    orge Lorenzo may have seen his lead in the Championship standings reduced by nine points as a result of Dani Pedrosa's win last time out in Indianapolis, but the 23 year-old Spanish rider is not worrying just yet. Lorenzo still enjoys a 68-point advantage over his compatriot and is keen to extend that further this weekend at Misano, where he is looking to continue his unbroken run of podium finishes this season. The Fiat Yamaha rider suffered in the extreme conditions at Indianapolis, but still managed to claim his 11th podium of the season.
    "At Indianapolis I had a lot of problems with my physical condition," explained Lorenzo during Thursday’s pre-event press conference, where Dani Pedrosa, Valentino Rossi, Nicky Hayden and Loris Capirossi joined him. "Even on the Monday I didn't feel completely fit, but I'm sure I'll be back to full fitness ready for tomorrow."
    The Championship leader's track record at Misano is a good one; he won the 250cc race in 2007 and finished second in the premier class in both 2008 and 2009.
    "I quite like this track. There is nothing particularly special about it, but everything is good. I like riding here."
    When asked about his future, and whether his agreement with Yamaha for next season was any closer to being signed Lorenzo replied: "I hope to have everything sorted for the 2011 season in the next few weeks."
    While Lorenzo will be happy with a podium finish this weekend Dani Pedrosa needs to beat the Fiat Yamaha rider once again if he is to further close the gap in the Championship. Pedrosa's victory in Indianapolis marked the first time that the Repsol Honda rider has won more than two premier class races in a single season and he arrives in Misano determined to challenge Lorenzo once again this weekend.
    "It would be great to carry on this weekend where we left off at Indianapolis, but we know this is a hard track for us, so we need to work hard from Friday onwards," declared Pedrosa. "The beginning of the season was not so good, but now we've improved little by little and the results are coming better. We just need to carry this momentum for the rest of the season now."
    Reigning World Champion Valentino Rossi has won for the past two years at Misano and, despite missing four races through injury this season, is closing fast on Casey Stoner's fourth place in the Championship standings. The 31 year-old Italian is just five points short of the Australian's tally, a situation he is keen to reverse this weekend in front of the thousands of fans who will make the annual pilgrimage to Misano from his hometown of Tavullia.
    "This is my home Grand Prix, because I live just ten kilometres away and I have spent a lot of time on this track, starting with the Italian Sport Production bikes," explained Rossi. "I've had two fantastic races here the last two years, so there are a lot of expectations from the fans ahead of this weekend. This race will be hard on the body with all the hard braking, but we must try very hard to make a good result."
    Rossi announced at Brno that he would leave Yamaha to ride for Ducati in 2011, but refused to expand on the subject when asked during the press conference for his thoughts on the move.
    "Everything is all clear for the future, but we will have a lot of time to talk about the future in the future," said the reigning World Champion.
    Misano has not been the luckiest of tracks for Nicky Hayden. In the three years that the circuit has featured on the MotoGP calendar, the Ducati rider has never finished a race here.
    "I've had some bad luck here, that's for sure," stated Hayden. "The first year I got caught up with De Puniet at turn one and went down, the following year I didn't ride because of my foot injury and last year I got taken out in another crash at turn one!"
    Hayden qualified on the front row of the grid for the first time this season at Indy, but was unable to capitalise on his starting position after losing a knee slider during the early stages of the race. The American is still looking for his first podium of the season, but admits that there is still something needed to get him on terms with the frontrunners in the Championship.
    "I'm still missing something. Qualifying on the front row at Indy was important and everyone in the team is doing a great job, but there is definitely still some room for improvement. From third down to seventh place in the Championship remains very close, so it's still possible for me to finish in the top five this season."
    With 99 Grand Prix podiums to his name already, nothing would please Loris Capirossi more than to rack up his century here at Misano in front of the Italian fans. Despite top-five finishes here twice in the past three years, it will be a tall order for the veteran rider, who has struggled to get to terms with the 2010 GSV-R so far this season.
    "It's easy to see that this season hasn't been the best for us," said Capirossi, who won the 250cc race at Misano back in 1993. "We have been working very hard all season, changing the bike to try and make things better, but with little improvement. There are still seven races to go in the Championship, so I think it's still possible to improve our position."
    When asked about his plans for 2011 and beyond, Capirossi replied, "It's no secret that I want to ride a 1000cc MotoGP bike again, but to do that I need to be here for the next two years. The situation for next year is not clear 100%, but I do have some options to stay in MotoGP, certainly for one more season at least."

