Banning Policy at Teakdoor. What do you think?

This forum has grown quite strongly since it was first opened and for some weeks now we have been discussing, amongst other things, how we might deter posters who misbehave and spoil it for others.

When we first went on line we were against banning and largely remain so

We decided to let you, the users, decide whether Teakdoor should implement
such a policy or not. Can I ask that as you consider your opinion, you keep in mind that, if implemented, we believe it might include both suspensions and banning?

We are very interested in what you lot think about this and I will open the debate here in The Captains Lounge as this forum gets the most hits but will move it to Issues at some point.

So what do you think? Should posters who continually cross the line be suspended and/or banned?

Let the forum take off first, MOd. You can then invoke the power to ban / suspend posters.

I'm a newbie to these boards in general and really like this one. Find it difficult to believe you'd have much trouble, everyone here, bar one, seems to be entering into the spirit of things.

Persoanlly I think yes,if someone is spoiling it and not playing along- boot them! Why wouldn't you?

You the boss, but there are certains things that cannot not be bannable offences....if you know what I mean?

Suspensions can help cool posters down as well.

    But go easy and communicate

It is extremely hard to ban someone from a forum as has been proven many times over on other forums, ok someone that isn't too much into computers and the net wont know how to get round bans, I posted a tutorial on how to get round bans i believe, banning i dont think is the answer, maybe just telling them politely to fok off maybe the answer

Invisibling posts is not a bad idea either (or Moderator preview).

But yeah I s'pose you're right about banning, it can actually make people into a hardcore troll that wouldn't usually be a troll....if you get what I mean.

I dont like bannings either. But what about the bloke who you ask to leave (for whatever reason) who ignores you and continues to post anyway? Surely then you have to block the ip which is, in essense, a banning.

Actually I though on Ajarn rather than suspended me if they'd just deleted my posts, after a while I'd have given up.....well I think I would have

As a newbie here I don't really know what the 'guidelines' to this forum are exactly.

Can you tell us roughly what is not acceptable?

And I'd say that's your right Captain!

It's all very well being liberal and laid back but you have to have rules, and consequences of said rules.

Being a softy will achieve nothing except control of your board being wrested from your hands!

I think most of the rules are just basically using your common sense. plus that one about posting pics of guys with great big penises, thats not on, if my galfriend see's them she will dump me.

Graphic or hard core pics should be linked rather than posting the image. Soft core is ok just about anywhere as long as it isnt solacious. The members area is fine to post whatever you like in terms of soft porn.

What does piss the man off is when posters resort to trying to out insult eachother which does happen from time to time. It is boring and new readers/members who dont have the knowledge the old hands have will just click on by.

Its all about common sense colourful. We want to attract good posters who can speak their mind and entertain. Not fokwits who use this forum to diss others.

Thanks for the clarification, still a feeling my way.

I think that before bannings are applied, we at TeakDoor. com need to understand the direction in which the forum is trying to head. Personally, i like the construction, gardening, lifestyle & fun direction.

If anyone constantly tries to misdirect us from this goal, then yea, kick da shit out of them...
