    World Cup Final

I have been waiting for someone more entusiatic than me to start the final WC tread.

I didn't catch me as a real exiting game: lots of freekicks, yellows and poor passing.
I found myself hoping the Dutch wouldn't win it as they played like shit.

    And they didn't

The Dutch made it boring by playing a very defensive counter attacking style of play which the Germans did in the semi final.

The best team won at the end of the day.

Pele sticking his snout in suggesting an African country should host the competition and back them what a shambles it was.

FIFA should stop experimenting at World Cup Finals, New balls should be tried and tested and played with throughout the previous domestic season in all leagues.

Next World Cup in Brazil so surely that will be an amazing spectacle as the World Cup goes to it's rightful home

I thought the players ruined the game with their poor attitude towards each other and the referee.

The fear of missing the final kept player behaviour in check in both Semi's which I thought were excellent games.

The yellow cards went out of control but in fairness to the referee, they were almost all justified. The Spanish in particular were in the referees face with every foul waving their arms for a card to be produced. They should follow rugby and not allow the players to talk to the referee.

The Dutch never really got into gear, more intent is stopping Spain playing, Robben should have scored when he had the chance......

I believe the referee ruined the game by letting the Oranges get away with too much. He should have sent off at least three of them in the first half.

Or maybe they would have stopped their cruel attacks after one red?

That Iniesta chap must be rated right up there with Messi as the 'best'. Late winner to win the world cup, that last minute winner at Stamford bridge to get Barcelona through to the champions league final and victory the season before last. Class act!

Also, Forlan, why did Man U ever sell him? Think Fergie didn't like his looks/locks as he did nothing wrong on the pitch. Been a class act ever since for Villa Real and now the golden boot, to boot!

Mate he was shit for United and he got plenty of chances. Always liked his attitude though and pleased that he finally came good on the main stage. He's been pretty good in fact since he left Old Trafford which begs the question if he was coached correctly.

Can't disagree with any of that.

We'll sadly never know the answer to that. Webb could have sent off at least 2 possibly 3 Dutch players off by half time. Instead he took the easy way out and hoped yellows would do the trick, they didn't.

I believe he didn't want to be seen as the ref that sent off so many thus giving showcase final a scandal tag. Cowardly if ask me.

The Dutch didn't deserve to win. I agree with Bobcock about Spanish getting in Webb's face, but for the Dutch to play that dirty and still win would have been a travesty. The Spain-Germany game still counts as the final in my mind, although it is disappointing because the Dutch had the talent to play clean and possibly win (does Robben not have a right foot at all?), but some (not all) of them are such assholes they just couldn't seem to help themselves:
    Randhino at Balloon Juice:
"I used to love Dutch football. What they played throughout much of the cup was nasty. They committed 126 fouls while no other team committed as many as 100 (Uruguay was second with 99 with an equal number of matches). The other teams that played as many as 7 games finished with 75 for Germany and 81 for Spain. The Netherlands also received 22 yellow cards with Germany receiving 11, Uruguay 9 and Spain 8. Apparently the Dutch game is not fair play."
    Balloon Juice

Thank the football gods they didn't win. 126 must be some kind of record.

And Iniesta made a tunnel on him.

I never liked 'latin' football for all their diving and brutality, but last night it certainly was the other way around.

maybe a poor world cup but germany -uruquay was a great game and then spain -holland another great game with spain deserved winners . class goal from iniesta.
one of the best world cup finals i've seen even with lack of goals. spain were just amazing with their slick passing skills .
uruquay a tiny country, kept in it by forlan who scored memorable goals but not sure he deserved the boot but,wot the fok.

I wouldn't have called last nights game a great one. It was finished off with a class finish yes but there was only one team out there that wanted to play the game.

I'd say we didn't see the type of games that we've seen in the past due to the so called minnows getting better. Most sides are now tactically better off than in previous tournaments. That then doesn't give the so called starlets much of a chance to shine.

World Cup: Defeat for Van Diver, Van Whiner and Van Thug

    Pretty good:
World Cup: Defeat for Van Diver, Van Whiner and Van Thug
    By Ken Silverstein

Spain was clearly the best team in the World Cup and it deserved yesterday’s 1-0 victory over Holland. It controlled the ball and the tempo for most of the match, dominated overtime, and generally played far prettier soccer.

The only thing the Dutch were superior at yesterday — and what they excelled at throughout the entire Cup — was fouling, diving and crying to the referee. The worst, of course, was Arjen Robben — seen here in the midst of his Cry-Baby routine during an earlier match. (This, incidentally, was a rare instance of Robben whining in an upright position; he was so busy trying to draw fake fouls that he was rarely on his feet for more than a minute at a time.)

Some commentators have joked that Robben deserved an Oscar for Best Acting, but that suggests he was convincing in his non-stop flopping. Great acting it was not. At least twice I saw Robben actually grimace and pretend to be in great pain well before he even hit the ground. (At which point he’d curl into the fetal position and clutch at his leg in a manner suggesting that only an immediate amputation could save his life.)

Then there was the constant fouling by the Dutch, most egregiously the first half chest kick of Xabi Alonso by Nigel de Jong. That was the worst foul of the entire Cup and deserved a red card.

So congratulations to Spain, and to Holland–grow up before 2014.

My prediction for the next Cup: Having already fired Dunga, Brazil returns to playing attack-oriented football and wins the Cup on its home turf, defeating Spain 3-1 in the final.

You read it here first. If it happens, I’ll remind everyone of this post. And if it doesn’t, no one will remember I wrote it. That’s the beauty of blogging.

I thought it was a good game being the final as well which has its added pressure.

Spain deserved the win without doubt, had better ball skill and on most ocassions had the Dutch guessing which way they were going.

I'm guessing Webb had orders from FIFA not to start chucking people out in the first half. De Jong had no business being on the field after his potentially fatal assault on Alonso.

Things happen in games, so fast is the ball movement and attempts at trying to stop the opposition.

Moreover the theatrical display by most players ruined the game and even the high shot on Alonso can happen unintentionally and to be fair it didn't injure him.

Most of these fairies couldn't play any other sport as it is too rough.

Just to be clear, that's Ken Silverstein talking, not me, but by all means go bust his balls in four if he's wrong!
