    What's the correct response?

The Holiday Inn hotel a couple hundred meters around the corner is what passes for the local 5 star hotel in this neighbourhood, and to tell the truth they do have an excellent bakery. (very hard to get half decent bread here in China).
Not only that but after 6pm that days bread is half price. In fact, it may have been baked last night or that afternoon, either way it's worth the risk to pop in for a half price loaf of rye or wholegrain every now and again.
So this afternoon on the way home from the beach on my bike I decided to pop in and pick up a loaf to eat with the stew I had brewing, ( that's another thread.)
Anyway, as it happens the bakery is in the back of the coffee shop which is off the lobby and the door was open so I just rode in, through the lobby, through the coffee shop and to the bakery, popped my bike at the counter at the back of the coffee shop which serves as the bakery counter and the coffee shop counter, slipped into the bakery, selected my loaf, paid, hopped on my bike and rode back out through the coffee shop, lobby, open door and on my way.
Now on my way in I noticed one guy in the coffee shop, i didn't pay much attention, but I heard some comment on my way through, as I say, I wasn't really paying attention, but something like, "you shouldn't ride that in here".
It didn't really register untill I was at the counter and dismounting, so I bought my loaf, remounted and on the way out gave him (a grey haired and grey bearded 50 something guy) a big smile and wave and a loud 'BYE" as I peddled past in the coffee shop, to which he responded a kind of harrumph, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, on the way home I was thinking there may have been a more appropriate response.
Which, if any, do you think would have been better?

Seems quite acceptable to me. You can never be accused of being rude with the insincere smile and wave, with 'wanker' understood.

Ask a simple one-line question if you want a reasonable response to a poll, not a fucking story of war and peace.

I voted what appeared to be a reasonable generic response in most situations.

How fucking old are you. And are you Ozzie?

If I'd been the old fella, I'd have been more abusive - you were taking the piss, mate, no need for that behaviour, imho.

You said there was a grey haired fella that tutted, I said if I was him...

I'm not judging you, but if I was him and I didn't know you from Adam then I would have made a comment; I reckon you would've done too!

Yep. Very rude and disrespectful of the establishment.....even for Chinese standards.

Secure your peddled vehicle outside before entering.

And the Asians wonder why we're such gauche and uncivilised.

You have GOT to be shitting me.
We (company) were entertaining a fairly large group of Chinese (Asians) clients in a nice private room of a hotel when the sound of hacking throat clearing grates across my head, I turn just in time to see a fairly high level official hoick a big loogy onto the carpet.
Don't give me that crap about how refined and civilized asians are compared to us, it's bullshit.

Yes, i'm sure the Chinese are far more civilized and refined than westerners.
They're fucking gross pigs mate, and when I hear shit like 'Yangguizi' it just makes me laugh.
They were isolated for so long they came to believe their own propoganda, and a few westerners even bought it as well.

Perhaps you shoulda dismounted, strode over to him, smashed his teeth out, caved in his head, and then continued riding through the shop, the cheek of the [at][at][at][at].

Unless your bike is a Harley, Buell or Hayabusa, that is indescribably gay.