    Tomizawa dies after Moto2 crash
    I watched the racing today saw the accident winced at thought not good.
    Early reports were everyone involved was okay,i had my doubts.

    Honda pays tribute to Tomizawa

    Honda Motor Co. Ltd and Honda Racing Corporation would like to express their great sadness at the passing away of Shoya Tomizawa following an accident in today’s San Marino Grand Prix.


    Tomizawa crashed on the 12th lap of the Moto2 race. The Japanese rider was immediately treated at trackside, then at the circuit medical centre and then at Riccione hospital. Numerous attempts were made to resuscitate him but at 14.20hrs he succumbed to cranial, thoracic and abdominal trauma.
    Both Honda Motor Co. Ltd and Honda Racing Corporation would like to extend their deepest condolences to Tomizawa’s family and friends.
    Nineteen-year-old Tomizawa, from Chiba, was a very popular rider in the MotoGP paddock, known for his sunny smile and determination on the racetrack. He made his Grand Prix debut at Motegi in the 125 class in 2006. In 2008 he took the runner-up spot in the 250 All-Japan Championship. He became a full-time GP rider last season, taking 17th place in the 250 World Championship. This year he moved into the new Moto2 series and made history by winning the opening round.

    The Repsol Honda rider took his first consecutive premier class victories with success in the Gran Premio Aperol di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini on Sunday. Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi completed the podium.


    Dani Pedrosa took his fourth win of the season and achieved his first back-to-back premier class victories on Sunday, finishing first at Misano ahead of Championship leader and rival Jorge Lorenzo and home favourite Valentino Rossi.
    Repsol Honda rider Pedrosa set a stunning pace from the start and was almost 1.5s clear of Lorenzo by only the third lap, as he set a lap record early on in the 28-lap contest. Before the action had even begun to unfold however there were two fallers at turn one as Loris Capirossi (Rizla Suzuki) and Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team) went down together. The American rejoined the race but later had to retire with the Italian suffering the disappointment of a DNF on his 200th premier class start.
    With Pedrosa pulling away and Lorenzo riding a relatively lonely race in second position the real battle was for the final podium spot, with Rossi attacking Casey Stoner as he sought a result that would please the home crowd. The pair swapped positions a couple of times before the Italian made a move stick, with Andrea Dovizioso also passing the Australian shortly after.
    Rossi and Dovizioso pulled away as they contended for the honour of highest placing Italian rider, and it was a battle the reigning World Champion eventually won comfortably. Pedrosa by that stage had crossed the finish line in first position and exactly 1.9s clear of Lorenzo, with Rossi just over a second behind his Fiat Yamaha team-mate.
    Following Dovizioso and Stoner were Monster Yamaha Tech 3 pair Ben Spies and Colin Edwards in sixth and seventh respectively, with Álvaro Bautista, Héctor Barberá (Páginas Amarillas Aspar) and Marco Melandri (San Carlo Honda Gresini) completing the top ten. Melandri’s team-mate Marco Simoncelli crashed but rejoined the race to finish 14th, whilst Mika Kallio (Pramac Racing) was forced to retire late on.
    Lorenzo’s lead at the top of the standings is now 63 points over Pedrosa, with Rossi moving into fourth overall at nine points behind Dovizioso.

