ANZAC footy game at HELLFIRE pass, Kanchanaburi. Jakarta Bintangs v Thailand Tigers

    Tomorrow, 2pm, Kanchanaburi.

This game has been held annually for the last 4 or 5 years now. A historic site, Gods game, and, of course, plenty of Aussies and beers afterwards.

If you are around, an event not to be missed!

    Who we talking about here?
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.

    Cousin's own Anzac tribute

    Tony Sheahan
    April 27, 2008 12:00am

FALLEN footballer Ben Cousins has made one of the most emotional journeys of his tumultuous life - to pay tribute to his great-uncle.
Cousins and his father, Bryan, joined several hundred Australians at Thailand's Hellfire Pass - a notoriously brutal stretch of World War II's infamous Death Railway - at dawn on Anzac Day.
The crowd gathered silently to remember more than 13,000 prisoners of war, including Cousins' great-uncle Sgt James Thatcher, who died while building the 415km railway under the guns of their Japanese captors.
Cousins - fighting his own personal battle to overcome drug addiction - said after the ceremony: "It was a very moving service.
"We're up here for dad's uncle, Jim Thatcher. He died on the Death Railway."
A dairy farmer, Sgt Thatcher was part of the 2/3 Machine Gun Battalion.
Cousins also had a video camera with him to film parts of his latest excursion, with plans to include it in a soon-to-be-aired tell-all documentary.[/quote]

I'm surprised you feel that way Memers...being a family man and all...Personally I'm less tolerant towards these highly paid sportsmen who fall foul of drugs...role models and all that...

Good post Klongy, I see your point.

I guess I am a very forgiving person and please don't get me wrong what he has done has really disappointed me.

The thing is he has never ever been caught using drugs by the AFL. He has by his own admission admitted to the world that he has a problem and wants to fix it and play AFL again. I admire him for this and wish him all the best.

On a few occasions I have had the opportunity to spend some time with him both in a small crowd situation and one on one. He has always come across as a gentleman with his head screwed on tight which is why his admission of rug use was really disappointing. I wish him all the best.

Twas a good game KW...though the fellas looked knackered after halftime. Good to catch up with you, even if only briefly.

The Collingwood vs Essendon match was a great game in front of 90,000. Sadly about 40,000 of 'em were heading for the exits at 3 quarter time.....I think they were wearing red & black. Mind you they stayed for longer than their team...who seemed to vanish after quarter time.
