Probably due to the fact the the rest of the Liverpool team were pretty good, but the Scottish team were crap.
We are now but we were decent in the eighties. We had players like Hansen,Souness,Strachan,Andy Gray,Charlie Nicholas,Graham Sharp all playing for the top clubs in England.
What decent team was that? A team that couldn't make even the 2nd round of a world cup? Names mentioned were all very decent except Sharp who was half decent at best, but a team it didn't make.
Dalgliesh was wonderful. Loved the unbridled joy and ear to ear smile he wore when he scored, no modern day bullshitty gimmicks. But he succeeded in a superb Liverpool team that ruled Europe. In a Scotland shirt it wasn't so easy.
