^ besides winning i do wonder if the Indians set the pitches up to ensure they got the required results to get them to the Test WC.

At the moment you feel every ball could take a wicket.

Au contraire, sybil, even I didn't expect them to be so fucking blatant about it.

^Would think there'd have to be all sorts of records equalled or broken in this Test.

As good as the present Aussie fast bowling line up is the Indians have just as potent a spin attack.

Unplayable and always seem to be on the money length and line wise.

^The ball was doing all sorts of random crazy shit once it pitched, including not turning at all occasionally which was often resulting in another wicket being taken too! Truly a batsman's nightmare. But India showed how to bat on a wicket like that in their 2nd innings, don't back up trying to defend but come forward and hit it on the full or half-volley before its got a chance to pitch and do who knows what. Easy to do when you only need 49 to win, but they made it look simple enough scoring at better than a run a ball without loss getting them.

It'll be interesting to see what sort of a pitch they prepare for the next Test but I'd assume we'll be seeing something similar, or only marginally tamer. Good, it's 10 times more enjoyable to watch than when both teams get 500+ in their first innings.

    ^ Too true.

I have watched numerous tests where the pitches offered nothing to the bowlers with most of those tests turning into boring run feast draws.

I have also watched tests where the pitches were green tops and dangerous for the batsman. Perth was normally prepared this way until they put a stop to it. The Gabba formally was also a fast wicket particularly when Thomo was bowling on it.......................Those were the good old days.....

    Over only two days?

Easy enough to say when a weekend watching your own country's team hasn't just disappeared.

It's a crap way to end what was shaping up to be a great series based on the games in Chennai.

Maybe they should have spent less money on the facilities and more on employing a head groundsman who could prepare a test match quality wicket.

Ok the 2 day thing was a surprise (has that ever even happened before?) but my point is I'd rather watch a game where you time moving away from the TV with a break in play, rather than go out for lunch mid-session when a team is 4-477 as you leave home and 4-493 when you get home an hour later.

The last time a test has ended within 2 days is India vs Afghanistan 2018
The last time it happened to England, with England winning was England vs West Indies 2000 (Headingley)
The last time it happened to England, with England losing was England vs Australia 1921 (Trent Bridge 3-day match)

I would never have believed there's been 27 Tests that lasted under 2 days (without freak weather or a war breaking out nearby sort of thing) as this was the first one I've ever seen or heard of. Anyways, that's a good one to now know for quiz nights
