How many of us employ domestic help?

A discussion on another thread led me to wonder how many of us have help in the home on a regular basis (say, at least once or twice per week)- personally, I have three people come in regularly- a housekeeper (5 half-days per week- usually 9:00am-noon), a gardener (twice per week) and a pool cleaner (twice per week)- I also have a pest control company come in once per month to spray for bugs, but I wouldn't count that.

I would imagine that TD is a microcosm of the Thailand foreign community, so I'd like to know how many other also have at least one person (housekeeper, gardener, pool cleaner, nanny, whomever) on a regular basis.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

My housekeeper comes in one day a week and does those things I really hate to do, floors, windows, bathroom, and ironing. This same lady also lives in my house and takes care of my dogs when I am away a day or two or a few months. She is very important to me.

Yard work I do myself because I love it. If there is something heavy-duty I need help with, I'll hire one of the local farmers to give me a hand. Wouldn't call them gardeners though. If you left one of them alone in the garden with a machete, you'd find a plant massacre when you got back. Herbicide?

I don't like people in the house who aren't family, so we employ no one at the moment. I can see that changing in a year or so.

I indicated on my ballot that I had no hired domestic help, but now that I think about it I do have a pool girl that comes over once a week and a gardener and his spouse that comes when I need the grass cut. My contribution to the local economy along with the sundry of other products I purchase outside the home.

Same here. Our maid is probably the most unattractive woman (I think it is a she) in Thailand, but she is honest and works her balls off so that is good enough for me.

I am told she is training to be a masseuse in her spare time; heaven help the first poor bastard she targets because she is built like a soviet bloc olympic hammer thrower, only without all the feminine charm they used to exhibit.

If I had my way, we would employ a maid / nanny, gardener, driver and full time Thai masseuse. But then Dan would call me unethical.

    1. I do not want Mrs. Chi to be overworked playing housemaid or nanny.

    2. It's to hot to muck about doing gardening / lawn work.

    3. I am at my ropes end driving in Thailand and it would be nice to sit back and let some other poor sod develop nicks on his arteries from the stress.

    4. I hate to go out and get a 2 hour massage and about the time you get relaxed, they start slapping you on the back telling you its over. Then you have to drive home - see #3! I want to get a 2 hour massage 3 times a week and then drift off to sleep in my own bed.

Once I get settled in our new place, I am going to start the hiring process. Until then, its just maid and part time gardener for us.
