The game at this level needs better ways to remove the howlers without slowing play.
Maybe give the tv guy a limited number of challenges?
Or just let him overrule. Usually on a big appeal there is enough time for him to take a quick look and see if there is at least cause to hold up play for a full review.
It's bad enough that they undermine umpires with DRS in the first place. Why don't you just go the whole fucking hog and get rid of them altogether? Then the players can just press a button to activate the scanning robot that decides the outcome.

Better still they can toss a coin, arm wrestle or do scissors, paper, stone.

England played well below par and still managed to beat a team playing not far from their best. That could have been the one chance of winning a game in this series. However, the drama of an Ashes Series usually means throwing the current records away and watching people play with real passion. If the first test is anything to go by then this will be a great series despite some odd decisions. Let's hope the weather stays good with some fun breezy, cloudy days.

People who don’t like cricket are wrong, say experts
    15-07-13
TEST cricket is brilliant and if you disagree you are less than a buffoon, according to experts.

After yesterday’s Ashes match as exciting as smoking crack in a suit doused in petrol during a high-speed car chase, anyone bemoaning the lack of action in cricket will be forced into a re-education camp.

Cricketologist Wayne Hayes said: “You can get arseholed whilst watching it, it’s officially not allowed to be played when the weather is terrible and yesterday pissed off the entire continent of Australia.

“If all of that isn’t enough for you then you’re operating on a level of jaded I can’t actually comprehend.”

Anyone continuing to doubt test cricket is the pinnacle of mankind’s achievement will be sent footage of Viv Richards in action and given seven days to suggest anybody with half the amount of suave.

They will then be forced to watch footballers acting the giddy arsehole for eight hours straight, to see how it compares to watching a test side actually do a day’s work.

Former football fan Roy Hobbs said: “I used to dismiss cricket as being for old men, but then I realised what I was actually saying was it had a bit of dignity about it and didn’t require the attention span of a mayfly. So from now on other sports can kiss my cork-centred, leather-bound balls.”

“But Geoff Boycott can still sod off, obviously.”

Balances well against the 92 for Agar if people believe that he was out.... but it certainly counted in the result of things
Agreed these things do have a funny way of balancing themselves out.

Says the winner! it'd be even better not to have these mistakes in the first place, umpires having a mechanism to review their own mistakes would help, no?

And a bit cheeky to compare Agar with Broad.

Put away the sour grapes, there were poor decisions on both sides - Trott's second dismissal springs to mind.

Now move on, we have a test at Lords to look forward to, and England have named an unchanged squad (although I wouldn't be surprised to see Bresnan in for Finn, even though it is Finn's home ground).

True, Broad is a proven International cricketer with close to 2000 test match runs and 200 test match witckets and a 100 to his name.

Agar isn't, so yes it would be cheeky to compare them.

Ha, he said there's a rift between Watson and Clarke, and described Watson as "a cancer in the dressing room".

England won the toss and bat first. Finn out, Bresnan in.

Australia drop Starc and Cowan and bring in Khawaja and Harris.

Start delayed by the arrival of Her Majesty, or as Sky put it, "Start Delayed by Reign".

We need all the help we can get . . . I'm still sure that we'll be the England of the 20-teens . . . and how sad is that!

Australia has an amazing record at Lords. The poms last 2 wins there were 2009 and 1934!

Looking good again this time. We dismissed 3 batsmen and the Queen in the first ten overs.

I expect a couple more wickets after lunch. Harris bowling great. Patto needs to stop spraying them and go for the wickets though.

Bell & Trott feasting on fours here. The game is now evenly balanced and Australia need wickets.
