Thread: Is there freedom of speech under British law?

Saw another poster here put this up about being detained in an airport for making a comment that a woman in a Birka did not have to show her face.

I didn't want to hijack his post, but every time I read a British news article there's something like really bizarre like this in regards to U.K. law. Is it really true you cannot say anything racially offensive there? Yes, I understand, racism not good. But it's allowed in the U.S.A. under the first amendment. Seriously, Britain does not have freedom of speech?

The Police force in UK has an association of Police Officers which is for every serving officer.
A second association was formed which was only for non white officers.
When they asked to form a third association only for whites, permission was refused because membership was racially discriminated.

Seems that the guy in question was reported to a female Muslim supervisor by this toadying "security official" and made to apologise before being let go without charge.

One of the coniquences of living togther rather than as hermits is that one persons freedom to do somthing often conflicts with someone elses freedon not to have to live with it.

Your right to pay music as load as you want vs your neignbours right to peace and quiet. Your right to discriminate aginst other people, vs other peoples right to be treated equally. Its not about left wing fashism, its simply a matter of imposing compromises in situations where you have conflicting and mutially exclusive rights.

As for this chap, ive read the story and if you take it at face value, hard with the telegraph, it would seem to me that the person accusing him of being offencive was making this assumption on the basis that he was white and non muslem, he should perhapse have filed his own complaint against his accuser.