    Misano honours Peter Lenz

    A minute’s silence was held before the 125cc race in memory of the young American rider who passed away last Sunday at Indianapolis.

    A minute-long silence was observed at the Misano circuit on Sunday morning before the 125cc race in tribute to Peter Lenz, the 13 year-old American rider who tragically passed away last weekend at Indianapolis.

    Lenz succumbed to injuries sustained in a crash during the warm up lap of the USGPRU MD250H race at the Red Bull Indianapolis GP last Sunday, and this morning at Misano he was honoured with the silence as riders and officials gathered in front of the starting grid to pay tribute.

    Amongst those who paid their respects were MotoGP rider Colin Edwards, a personal friend of Peter Lenz and who was particularly affected by the youngster’s death last weekend.

    The World Champion today (Wednesday) rode at the circuit that will host Round 13 of the season next weekend, as did Andrea Dovizioso in the morning. Premier class rookie Hiroshi Aoyama rode on Tuesday


    Valentino Rossi today joined the group of MotoGP riders who have included a test at the Motorland Aragón circuit as part of their preparations for Round 13 of the 2010 season, on the Spanish track that is new to the World Championship calendar this year. Like team-mate Jorge Lorenzo and other premier class stars such as Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa, Rossi set aside a day to get to grips with the layout of the track.
    Unable to ride on his official Fiat Yamaha M1 to comply with testing regulations, Rossi used a Yamaha R1 during the session to study the characteristics of the track which he described as “fast” with “complicated but fun turns”, outlining the entry to turn 16 as a particular highlight during several runs throughout his test.
    Earlier in the day Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso was on track as he also observed the venue which he, Rossi and the rest of the premier class will ride on in just nine days at the Gran Premio A-Style de Aragón. The 24 year-old, riding a Honda CBR1000RR, was particularly impressed by the opportunities for overtaking and expects an enjoyable race next weekend.
    On Tuesday morning Hiroshi Aoyama of the Interwetten Honda MotoGP Team rode on the track, as did Moto2 wild card for Aragón Kev Coghlan, who was again present today and has previous experience at Aragón having won there in the Spanish National Championship Moto2 race in July.

    Rossi and Burgess: The Yamaha era

    In a special interview conducted over the Indianapolis weekend the reigning World Champion and his crew chief discuss their highly successful stint with the Japanese factory, which will come to a close with the current season.


    Valentino Rossi’s departure for Ducati in 2011 brings to an end a highly successful seven-year spell with Yamaha, and in the attached motogp.com feature video the Italian and his crew chief Jeremy Burgess discuss their reign with the Japanese factory.
    The pair go into great detail about their time with Yamaha from the initial decision to make the switch from Honda, the first race, the subsequent highs and lows of winning four Championships and missing out on others, right up to the present season in which Rossi has had to deal with his injury sustained at Mugello.
    Starting at the very beginning and discussing the decision to move to Yamaha, Rossi said: “I think it was one of the most brilliant ideas of my life. In four years together with Jeremy we had already won three Championships, but we were looking for a new challenge. At that time Yamaha had a lot of problems with the M1, it did not look competitive enough to win races. So after a long think I decided to try this new challenge.”
    “Everybody had an extra motivation to try to win the first race and after a great battle the first victory arrived so I think it was the best race of my career,” he adds on his win at Welkom in his debut race on the M1.

    Valentino Rossi leads tributes to rider Shoya Tomizawa
    Seven-times MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi has led the tributes to rider Shoya Tomizawa, who died in Sunday's Moto2 race in San Marino.
    "When something so sad like this happens everything else goes to zero - the result doesn't matter," said Rossi.
    Tomizawa used bike manufacturer Suter Racing and chief executive Eskil Suter said the rider was extremely popular.
    "Shoya was more than a friend. He was like a family member. He was loved by everybody in the paddock," he said.
    "I am terribly sorry for his family and his team who suffered this tragic loss."

