    The Ashes Tour

Stuart Broad took three wickets before lunch as England began their Ashes tour with an encouraging bowling performance in their first warm-up match in Perth.
Putting out what could be their Test team against Western Australia, England fielded first in a three-day match.
Broad took two wickets in his first over, but WA recovered to reach 242-8 before declaring late in the day.
Alastair Cook was bowled by a delivery that bounced off his body onto the stumps as England reached 10-1.
Broad relished bowling with the new ball, nipping out Liam Davis and Michael Swart almost immediately for ducks, before Test batsman Marcus North (19) also departed to the tall Nottinghamshire seamer.
WA ground out their runs in the first session, reaching 45-3, before accelerating against the softer ball after lunch.
Adam Voges (72) and Wes Robinson (62) put on 87 in 22.5 overs as England proved less of a force in the afternoon heat.
But James Anderson got through 22 overs, showing he is fully recovered from his broken rib. He had Luke Pomersbach caught behind by Matt Prior, while Steven Finn, Graeme Swann and Paul Collingwood each picked up a wicket as well.

I'm slowly getting more into cricket, looking forward to this Ashes tour.

Not adding anything to the thread sorry lads but keep it up!

Does anyone mind if I ask what are probably some really stupid question?

    The Ashes Tour

Due to the importance of this oldest of rivalries I felt it needed its own thread.
England start with a warm up match against Western Australia in Perth.

Great thread Davey and I hope to contribute positively and regularly.

Best of luck to both sides, let the play be fair and entertaining and may the best side win the most prized trophy in World Cricket.

Lets get it on fellas on and off the field (here on TD) and (and the Down Under).

I've just been listening to a BBC Special on the ashes with Michael Vaughan, Allan Lamb and Gladstone Small.

On the phone they had Merv Hughes, Mark Waugh, Billy Bowden and many more, full of anecdotes, behind the scenes stories.

Great stuff..... hope it's a great series, why should the Brits have all the luck with the exciting Ashes series....

Mark Hughes should be concentrating on his day job surely ?
Seriously though , good to see jimmy Anderson bowling at full tilt yesterday , showing no adverse reaction to the rib injury that many Aussies were hoping would keep him subdued . He and Swann have to perform if we have any chance of victory IMHO , goes without saying that we'll need runs , but I'm less worried about our top 6 batsmen providing them , than our ability to take 20 wickets in a Test .

It was on live.....in fact it was probably a repeat as the journalists strike means they are just playing recent programs.

Skipper Andrew Strauss hit 120 not out as England beat Western Australia by six wickets in their opening warm-up game ahead of the Ashes series.
Spinner Graeme Swann was the tourists' most successful bowler, with 4-101.

Even an Aussie has to be right sometime... let's hope this is that time.

Our bowling attack is solid/strong. Our batting lineup is solid/strong. Our fielding is fine too. Not sure about the home team - haven't ollowed them since they played in England.

Aussie batsman Simon Katich is battling to be fit for the first Test after being ruled out of New South Wales's Sheffield Shield game against Victoria with a hand injury. Katich, the NSW captain, hopes to be able to bat for his club side next Saturday, but if he is not fit to play against Tasmania on 17 November, he does not expect to be selected for the first Test a week later.

Meanwhile, fellow Aussie batsman Mike Hussey's chances of playing in the first Test are in jeopardy after selector Greg Chappell said form would count more than reputation when the team is picked. But Hussey, who has a modest recent record in Test cricket, insists: "I haven't thought about it."

England captain Andrew Strauss is not yet ready to decide the make-up of the side to face South Australia in their next warm-up match in Adelaide on Thursday. He said: "We're trying to get the majority of the people we think are going to be playing in that first Test as much cricket as possible. But I wouldn't be nailing this down as our Test XI at this stage."

The Umpire Decision Review System - which will be used for the first time in an Ashes series this winter - will be used even more when it becomes less costly, according to International Cricket Council general manager of cricket David Richardson. "In 23 Tests since October 2009, 84 possible on-field umpiring errors were recorded and 57 were corrected (by UDRS), which has lifted the correct decision percentage from 92.04% to 97.68%," he said.

England may field an unchanged XI - in other words, their likely Test XI - in their second warm-up game against South Australia in Adelaide (which begins at 2330 GMT on Wednesday evening). But Ashes ticket sales to England fans are well down on 2006/07 because of the recession and the strength of the Aussie dollar.

Queensland paceman Ryan Harris has thrown his hat into the ring for Ashes selection in the Bulls' Sheffield Shield clash with Tasmania at Bellerive Oval. Harris claimed 5-72 as the Tigers were bowled out for 196 just before lunch. Queensland replied with 254-9, Ben Hilfenhaus snaring 3-82.

Australia's New South Wales players enjoyed mixed fortunes on day two of their match against Queensland. Nathan Hauritz again went wicketless, Shane Watson made 20 and Brad Haddin just two. But Michael Clarke struck an unbeaten 71.

Not that it would benefit us.
