I've watched it now.
He spent more time running away than I imagined.
I could have won like that.
Maybe if you had a shotgun
Haye won despite breaking his hand in the second round.
The Guardian
After winning the WBA world heavyweight championship from Nikolai Valuev on a majority decision last night, British boxer David Haye revealed that he had done so with a suspected broken hand.
"I damaged my hand in I think it was the second round or third round," Haye said, "so I couldn't throw too many right hands. So I tried to win it extensively with my left hand. My hand's very tender, very sore, so that's why I only used it irregular."
Running around the ring (backwards) like a headless chicken & throwing the odd sly punch, relying on the judges to give you some points, is a poor way to win a fight.
Champion my arse.
Come on Don be happy for the man, he is a champion you know
I'm happy for the guy, but it's almost like he cheated.
A great display of intelligent boxing and the only way to beat the beast.
I can see why some didn't like the fight, but there was no other way to fight it,
the guy is SEVEN stone heavier than Haye, the most weight difference ever given away in any professional fight ever.
It was a truly amazing feat on the part of Haye
More money in keeping the titles separate so that's the way it'll stay I'd imagine.
But you are right, they should remain together so as to have an undisputed world champion
Saw only the last round.
But what I saw is an intelligent boxer with the right tactics and skill to win.
The loser Valuyew may look like a Neanderthal and is probably not the brightest. But you got to give a thumbs up to a fighter who gives his opponent a congratulatory slap a second after the fight ended. And not every boxer can give a correct assessment of a lost fight while still in the ring. The man deserves some respect too.
"don't attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by incompetence"
Haye's win was hardly 'superb'. He scooted and ran the whole time. Ok so if his hand was hurt it explains his low punch output (and Haye is anything but gunshy judging by ALL his previous fights.
Well, we learned he can discipline himself - something that was in question before. And he won legit.
But it was hardly anything special.
As the the comments on Valuev - he is not really much of a beast. Mediocre fighters have gone the distance with him. He is big that's all. John Ruiz fought him head on, and would have one at least one of the two fights, if they wern't in Germany. Running is not the only way to beat Valuev. He is fairly one-dimensional, and not a huge hitter, such as say Sam Peter.
