Root unlucky to get a ton. Out for the unlucky 87.
Shouldn't be too long now.
Australia 570/9d & 132/3d
England 172 & 176/5 (69.3 ov)
England require another 355 runs with 5 wickets remaining

I'd like them to get through to lunch tomorrow... Being bowled out tonight would be pretty horrible. Decent bowling, but the pitch is ok, if a batsman is willing to knuckle down then there are runs here...
Which is why the deserve everything they are getting.
Their shot selection has been woeful considering the situation in both innings.
The top of the order has put unnecessary pressure on the middle order, which has failed to cope with the pressure.
Is it still going? I thought it finished yesterday. :)
Ozzies must be kicking themselves. They could have wrapped it up on day 3 by enforcing the follow on when England were in total disarray.
The touring side have regrouped somewhat having now broken the 200 mark for the first occasion in this series and more importantly keeping Johnson quiet in this innings.
Only one outcome still but the opportunity of at least one free day's golf having passed them by must be heartbreaking. Clarke should do the decent thing and resign. :mid:
I think you just described the old English cricket teams of the eighties and nineties Bob.Quote:

But he had a much better attack and as we've seen, there is nothing scary in the pitch.
LT we won the Ashes more times in the eighties than Australia did...... Not sure why you think that was such a bad team..... Usual Australian selective memory I assume....
In fact since 1977 England have won 9 Ashes series to Australia's 10. Hardly the the domination that you are perceive it to be when you say things are returning to the rightful result......
'5-0? Yeah, for Australia' says Botham
- by Dave Middleton
England cricketer turned pundit has changed his tune on his pre-series prediction of a five-nil whitewash to the tourists.Botham predicted England would win 10-nil across both Ashes series in 2013 but with Australia on the cusp of taking a two-nil advantage in Adelaide, his prediction has proved starkly inaccurate."If England don't turn it around, they've lost," Botham said on Sunday.
"It's as simple as that. It's the last-chance saloon and sometimes that brings the best out of players."England will be well aware of it. They don't want to lose, they don't want to get hammered here."The former England allrounder said he hoped the tourists could reverse their fortunes ahead of the third Commonwealth Bank Ashes Test in Perth, starting on Friday, but feared the worst."If they go 3-0 down (in Perth) they could easily lose 5-0," Botham said."They don't want to be the side that lost the Ashes and goes down like that. So they've got to fight back and they've got to show some guts."They've got to think about Mitchell Johnson. He bowls in three or four over bursts. He's one quick bowler.
"Ryan Harris does a good job but he bowls in the late 80mphs. The X-factor is Johnson. I'm sure these boys are big and good enough to play him."Botham took little heart from England's improved second-innings performance in Adelaide, and said that minor improvement must be put into context after they were bowled out for 172 in their first innings.
"They couldn't be any worse than the first innings, which was terrible," Botham told the UK's Sky Sports News."To get blown away on this wicket, which is still pretty flat and has no real pace in it, just isn't good enough at this level."I think England know that and they'll be embarrassed by their performance – and if they are not, then they should be.England have lost their last six Tests in Perth and no England side has ever recovered from two-nil down to win an Ashes series
Having just watched the highlights of the 4th day i was surprised how unsporting Mitchell Johnson has become. It wasn't one of his best days as a bowler but one has to say that his behaviour was worthy of contempt.
His pettiness and continual slating of the batsman which also involved the blocking of a batsman running between the wickets requiring the intervention of an umpire. It didn't end there either when he left the field when he targetted Broad for a bout of verbal abuse.

It's called mind games..... and itvappears to be working.
Didn't work on Root who just kept smiling at him.....
or anyone else for that matter, just made himself out to be a complete prick for most of the day, probably an enormous effort in attempting to upstage Warner i suspect
Watson reminds me of Phil Neal..... Football not cricket..... Every time Johnson yapped.....
The English will know what I mean.....
Absolute rubbish, and just a case of sour grapes.
You watched the highlights on got this impression ?
Johnson is such a nice guy I was one of the many who lost faith in him , thinking he just wasn't tough enough to be a fast bowler.
As Willy says, it is just mind games he is using out in the middle.
The fact that Anderson and Broad are two of the chirpiest in world cricket makes it prettier clear just exactly what you are Mr.Lick - A typical pommy whinger.
Broad gone. Brought down by his ego.
Wally, i didn't dream Johnson's conduct up and please don't get carried away with the 'sour grapes' crap either. I have been very critical in the way in which England have batted since day one and having just watched Broad fling the bat in the first over of the final day nothing much more needs to be said.
I am totally unbiased where sport is concerned despite my preference in seeing England do well. If they aren't playing well i will continue to voice my opinion, if imo players are misbehaving i will also call it.
We shouldn't believe that players of either side are untouchable, especially our own.
Prior also flinging the bat at just about anything. Lunch will come early methinks
Mr.Lick, MJ is an express pace bowler. One of the very few we have in current world cricket. The mental side of cricket is a big part of the game. I would bet that Johnson has been instructed to keep up his fear factor as much as he can even on this lifeless deck - he is actually a gentle giant / very nice guy and each time i see him trying to sledge i laugh to myself as i know he is just acting a playing the part of the quick bowling menace . I think this match has been much less hostile than Brisbane, and to single out MJ with comments likeDOES reek of sour grapes, and is a very unsporting comment to make.Quote:

But it's what we have come to expect from England and their fans. If we lose we are poor losers, if we win we are poor winners, but England on the other hand, no matter how much they sledge or act unsportingly always play 'tough but fair cricket'.
Shocking batting from England again this morning, 3/3 caught
One word keeps coming to mind, COMPREHENSIVE :)
