    Pedrosa claims German MotoGP victory

SACHSENRING, Germany (AFP) - Dani Pedrosa continued his recovery from a broken collarbone by winning the German Grand Prix here on Sunday ahead of compatriot Jorge Lorenzo and championship leader Casey Stoner.
Starting from third on the grid, Pedrosa came flying out of the blocks on his Honda, racing past pole-sitter Stoner and Lorenzo into the lead on the first bend.
Both Lorenzo and Stoner recovered to enjoy spells out in front, but Pedrosa has won here four times, including twice in the sport's top class, before and he used that experience to grab a decisive lead on lap 25.
The 25 year-old Spaniard held on to win in 41min 12.482sec, securing his first win since breaking his right collarbone at Le Mans two months ago.
"The pace was so high, it was a great race and a perfect result for me," he told BBC Sport afterwards.
"I didn't expect it at all. Just getting on the front row yesterday would have been good enough for me.
"I want to thank all my fans, my family and the doctors who have helped with my recovery. It is an unbelievable feeling and I hope I can continue like this."
Having missed three races as a result of the injury, Pedrosa has no chance of winning the world title.
However, Yamaha rider Lorenzo remains in with a real chance of retaining his crown after edging Stoner (Honda) into second in a thrilling final lap, crossing the line less than a tenth of a second ahead of the Australian.
Lorenzo is now just 15 points behind Stoner in the standings.

"That was one of the best races so far this season," he said.
"It was a fantastic race. I was tired early on, and was struggling to find the strength needed to keep pushing until the end.
"But then on the last corner I risked everything. I think it was a miracle that I managed to get second, I'm so proud."
His reaction was in stark contrast to that of Stoner, who failed in his bid to claim a fifth win of the season despite recording the fastest time in Saturday's qualifying session.
"I'm disappointed. We had a tough fight at the end there (with Lorenzo) and we lost out, but there's always next week," he said.
Andrea Dovizioso came in over ten seconds behind the leading trio in fourth, but his fellow Italian and seven-time world champion Valentino Rossi recovered some pride at the end of a difficult weekend.
He claimed ninth place despite starting from 16th spot on the grid.
The world championship now moves to the United States for the next race at Laguna Seca next weekend.

    Stoner wins US MotoGP

Australian MotoGP rider Casey Stoner has claimed an emphatic win aboard his Repsol Honda at Laguna Seca

Australian MotoGP rider Casey Stoner has claimed a dramatic win aboard his Repsol Honda at Laguna Seca, beating home reigning champ Jorge Lorenzo after a daring pass.

After starting third on the grid Stoner rode a considered race, reeling in Dani Pedrosa for second, before setting sights on the reigning champ.
With seven laps still remaining Stoner made a decisive move on Lorenzo, pouncing around the outside of turn one at more than 260km/h to put an emphatic stamp on the race.
The brave move seemingly broke the back of the race for Stoner, who immediately set about amassing a 5.6second lead over the Spaniard.
Stoner says the race was a welcome relief after struggling in the last few.
"At the start of the race I struggled but I was patient," he said.
"Lap by lap it got better and better, towards the end of the race I sat back to see what was going on but as soon as I needed to go I upped the pace and was able to get by them.

"It's really good to come back with a race like this and show everybody we can win."
Briton Cal Crutchlow was the first rider to crash out of the race on lap two, followed closely by controversial Italian Marco Simoncelli on lap four.
Frenchman Randy de Puniet was a non-starter after breaking his back and pelvis in a crash during qualifying.
Stoner has extended his points lead to 20 points over Lorenzo with eight races remaining.

Aussie Repsol Honda MotoGP rider Casey Stoner in doubt for Czech Grand Prix

Aussie MotoGP championship leader Casey Stoner is fighting to overcome a neck injury before the season resumes after a three-week break.

Stoner won Sunday's US Grand Prix but rode with an injury he sustained during a recent crash in Holland.
Doctors have told the 2007 world champion he might not fully recover until the Australian race at Phillip Island in October.
"I can't do strength training because of my neck, just cycling," Stoner said.
"In the Assen crash I came down hard with all the G forces through my shoulder and it has trapped a muscle between my vertebrae and discs - the muscle is damaged pretty badly.
"I've had a scan and the doctors said it will be two-and-a-half months before my neck is right, it will take a long time to heal," he said.
"At Laguna Seca I could barely breathe after qualifying because my neck and also muscles on my ribs tightened up."
The next race on the MotoGP calendar is at Brno in the Czech Republic on August 14.

