From 36 all out in their second innings of the first test, with their best player and captain heading home...to winning the series.

    Well done India!

the bowlers couldn't do the job. the batsmen didnt set a high enough second target. But in both innings our attack was tired and mundane.

They didn't seem to be able to move up a gear in the clinch like England often do.

Lyon's limitations in particular were painfully clear.

Australia's first loss in a test at the Gabba in 30 years, apparently.

    32 years.

But fair play to the young Indian batsmen, the commentators were saying the difference was that they were playing without fear of consequences - e.i. just go for it!

I am actually pleased the Indians won.

In my opinion the Aussie selectors fvcked up once again and need to be sacked.

A new captain is needed including a decent opening duo as clearly the Aussie top order batting let the team down.

Lyon should also retire as he has had enough of a chance to prove he has what is needed.

    Results prove he has not!

Selectors: Gilchrist, Warne and Mark Waugh.

    Captain> Steve Smith

Openers: Get rid of Warner or drop him down the order bring in Chris Lynn and Marcus Stoinis

Spinners: Adam Zampa and maybe Glenn Maxwell as an allrounder.

What would your suggestions be Willy?

Well I guess that answers the question of why Nathan Lyon is still getting a game.

Yes, and Paine was copping criticism for batting too long!

The vast majority of people backed the Aussie bowlers to get that job done.

But he's so obviously a different person now, compared to when he was public enemy #1.

    *cough*

They should make Pat Cummins captain imo. Not ideal going with a bowler, but he's the best available.

That saffer is obviously a complete cock.

Anyway, England now have something like 9 tests, away and home, against India.

    That should be interesting.

Not until they've finished the two-match series against SL starting on Friday.

Good to see Jimmy back in the fray. The cucumber sandwiches had an adverse effect on the Lankans.

    76/3.

Sri Lanka have improved since the last test, although Jimmy's 6/40 suggests the other bowlers are not pulling their weight.

Well, Jimmy's performance has been exceptional.

And yeah, England's spin attack is kind of limited.

Agreed, Jimmy seems to get better with age.

Re the spinners, they are struggling, but its how you learn and it seems to take time to develop as a spinner. They need to develop some variety with darting in a few fast ones.

Been listening to it on TMS, early starts this weekend.

Good grief, one review burned and both openers too inside 10 overs - never dull being an England cricket fan.

So it looks like Root will have to bat big again if England are going to win here.

Tomorrow will be the day it's likely won or lost, because on days four and five the totals are almost certain to be low.

That's all discounting rain, of course, which is forecast to be intermittent from tomorrow afternoon until Friday.

Look set pretty fair. England need to be within 50 runs in the 1st innings to have a chance and that could be a tall order unless Root stays in.

It looks like the highest successful run chase at Galle is 268. Easy for Sri Lanka to put that on tomorrow unless rain or a deteriorating wicket stops them.

If the latter, it's not going to make it easy for England.

Should be a good finish either way.
