An Ethical dilemma. Career or Mate; What would you choose?

An Ethical dilemma. Career or Mate; What would you choose?

If you were asked to give a confidential reference for a friend who had previously left a place of employment to another company ?

He left your company a few years ago under a shadow. He/she had been a good worker, but had been caught thieving from other staff. (Drunk, at a Christmas party, going through other female staff handbags left unattended, first time, said it was cos he was drunk) So he got sacked.

Would you do it ? Would you mention why he had left the company or gloss over that bit ?

Would it matter if it was for a company in another city that your company has nothing to do with ? What about if the CEO of the present company knew you reasonably well ?

Fuck him. I hate sneak thieves. I would give an honest reply, say why he was fired, and tell him I had done so.

I realize you don't like a lot of my opinions Willy but if you give this guy a reference you have just flushed your reputation straight down the shitter and will forever live a lie.

You are doing your mate and yourself no favors by providing a reference, on the contrary you are lying to a potential employer who is relying on an honest reference from yourself.

If he steals at his new work place your name is shit.

Stear well clear of it and I'm surprised you are even asking the question.

Honesty is worth everything. Lose that and you ain't got much left

One must respect themselves so we can deal with all the other shit that goes down in this world.

Sorry but your mate is a foking thieving arsehole.

honesty is the way to deal with this, and if you dont want to implicate him directly, then just refuse to give the reference, which will have the same effect anyway.

somebody who thieves when drunk and uses his drunkeness as an excuse is irresponsible, untrustworthy , unreliable, unprofessional etc.etc.etc.

I would disown any friend who stole out of womens handbags, and be fukked if I would go out of my way to write a reference for him, good or bad.

What else is this guy capable of when he's drunk ?
If it was your wifes handbag he had emptied of her cock cream, would he still be your friend Willy ?

    Fok me EH.

There's a first for Teakdoor, Mid would rather rape a Soi dog with a festering arsehole than agree with a straight shooter such as my self.

If we don't hear from Mid again he has just slashed his wrists in disgust and self loathing.

All's forgiven Mid. Don't do it.

Willy, are you the hypothetical person who needs a reference in this ?

We know you have rummaged around someone's bag before

In my work place we have an unwritten code that if any one of us regardless of rank steals from a colleague he must resign or be formally sacked, no debate, no parlay end off.

In all my years it has only happened once and the guy was drummed out the door in utter disgrace.

Unfortunately his brother worked at my station and wore the shame for years no fault of his own.

It a dog act to be a thief especially from work mates.

if this is anyway legit provide the reference to his professional capabilities.
if you know the new CEO as well give him a call and explain the grey area and let him make his own mind up; you may have doomed your tea leaf mates chances but thats now up to the new employer while youve still backed your mate up as far as professionalism if not character.
especially as he was caught going through the bag but no reference to wheteher he was sniffing panyties or filching coins.
if its shagging the bosses wife; well thats none of your business
    we won it at wemberlee

Big difference between that and going through ladies' handbags. Banging the boss' wife might make him a legend, or at least more popular, at some companies. Rummaging through handbags deserves a good kicking.

Yes, definitely none of Willy's business at all but one to be stored up in the credibility stakes as whether the guy is of sound character to be mixing with.
