what you tell them or ask them to stop doing (i.e. stop putting platefulls of old rice outside the kitchen door - as it is like a swarming black nest of flies) they keep on doing it. I have thrown maybe 20 plastic buckets and bowls 50 metres away where they have broken into a million pieces, but one day later, there is a new plastic bowl full of old rice and left over shit right outside the kitchen, buzzing with these disgusting filth.

It is a step by step wearing down of their Phsyche - they will not win, eventually they will run out of money for plastic bowls or whatever, but I will stand my ground.
