    Bed Direction

Can anyone tell me exactly what is or what is not an acceptable bed direction with these fucking idiots up here in the North?

It seems fine to have the head of the bed pointed towards the West, your feet towards the East.

Then it seems quite OK to have the head of the bed pointed to the South, feet towards the North.

My son changed his room around into what was a nice layout, but the wife took a fucking full flipper chimp out because he had turned the bed so that his head was North with his feet South, it was of course so he could actually see the TV, but that apparently takes 2nd or 3rd place as to where the head / feet direction lies.

I am getting too long in the tooth for this shit, and am trying my hardest to teach my son that this is just superstition and SHIT, however, tonight I got back and the bed is back to where she wants it and he can't see the TV!

Fucking idiots are living in the dark ages!

The wife had a feng shui 'expert' come to the house to set all that up (when I was away for a few days- she's very strategic when it comes to this sort of thing as I have zero belief in that crap)- he even chose the side of the bed I had to sleep on- fortunately for all concerned it was the side I would have chosen anyway, or there would have been some ugliness from my end.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

What gets me is that they cannot tell left from right, North from South...how do they even understand which way their bed is facing?

Look at the Thai words for "near" and "far" no wonder these people are clueless!

Googole up feng shui. All total nonsense. My Issan Wife said it you have company and they don't like the direction the bed points for them not to come - go home.

Our bed points our feet to the south. The guest room bed points ones feet to the north. The bed in the guest room use to point east to west and no one would sleep in it. Don't know what they did but the bed was untouched the next morning.
Since you wife seems to believe in feng shui better to move the TV, it might be easier.

From what I can gather (and it is a bit limited) it has something to do with the direction of a corpse is placed when it is burned! I stand to be corrected as really am not sure.

There is no way at our place you can have your head to North and feet to South, maybe it is a regional thing - these are Khmers where I live. The most positive position is head to the East, feet to the West. I looked around the usual burning grounds at the lay of the land and it seems that bodies are in fact cremated head to the South.

Then you get down to the other shit like never wash your hair on Wednesday, never cut your hair on the same day you were born, Pappaya trees grown on you homeground are bringing bad luck - those gooseberry trees the Thais have should be planted away from the home as the name is similar to that of the Devil, don't wear a yellow shirt in our village, the list goes on!

How do you try to drag your kids out of this rubbish, believe me, I have been trying for almost 11 years.

I remember a few years back in Hong Kong, we went looking for apartments on Hong Kong Island over on the far side and there was this huge apartment building that had been built with a massive (10 storey high 20 apartment wide gap in the middle of the building) Apparently it was built that way to allow a "Dragon" to be able to fly through it!!!!!!

That's what it is in Japan. Very prevalent superstition there.

When I built my first small hotel in Phuket, I made special effort to build wheelchair-accessible bathrooms. My wife (ex-wife) went nuts because the toilet (crappers) were apparently all facing in the wrong direction. Fcuk the poor sods in wheelchairs - she insisted on rotating the toilets by 90 degrees...

It got worse after we divorced and I was no longer on the scene to impose some commonsense. She decided that it was unlucky to have toilets for restaurant customers to use and turned them into store-rooms; the restaurant customers just had to have strong bladders.

Still, she was rather MAD, which is maybe a reasonable excuse - and she came from Sakhon Nakhon

    Well, at least you tried!

If you go to our local 7/11 they have a crapper for the disabled and it has a virtually see through door...yes, from the car park! the door is wide enough to get the wheelchair in, but the glass is translucent....imagine parking the car outside 7/11 and having to watch a papaplegic take a dump through semi frosted glass, who the fuck came up with that one!

Good for you, but try asking a Thai which is North, South or East or West...they will struggle to say the least!

well, that could be your fault, screwing the TV to the floor so your family can't take it

know what, Arfur, they are really winding you up and taking the piss, and you have fallen for it, hook, line and sinker

I can imagine their conversations now "what shall we get him with today? let's tell him that the spirits have said he not allowed any beer for three days as it is bad luck to drink on Sapporot days"
    I have reported your post

My wife is more practical, just wants her side of the bed closest to the toilet and nothing to trip over in between. But then she's not from Sakhon Nakhon. On the other hand she's afraid to use the downstairs toilet at night-time (ghosts down there you see)
Did you just make that up?
