Thais abroad: What do the hi-so's think of the whores?

In most towns in the UK there's at least one couple, the farang male and his younger Isarn wife. I don't mean to generalise but this is the case much of the time, and if you know Thailand, then you'll find it immedietely obvious.

In many cases these women have 'whored' their way to a better, more affluent life in the western world. They may not like everything about their adopted country (weather, food etc) but if they can support their (yawn...) family back in the village and the buffalo, they'll jump to it.

The distinctive Isarn farm look is a dead giveaway and some of these women don't even try and hide the fact in the way they dress, or rather they have no idea how to, which can also be obvious. The darker skin, (always) long black hair, nose and rubber lips are the usual signs.

The other type of Thais are the ones with cash who have been able to afford to study or work in the UK. Or even just get to the UK without being assumed to be on the game. These would be a bit more affluent, better family, and would not have had to 'whore' they way to an easy life. Many get jobs part time in the thousands of Thai eateries around, and get along, make friends and enjoy a great social life.

On the other hand, the other lower-end Thai group tend to hang together, with their small gambling get togethers, karaoke parties or drinking parties. They will almost always have some debt they gotta pay back in Thailand, and hardly ever really relax as their lives are money driven. They tend to live to work, and save every penny religiously. One I used to know carried round a notebook to take note of every penny she found in the street.

When these two classes of Thai come across eachother I always wondered what one really thought of the other, does one think the others are ''lucky bastards'' to have well off families whilst the others think the others are ''cheap whores''? I've never really heard them talk about this, although my ex-wife thought anyone else apart from herself was 'stupid'.

They do mix together at places, obviously, but in my experiences, one group never stray that far away from the whoring scene and the other group are never tempted into it. Do they ex-whores tell those that ''they could make good money on their backs''?

    pics please

actually, Pat, so what if the girls used to work in bars and met their husbands there? so bloody what?

you are becoming a judgemental prat, Pat

those women wanted a better life, I hope they have it

I have met several of the couples you refer to and they are trying to make a go of it, a happy family life etc. If you want to be judgemental, it is the husbands who are the "lower class"
    I have reported your post

Mere Thai related observations, that's all. We all have our differences of opinion.

Talking about judgments. when I fist come to Thailand I despised those people that would openly walk around with Hookers, so for the first few trips I stayed in my hotel, after 4 trips here i was up to my balls in it.
Then the next category was guys that got married to local girls.
Then guys that had children here.

Well you all know the rest, so now I don't make judgments on others.

Always makes me laugh when this subject comes up in forums, cliches its always centred around Isaan women, Fact is theres many women from central Thailand doing tricks.

Just have a trip along to Khao san road these days young Uni students, middle class doing tricks.

Bangkok has many freelancers, who have good full time jobs but need extra money.

    Cliche cliche cliche.

Generally speaking - Thai directed stigmas, stereotypes, myths, and cliches are the fodder that feeds the forum.

    Without it, there is nothing.

It's Pat's Thai-side; feels the need to bully someone and picks on a group that he feels is lower 'status' them him - all rather indicative of his genes...

You mean the type that own the brothels, and force girls into whoring? I'm sure most of us who have been here a while know very well about the morals of these folk and what they are prepared to do for money and 'status'... Of particular note is the way you use words such as 'better families'...
How do I post these pictures???

my wife knows an illiterate thai hooker, moved to the states in the 90's, married an ex marine and lived in a trailer park in texas. my wife used to translate and write letters for her that eventually ended up with her marrying this guy.
around the trailer, she grew her own herbs for cooking and sold them to local asians.

within 5 years she had built a business selling thai and south asian herbs by post to other thais and laotians in the states, and to the restaurant industry, now 20 years later she is the multi millionairess boss of a huge farming concern, she still cant read or write, the husband does all that and last year she offered to fly my wife and i over to the usa first class to visit her, with use of her spare bentley for the duration of our stay. the husband still works in the warehouse where he is at his happiest, humping boxes onto trucks.

i think the hookers of 20 years ago were different class to the scuzzy trash that exist today.

^^chitown, you really should be more careful, there are a few sensitve members who could be scared for life, imagining the full horror of he scean you have discribed.

My experiance of the thai community in the uk comes from meeting people at the handsworth wood road temple in birmingham. All i can say it that the uk thai community you meet there is as mixed as you would find here rangingfrom a lot of really nice people to a few people you would not want your daughter or son to marry. As to how many of them fitted into your two sterio types, im not sure as really walking up to people as asking someone if they are or have ever been a whore, is just not the kind of thing you do in the uk, and frankly its not something i would have any nterest i
