555 the Toss and England win it and will bat, it was a socially distanced toss and then Ben Stokes walks up to Jason Holder and shakes his hand...doh

17 overs and England batting finished 35/1.

The Windies wanted to win it in four days, the way it's going they'll be lucky if they get that.

Have to say, well done the Windies. They have a great bowling unit and seem to have found a way to bat. They have certainly come out of lockdown better than Eng. Cricket is always better for a strong Windies side. This could get ugly. Lead 55. I reckon Eng are in for some pace tomorrow in their second innings.

The umpiring has been a joke.

    So many overturned decisions.

That Richard Kettleborough is either clinically blind or is an out and out cheat.

I think we should be polite and say they haven't got their eyes in. Its unusual, they are English reffiing an English test.

Calm down Loy, you need to listen to Test Match Special on the Beeb, your world will become a sea of calm and relaxation. Immediately i switch off at 7pm i am going to get an overwhelming urge to find punctuation errors in the TD posts.

Earlier on TMS commentary, Aggers disclosed his love of playing banjos. Someone wrote in about high and low G strings, Tuffers suggested he'd struggle to get his teeth on a high G String and Aggers completely missed the joke and waffled about still learning the instrument...there was much tittering in the background....he still didn't get it. I love TMS, its summer.

TMS talking about John "the Dentist" Maynard - this is why we need the Windies back on form - for Snubs if you think cricket is for poofs than face a fast bowler with a hard cherry and laugh at them.

Atherton went on to explain Maynard's nickname: "No, he was not a dentist in his spare time, but he did like knocking out batsmen's teeth."[5] Maynard attributed the origins of the name to an incident when playing for Nevis against Antigua:

There was this bloke playing for Antigua called Zorah Barthley,[6] who was the West Indies youth team captain... First thing in the morning he nicks one but the umps didn't send him on his way, and that wound me up a bit. And so the next ball was four yards quicker than anything I've ever bowled. He shaped to hook, and his teeth went flying all over the place, and it was a funny old sight. But he was the man who made the Dentist really. I couldn't have done it without him.[1]

Maynard himself went on the record about his attitude:

"If you can't get them out, you gotta hurt them till they get out," he once said. "I think I've pretty much broken every part of the body so far, from the teeth to the jaw, to the nose, to the ribs, to the arms and the toes. I never worry about hurting them at the time."[1]

Looks like tooty is doing ball by ball.

Enland are 114 behind after the first innings.

    Let's hope it rains.

Wondering why all the Poms went quiet

    Cricket scores around the world-screenshot_2020-07-13-cricket-england-west

    ---

    UPDATE ...

England lost a gripping first Test to West Indies, who were helped to a memorable four-wicket victory by Jermaine Blackwood's magnificent 95.

Chasing 200 on the final day in Southampton, the tourists were reduced to 27-3 and lost opener John Campbell retired hurt, mainly to a fired-up Jofra Archer.

But the nerveless Blackwood calmly combined with Roston Chase for a stand of 63, then added 68 with Shane Dowrich.
England had chances to dismiss Blackwood.

Ben Stokes failed to get a hand on a tough opportunity at slip off Dom Bess, gully Rory Burns and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler both dropped catches off Stokes, and Zak Crawley could not gather the ball in the covers when Blackwood and Chase got in a mix-up running a single.

With the exception of tooty I don't think anyone was noisy.

England were on the back foot from the moment Sibley quacked on day one.

    HB ... just friendly banter.

India potentially to tour Australia for a Test Match Series, but refusing, ATM, to self quarantine for 2 weeks.

Well to their credit, England have fought back well to get to 207/3.

But Sibley and Stokes have had to battle out there. Good effort by both.

Jofra Archer coronavirus breach could have cost England cricket 'tens of millions of pounds'

    Cricket scores around the world-12465606-16x9-xlarge-jpg

Jofra Archer's violation of biosecurity arrangements could have been a "disaster" for English cricket and ruined the summer.

    Key points:
    • Jofra Archer could have cost the England Cricket Board "millions of pounds" when he exited the bio-secure bubble, said Ashley Giles
    • Archer visited his home instead of driving straight from Southampton to Manchester
    • England ended day one of the second Test at 3-207, trailing the West Indies 1-0 in the three-match series

Archer visited his home in Brighton on the way from Southampton, the venue of the first Test against West Indies, to Manchester, venue of the second, in a breach of the England cricket team's strict biosecurity protocols.