Repsol Honda trio revitalised for Czech Republic

After a two-week interlude in which time they enjoyed some rest and recuperation before resuming their training programmes, Repsol Honda riders Casey Stoner, Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa are all fully prepared to make an anticipated return to action at Brno this weekend.
The team celebrated a double podium in the previous round at Laguna Seca where Stoner extended his lead at the top of the Championship to 20 points with victory, whilst Pedrosa took third spot and Dovizioso finished fifth.
After this weekend's race, the Repsol Honda Team will make use of a testing day at the Brno circuit, using the opportunity to further develop the 1000cc 2012 machine. Contracted riders Pedrosa and Stoner will test the bike in the one day test on Monday August 15th.

    Stoner conquers the Czech Republic

Casey Stoner captured his sixth win of the season in front of 155,400 fans at Brno for Sunday’s race, stretching his Championship lead to 32 points over Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing).
Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) got the hole shot off from his first pole position of the season, with Lorenzo taking the lead from him on the second lap. Stoner then took second from the Yamaha rider, just as Pedrosa crashed out of the front of the field, handing the Australian the lead.
While Stoner lengthened the gap at the head of the pack, Lorenzo came under pressure from Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda), the Italian passing the Spaniard to take and hold second position. Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) then caught and passed Lorenzo, moving into the third podium spot and keeping it until the finish line, the first podium of his MotoGP class career.
Ben Spies (Yamaha Factory Racing) slowly moved in on Lorenzo, but the American was unable to get close enough to make a move for fourth position, finishing the race behind his team mate in fifth.
Valentino Rossi was the first Ducati Team rider across the line, finishing sixth off his best qualifying result of the season. The Italian’s team mate Nicky Hayden followed in seventh, with Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech 3), Hiroshi Aoyama (San Carlo Honda Gresini), Héctor Barberá (Mapfre Aspar) rounding out the top ten.
Cal Crutchlow crashed out in turn one, resulting in the fourth DNF of the season for the British rookie. Karel Abraham (Cardion AB Motoracing) also had a fall; he rejoined the race but later retired with a mechanical failure. The two were joined in the pits in retirement by Álvaro Bautista (Rizla Suzuki), who low sided trying to make a move on Rossi for sixth position

The above post reminds me just how much the motorsport world owes Dietrich Mateschitz.
Without RB and Dietrich we as fans would be much poorer.
Admittedly he's in it for the publicity it brings to his company, but without RB and Dietrich we as fans would be much poorer.

Stoner takes seventh Grand Prix win at Indianapolis

Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) took the early race lead, until team mate Casey Stoner overtook the Spaniard on lap seven and stretched his lead in front of the pack to remain unchallenged for the remainder of the race. Stoner extends his Championship lead to 44 points ahead of reigning World Champion Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing) with this win, his first ever podium at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
A bad start for Ben Spies (Yamaha Factory Racing) from second on the grid found the Texan down in ninth position, after his poor start was made worse when he and Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda) touched heading into turn one, pushing Spies wide. The 25 year old methodically made his way back through the field and into third position by lap sixteen. The pace set by Spies would have been quick enough to fight for second position, though his poor start kept him from catching Pedrosa, who crossed the line second in front of the American.
Lorenzo had seen second position in the early laps, but was overtaken by Stoner and then eventually Spies to finish in fourth position. Dovizioso tussled with Nicky Hayden early in the race for fifth, until the American from the Ducati Team fell back with tire problems, leaving the Italian to chase Lorenzo.
Álvaro Bautista (Rizla Suzuki) finished a lonely sixth after starting tenth on the grid. The Spaniard crossed the line 9 seconds in front of American Colin Edwards on his Monster Yamaha Tech 3 machine. Randy de Puniet (Pramac Racing) crossed the line in eighth, giving the French rider his best finish of the season.
Ninth spot went to Hiroshi Aoyama (San Carlo Honda Gresini), who crossed the line a second and a half ahead of Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team). Rossi’s tenth place was of note in that on lap eight the Italian fell back into 17th position with apparent tire troubles. It appeared he would be entering the pits, but kept circulating and made his way back up to finish tenth in front of rookie Cal Crutchlow (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) .
Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) had seen as high as third position in the race, until tire trouble for the Italian saw him slowly dropping back, finally finishing in twelfth. Toni Elías (LCR Honda) and Hayden completed the race finishers, with Elias ahead of the American. Hayden had pitted in earlier with troubles and rejoined the session to salvage some points, finishing 14th.
A disappointing end was had for Héctor Barberá (Mapfre Aspar), who crashed out of eighth place in the final corner.
