    Reincarnate as a waterfall

I was reading an article about an old woman who was being interviewed a few days before she died. She believed in reincarnation, and would love to come back as a male. Or as a waterfall. She thought it was funny how people delightedly stare at the waterfall.

It is easy to discharge this wish as impossible, as it is believed that one can only return to live as a new human, or as an animal or plant. However, this concept “reincarnate as a waterfall” causes many thoughts:

Is this a dead-end (no pun intended) in the chain of rebirths, or is there a reincarnation after the waterfall dries?

Is this a shortcut towards Nirvana?

Could it be that, as a waterfall, al one’s craving has disappeared? And with the disappearance of the ego-mind, there is no continuous reincarnation anymore?

Only if she makes enough tamboon. Otherwise she is coming back as a rainwater drain or a sewerage outflow.

Perhaps as a species [naturally self-important and self-absorbed] we consider such mysterious secrets of the universe to be our controlled domain.....when in reality have nothing to do with us in particular.

Perhaps all life forms choose to see themselves able to divide the consciousness into a reincarnated state. A continuing universal cycle...sort to speak.

That is a fair statement. Humans often seem to consider themselves the centre of most things, the reason for most things, and the cause of most things.

Even if they believe in an omnipotent creator, is seems that the sole purpose of that creator was to create us.

And this woman in the OP; first I felt admiration for her coz of her wish to be reborn as something abstract as a waterfall. As if she wanted to stop the universal cycle. But later, I realized that she also wanted to be admired by her spectators.

Her wish to be a waterfall reminds me of coming back as a single drop of rain from Johny Cash's song (OK I know it was actually written by Jimmy Webb), The Highwayman. Still one of my favorite songs:

I was a highwayman. Along the coach roads I did ride
With sword and pistol by my side
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade
The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five
    But I am still alive.

I was a sailor. I was born upon the tide
And with the sea I did abide.
I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico
I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow
And when the yards broke off they said that I got killed
    But I am living still.

I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide
Where steel and water did collide
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around..I'll always be around..and around and around and
    around and around

I fly a starship across the Universe divide
And when I reach the other side
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain
    But I will remain
And I'll be back again, and again and again and again and again..
