Why does anyone need 'dress sense' unless they are trying to sell you something, or get in your pants (same thing I s'pose)? Living in Thailand has made me only dress for comfort, not some french or italian pooves idea of what dress sense or fashion is- generally uncomfortable & expensive. Unless of course you are still trying to sell things, I suppose most of us still work for a living, many in areas that need some type of dress code. On the odd occasion though I like dressing up a bit, because it is so rare. Y'know, long trousers and an ironed shirt. I hardly ever bother with clodhopper shoes though.

This is true. I have the same problem so go around the house in my underware mostly.
....and for us that don't take to underwear?

Personally, I dress for me and don't take on a consciousness of someone that is foreign, hence the stereotypes and myths. I can easily attire myself with casual trousers and dress-shirts everyday...with the accompaning flip-flop or high-end sandal. I dress appropriately[dressing down] for farm chores and gardening ventures, naturally.

....I've a wardrobe of sarongs that I'll freely wear when at home.....evening and early morn.

I feel that those of you that are deeply conscious about what you seem to wear and how you might come across still have this "difference" of foreigner in you. Who gives a rat's fuck towards how one clothes themselves.

That's cool - do it all the time; even at work!

Well on my way to this too - all the Thai neigbours do so, so why shouldn't I?

Nowse, This is my normal homely look, quite attractive I think you'll agree - the relatives have made quite a few negative comments during those Skype calls, but they just wouldn't understand would they...

I'm well cool in the fashion stakes. FACT.

This has soundly become my disdain, as well.

dressing for comfort, the occasion, and to reflect what I would consider a respectable mature attire.

    within the residential perimeter, shorts.....

on the motor scooter for an afternoon ride, shorts, T shirt and a pair of flip flops.....

on the golf course, shorts and a collared sport shirt.....

when out and about, and with the risk of criticism from this tough TD crowd, shorts, walking sandals, and a tasteful Hawaiian shirt from my broad collection.

Now that we're talking sandals though , it seems to me that it would be a pretty
out of the ordinary German that would wear anything on their feet other than those Uber sandals they all seem to like.

Something like these only ten times more robust.

I think the Africa Corp invented them for parading around in the dessert.
They have them in Big C although I can't remember the name. Stuggart or stormtrooper .....something like that. Guarenteed not to come off your foot even in a nuclear explosion.

So it's working out that we should all be wearing spot shirts and stormtrooper sandals. Wondered where I was going wrong.

For business wear I mostly wear Louis Vuitton, Zegna or Armani suits. For evening wear, Versace DJ (black) or Armani DJ (white)

Don't forget that we've see your family snaps, mate!

I like the sock colour, never used to but with age I've come to like the white sport sock and sandal combination.

I have a problem with those sandals though: price. I go to, and you'll have to forgive the spelling here..., Udomegg (), where I buy some work shoes for about 1500 baht, yes I'm a big spender, then get a 500 baht voucher which I instantly use to pick up a sandal along these lines:

I find that they last about 3 months as long as you don't wear them often and certainly don't use them to walk in - to the end of the soi to get the motorbike taxi is about their limit.

Luckily I never had any dress sense in the first place, so for me the question is academic.

Well I don't wear that in Bkk, only Hong Kong.

I am a believer in socks though in Thailand with shorts. Ice white shoes, ice white socks (with 'go faster' stripes) L'homme sportif, c'est moi !
