Thread: Do Asians ever adopt white babies / children?

I know many, many farangs who have adopted Thai kids. A farang couple I am friends with just adopted Chinese twin girls. The subject came up with them about Asians never adopting white children.

Is it true? Do you know any Asians with adopted white kids? Why don't they?

My wife's aunt told me I could become a Thai citizen if she adopted me.

Does that mean I would have to start acting like a Thai?

I thought that Thai citizens were not allowed to adopt non Thai citizens?

I thought so too, but I recently met a farang that has Thai citizenship.

He says he was adopted as an adult by a Thai.

Interesting, did you see any paperwork? Has he been here a million years? Cost any money?

Most people want to adopt a baby or very young child, people who have adopted non-local chilredn that I know would have preferred to have adopted local and chose to do an overseas adoption because it was the only option available. I don't see a reason for thais wanting to adopt feeling any different.

Thai's and chinese couples would have little trouble adopting local children, as thailand has more babies available for adoption than interested couples and well in china free enterprise has taken over and there is flourishing flesh trade in these children. parents selling their babies to pay off the fines for having a second child or a first child with out a permit from the relevant authorities.

What are adoption rates like in Thailand? There seems to be some informal adoption going on, but I'm curious about how frequently Thais actually make an orphan, especially an unrelated orphan, a legal part of the family. In other East Asian cultures this practice is rather rare, because from a Confucian perspective the bloodline is the thing. Adoption doesn't really happen in Japan, except among Christians. I think the same is true in Chinese culture, although the Communists may have tried to change the practices. The lack of interest in adopting unrelated orphans, especially girls, is a big factor in the availability of young children for western couples who simply want a child to love and care for.
