^I'll have to remember to bring my flash drive to your place. Way OT but "Totoro" itself is rumored to be about death (i.e., Totoro is the angel of death and the two girls are actually dead at the end), although kids won't notice.

The thing I liked about "Grave of the Fireflies" is the way depiction of the cruelty and stupidity of the adult Japanese during the war as manifested in their treatment of the children in the story. Someday maybe someone will make a movie of the excellent autobiography "A Boy Called H."

I've got to say, that interpretation of Totoro never occurred to me. I'll have to re-watch it in full Bergman mode.

Some precious insight into socal's zio-mind-kontrolled psyche. Obsessed with NAZIs!, and what a surprise, also a fan of WW2 movies.

There's a kosher history education straight from Hollywood University for you. Just as socal trusts only the "mainstream media" for their fair & balanced coverage of current events,

a title-search of Internet Movie Database for titles tagged with:

    nazi (1506 titles)
    holocaust (590 titles)
    hitler (250 titles)

Meanwhile, what about the Holodomor in which ~20 million ethnic Russians in Ukraine were deliberately murdered by the kosher Stalin and his Jewish/Bolshevik regime in 1932-33,

    holodomor (1 title - Under Jakob's Ladder (2011))
    stalin (27 titles)

I haven't seen "Under Jakob's Ladder", will when I get a chance. Anyone seen it?

Beach Red by Cornel Wilde who starred, directed and produced it is excellent and a far superior film to Shaving Ryan's Privates, the latter being notable for the opening scenes but thereafter descended into cloying sentimentality and just another rerun of " the Alamo ".

Given nearly 30 years separate them it's quite amazing how little Spielberg added to the genre.

My other choice would be a minor classic but notable for its maturity, Robert Aldrich's Attack! with Jack Palance. Terrific stuff with a fine script but perhaps too sophisticated for some here.

Seen a really good one yesterday. Its a hypothetical setting about the Nazi's winning the war. It is a story about an American reporter who is covering the arrival of the US president to visit Hitler and she uncovers a bigger story then she bargained for.

    I thought it was crap.

I'd say Das Boot gets my vote so far, certainly as the best movie about WW2, and I'd put 'Enemy at the Gates' as a worthy contender too.
A Bridge too Far is the best 'classic' WW2 war movie imo. But in terms of war epics, I don't think any movie matches 'Band of Brothers', the mini-series.
I watched 'Enemy at the gates' recently, It's ok but they are playing Russians while speaking in cockney accents. This is just shit and something I dont understand, if you're gonna spend millions making a movie tell the bloody actors to put on fake Russian accents or speak in Russian and put up sub-titles.

    Innit.
