    Bangkok begins to sink

The first signs that Bangkok is beginning to plummet into a huge swamp-like mess appeared at the Sathorn / Rama 4 junction an hour ago.

    Sink?

The broader region has been below or just above sea level for thousands of years.
We've just fooled ourselves with the built-up physical infrastructure that will come back to haunt.

This isn't a static issue, it is an active issue which is getting worse, about which anyone considering living in in a heavy high rise building should be very concerned.

So all the measured sinking that has been recorded about Bangkok over the last few decades have been dismissed as something else?

The real sinking of Bangkok aside. What is new with a hole in the ground?

I remember quite vivid how a Bangkok taxidriver with me as a passenger almost drove into a similarly sized hole in the ground on some major intersection. Gave the driver (and me) quite a scare as it was night, only dimly lit and completely unmarked, so probably quite new.

The driver made a careful turn around it and drove on. That must have been in 1974 or 1976.

One of my wife's homes is 200 metres from and 32 stories above that sinkhole, hence it is of concern.

I was talking about Smeg. Are you saying that you are Smeg and are multi-nicking?

Soon to be 200m and 31 stories above!

I was just reading the "Culture of Fear" thread.

From the picture it definitely looks like the authorities are looking in to it.

So I'm still wondering if one can plummet slowly.

I'm nearly fvckin dead, but just can't stop the drive to learn. Pity such a packed-to-the-rafters brain must rot.

    Any offers?
