Some backpackers are ok, however I object to Eurotrash. They think they can make as much noise as they like even at 2 or 3 am, and wander down hallways blowing out cigarette smoke and talking loudly at each other, as if they are the only people around. Then they look astounded when you stick out your head and politely ask them to pipe down.
It's probably the alcohol, but really....I was always considerate of others late at night, even in my drinking days.

I do remember camping in Heidelberg when I was 18

we got back to the site from the bars around 2am and were a little thoughtless

tripping over tent ropes and laughing

then from a nearby tent came a very English voice "I say, would you mind being quiet?"

sorry to say, it cracked us up

Sure you can mate, even still in Thailand. Some of my tours around the north I've found great spots that you'd struggle to find on google. Other westerners way out in the sticks of the north in the national park bungalows and stuff tend to keep to themselves - some seem to find a nice good cheap spot and stay there for a month or two.

A good example is Nan.

If you want some hardcore backpacking, I'd say try Myannmar, especially the north (Shan State). Trekking from the North of Thailand across Burma into China - that would be real backpacker style.

In the late 70's and early 80's there was a tv series called The Professionals, Bodie and Doyle, CI5, maybe you recall it, anyway, in those days those darkies were called spades on television, mainly by the dark haired SAS guy who turned out to be a raving homo in the end, also in one episode there was a naked maybe 3 year old girl by a pond or lake, could have been older I suppose, but these days and ages that would now be considered child porn, I only downloaded all the series(5 of them) a couple of weeks ago, funny how things change.

No, we hated them cos they were a pretentious bunch of cheapskate wankers while we were a down to earth bunch of working lads with pocketfuls of hard earned. Where in my post did I say anything about them going to uni? I just said most hadn't worked before and were for the most part living on their parents money, so were jealous that we could smash the ring out of it while they had to watch their poxy budgets.

Also, how intelligent is the decision to go to uni for most people, aside from those doing vocational degrees? As far as I'm aware there are thousands of degree level educated people with mountains of debt unable to get a job or working in McDonalds. Very fucking clever that, eh?
