    Bureaucratic Fun

well, we went to get me a yellow house book and thought we had all the papers

unfortunately, my middle name "John" was translated differently on my daughters birth certificate and our marriage cert

so that was totally unacceptable, they had to be the same even though they were just a phonetic translation

so I had to get a certified copy of my passport (thanks Brit consul, B1500!), have that sent to Bangkok to get the original marriage certificate changed (another B1800, thanks)

did that, then needed to bring an old friend along to vouch for me being myself

    did that

then they would not accept my residence letter from the immigration office as it was then out of date (30 day max), so I went to get another (B500 more, thanks)

they made the letter in quick time, whilst we had a nice coffee with fresh milk (B30, worth it), I paid them and went home

then I noticed they had made me into an Australian!! the passport number was fine, as was my name and Thai translation, but an Australian!

do I wear a funny hat with corks, no. Do I wear khaki shorts and white socks with sandals, no. Do I speak funny and have bandy legs, no

so I went back and pointed out their error and they were very apologetic and came back with a new version in 10 minutes

this time they had made me into an American!! was I dribbling from my mouth with perfect teeth, no. Was I wearing bermuda shorts and have a twisted permanent grin, no. Did I speak funny and have smooth hairless legs, no

so they apologised and made me another in 5 minutes and asked me to check it for them

now I have to take all the docs and copies to the local government office to try for the yellow book

but first my friend has to change her document as the name of her bar had changed, so what she said cannot be verified
    I have reported your post

    yeah, you can laugh

it is lucky that I always expect things to go wrong when dealing with bureaucracy, so I don't lose my temper and shout a lot

and then I can be pleasantly suprised when things go well, like when I got my driving licence recently

I had trouble getting this book also.
All my documents where in order and we brought along the
Kamnan and head teacher of the local school to vouch for me.

The only problem was the Bitch at the Amphore office who did not
    want to process the application.
First she said cannot because you work in Bangkok so you do not
    actually stay here.
Kamnan told her that people have to work or they don’t eat.

Then she told me that I did not need this book.
It was of no use to me and kept asking why I wanted it.

She said that she would have to talk to her boss but he was out of
town and she did not know when he would be back.

Later the wife told me that the school teacher and the Kamnan went
to see her boss and few days later and complained about how they where treated.

She said we had a new appointment with the same woman.
Next time we went, the woman was all sweetness and light had the yellow
    Tabien Ban all ready.

I don’t know what the Kamnan said to her boss but it worked.

Hope you don’t get the same type of official to deal with, she was a real
    nippy sweety.

I don't go along with this yellow HB shit, the less I have to do with Thai Bureaucracy the better, after 20 yrs here I have not got a House book of any colour or Driving license but do have a marriage visa. i wouldn't even get married here because of all the religious ceremony crap.

Last yr I remember one ancient pom living around here got a Yellow and then went around telling every one it entitled him to permanent residency.
Stupid cvnt then went to Cambodia so he could build a house that he could own in his name. or so he was told.

    agreed with the latter bit

If you have the yellow book then you don't need to go to the immigration office for a residence letter, then you don't get turned into an Aussie, so that would be good

Getting the driving license is so efficient it's difficult to believe there isn't a catch. Took me about 20 minutes but 15 of that was waiting in the queue.

I don't follow you on the yellow book though. Having registered you might be a person of interest to the tax people.

Most visits to the UK embassy do leave you with a sense of having been mugged.

actually it was the consulate in Chiang Mai

There is no religious ceremony required in getting legally married in Thailand.

Foreign land ownership in Cambodia is expressly forbidden by its Constitution. Foreigners use the same long term lease and/or locally incorporated nominee companies to get around that. Cambodian based lawyers claim this is safer than doing it in Thailand as nominee companies are not expressly outlawed in Cambodia as they are in Thailand.

I've never met a real Aussie that wears white socks and sandals. Sure you're not thinking about Austrians?

Well exactly. Those high fees include sex. Surprised you didn't work that one out.