    Scott Redding to race following death of Shoya Tomizawa
    Scott Redding is ready to race at the Aragon Moto2 race next weekend after being involved in the accident that killed Shoya Tomizawa at San Marino.
    The 19-year-old died after coming off his bike and colliding with Alex de Angelis and Redding in the Moto2 race.
    Redding was knocked unconscious and had to have 12 stitches in his back.
    "The wound to my back is already improving and I'm determined to get back on the bike as soon as possible," he said.
    "We have a one-day test at Valencia next week, which will give me a chance to check everything is okay with my back, before heading to Aragon for the next race."
    The 17-year-old Gloucestershire rider still has no recollection of the accident and is still coming to terms with the loss of Tomizawa.
    "He was a really good guy and will definitely be missed in the paddock and on the track, " added Redding.
    "My thoughts are with his family, friends and team, who all suffered a huge loss at the weekend.
    "I don't remember anything about the crash; one minute I was on the gas as normal and the rest is just a blank.
    "I haven't seen the crash on television and I don't want to, but I do know that I was very lucky to escape serious injury."

    Hamilton pensioner Hugh Anderson was a local hero in the Dutch city of Assen in the 1960s.

    The 74-year-old member of the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame, who won four world grand prix motorcycle road racing titles in the 1960s, yesterday headed back there to ride in next weekend's Centennial Classic TT Assen 2010.

    He will be riding the Suzuki on which he took out the 1963 world 125cc title. The machine has been flown from Japan especially for the meeting.

    Based at the home of the Dutch TT during his European racing career, Anderson married an Assen nurse and was a popular figure riding his Suzuki factory team bikes.


    CLASSIC DAYS: Hugh Anderson with one of his restored bikes, a 1938 Triumph Tiger 80, before heading to Europe to don his leathers one more time.

    Despite his age, he intends to give the historic factory bike a good "blast" around the Assen track next weekend. He only gave up "racing" historic bikes last year after having benign brain tumours removed and two years ago he set his fastest-ever lap time around the Pukekohe circuit.

    "I still get a thrill from riding," said Anderson. "My judgment, observation, reactions – everything seems all right." He swims several mornings a week and generally stays active to keep himself fit.

    Anderson, who was born at Ohinewai, has been returning to Assen on a regular basis since he retired from racing in 1966, and still gets letters from throughout Europe, where motorcycle road racing has always been a huge sport, asking for autographs and photographs.

    He will be joined in Assen by several other former world champions such as Italian Giacomo Agostini, who won 15 world titles, Americans Freddie Spencer and Steve Baker, Englishman Phil Read and fellow Kiwi Graeme Crosby.

    Hundreds of other riders are also taking part and tens of thousands of spectators are expected to attend.

    Anderson, who still owns seven road bikes himself but has sold all his historic racing machines, rode at Belgium's Spa-Francorchamps circuit in June on the four-cylinder Yamaha on which Read won the 1968 125cc world championship.

    But it is Assen that is particularly special to him.

    "It was the most happy time of my life back when I was racing and going to Assen is kind of like going home. And to have a Suzuki to ride there, it's almost all as it once was," he said.

In 1965, he was crowned 125cc World Championship on his factory Suzuki.

    Rimini prosecutor Paolo Giovagnoli has opened an investigation into the death of Japanese Moto2 rider Shoya Tomizawa which could see marshalls who dealt with the dying rider facing manslaughter charges, according to the Italian press. Tomizawa died at Misano on Sunday following a horrific crash on lap 12 of the race.
    Tomizawa’s death is now being investigated with ‘unnamed people’ being looked into with a view to establishing whether the actions of of track workers or circuit authorities may have contributed to his death.
    Under Italian law there is a possibility of manslaughter charge being levelled at anyone thought to be responsible. Several members of the Williams Formula One team faced charges following the death of Ayrton Senna at Misano in 1994, before being acquitted in 1997.
