    Steve Smith is different.

Below is an excellent article which attempts to identify those elements of his technique.

I can't reproduce it here as it's not in a newspaper style.

Lot's of graphics, multiple camera angles being viewable simultaneously.

Cracking the code to Steve Smith’s batting success

Australia set to bludgeon Pakistan in the first test.

Warner 76 - Burns 62 not out = 148/0 in response to Pakistan all out for 240.

Warner 99, Burns 88 not out.

    These 2 bat well together.

Hope the selectors give them a good enough run to prove that.

England put 353 on the board despite Root going for a paltry 2 and now have the sheepshaggers at 144/4 at close of play on Day 2.

Aus v Pak is turning into a typical test match in Australia. High scoring on a flat pitch.

The thing that made the recent ashes in Eng interesting was the pitch was doing a lot and wickets were falling.

The drop in pitches now used in Aus are not good for the game.

    Aus 344 for 1 (96.4 0vers)

Warner has scored just 3 runs all morning and just got out.

Today it was like watching a different batsman when compared to yesterday.

And Stokes dropped a sitter, with Root making some odd captaincy decisions..

No slip fielders to a new no. 8 batsman!

England rather reverting to type...too cautious.

And in Australia Smith was the lowest scoring batsmen of his side.

Pakistan on tour though. Long time since they've worried anyone.

Seems Warner can still hit the ball when Stuart Broad's not around, anyway.

Agreed. The Gabba is half empty as well, which surprises no one but Cricket Australia.

The score didn't surprise me, so much as Smith going out for single digits to them!

Couple of years back I went to the Gabba to watch Day 2 or 3 of the Ashes ... packed to the rafters and a brilliant spectacle.

It the drawing power of the opposition which influences the crowd size.
Pakistan as a magnet for Australian Fans, obviously not so.

I wonder, a week out how many day 4 and 5 tickets had been sold ... if any.

To be fair, even England tickets on day 4 or 5 remain mostly unsold because a) test matches can finish early, or be discounted if there are only a few wickets left and look like a half day only.

But day 1 should be packed, this time less than half full!

So England need 245 to win with all wickets standing.

Good to see the Kiwis going for the win.

You misunderstand the state of this game, 'Arry.

All Blacks, 615-9 first innings. I doubt England will win this game...

Australia win by an innings and 5 runs.

A good fight back by Pakistan against what must be the best bowling side in the world led by Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood and Lyons.

You are right Boo, somehow my day trip to Kuwait threw me out of whack.

And England lost three wickets at the end of the day.

Time for some of that Backs to the Wall British Bulldog Fighting Spirit.
