A good win in the final test all down to superior bowling from England, but it wasn't the same without Wally & William.

Down to Strauss' captaincy in the end. Ponting took more than a smack in the gob. Although there were a few decent individual Englnd performances, most of them just did the job they were paid for.
Ponting lost it and Strauss won it.
    Well done England
What time does the pissed up open top bus tour start?

Great final test and a deserved victory in the end.

Another excellent Ashes series and hats off to both sides for playing it in the right spirit and confirming it as still one of the greatest sporting events on the planet.

How good does that last wicket stand by Monty and Anderson in the first test look now???

An excellant series, done enough to rekindle the interest in cricket with some youngsters, I hope. Got the one dayers to come next. This thread shows that the Brits and the Aussies can take the piss out of each other with no animosity.

    Well done to all contributors.

Well done, in the end on more than one occaision england showed that desperation? Drive? Whereas the aussies were content to let things slide, down to the 110percenters

I sat and watched the last day with an unknown Aussie. He was still hoping, then wishing, then, even in abject misery he turned to me and said, "Well played mate, fair result".

So i bought him another beer and changed the subject.

Remarkable to win a series with such a poor middle order, the area funnily enough where Australia are always so strong.

Nice to have it done and dusted with a victory, but now we gotta start thinking about going there in 2011.....

Is still feel that if Lee had been fit (I don't rate Lee that highly, but on his day he's the best bowler in either side) and Johnson had performed to the standard he is capable of that the result would have been different.......

Purely and simply the Aussies failed to handle pitched up straight bowling and hence the number of LBW decisions against them.

Lee, whilst being a good bowler who could of made a difference should never have been on tour because he was crook before he even left Australia. Selectors issue.

The Aussies tried to blast the English batsman out with short pitched aggressive bowling and failed. They lost their heads and with that the first test.

The Poms changed their bowling strategy after the first test and one the day.

The net result............Good for cricket and eventually good for Australian cricket as well.

The great success story...........I would have to say Broad who when he gets older with more cunning bowling experience will become a world class allrounder if he is not one already. Good for England and with the retirement of Freddy.

Retirement from test cricket Yes or No? Bollocks or not?

England have found a good allrounder replacement and I thought his batting mostly was superb.

    Cricket Australia

Scroll down and on the lower left are the stats...have a squize...

This is the bit I don't understand...the stats show the Aussies clearly the better team...
