sorry - i seem to have jumped the gun a little. i've been too busy to follow the series, but for some reason i thought they had already taken over the number one spot. that said, the rankings don't necessarily mean they are the best team, but i think the current england team are the best around on their day. i still fancy the aussies next time we meet though..

    why didn't brett lee bat?

can't say that i know how handy o'keefe and hastings are with the blade, but surely lee is good for some big hitting in the final overs of a T20 match? i remember him hitting a 6 on the last ball of a one day game against india, which gave australia a win several years ago. he can hit the ball a mile when he tries.

congrats to the lankens. dilshan was just too good for us..

It's not worth the effort him padding up for the length of time he'd be at the crease.

Showing your ignorance and I hate Aussies colours again mate>

He is an athletic fielder and useful lower-order batsman, with a batting average exceeding 20 in Test cricket. Together with Mike Hussey, he has held the record for highest 7th wicket partnership for Australia in ODIs since 2005–06 (123).

No, I was just having a bit of banter with Wally about Lee as we've done so for the last 5 or 6 years until you poked your nose in again.

Atleast brett lee takes baths marmite - unlike your smelly lot

    Thanks LT.

Imagine what it will be like when/if they get the top ranking. The same poms that constantly argued that "rankings don't mean anything" for all of those years when australia were cemented into the no.1 spot, will throw a party in london in open double deckers buses, and call for MBE's for the team...

^being a fairweather cricket fan, you prolly weren't taking notice at the time, but the old "rankings don't mean anything" claim by pommy fans was often heard in cricket circles in those days. to be fair, indian fans would say the same before they were on top aswell. the way teams are more evenly poised at present, rankings actually don't mean very much i suppose. it was just that australia was head and shoulders above every other team back then, and the rankings actually did mean something

    To bloody long.

Another 'one of us' is visiting Bangkok then, so I'm sorely tempted, but to be honest I doubt it. I do need to visit an Embassy/Consulate around that time and I was going to drive to Chiang Mai, but I may be swayed...

Bangkok involves babysitters & plane tickets.

Chiang Mai involves getting in a car and the little 'un coming too.

I also have a large outlay this month, so before the 15th is pretty much impossible.

have sent message with my dates in bkk marmers. hope you make it!

    on with the cricket....

the 2nd T20 aus v SL is on tonite.

Australia need this one to stop too much momentum going SL's way.

The Australian team looks a very good team on paper - with a batting line up of David Warner, 2 Shane Watson, 3 Shaun Marsh, 4 David Hussey, 5 Cameron White (capt), 6 Steven Smith, 7 Brad Haddin (wk), 9 Mitchell Johnson, and dare i say Brett Lee at 11, australia appear to have a group of very hard hitting T20 'big bashers. i like this team so much more without micheal clarke, and punter was never really playing his natural game in T20's either.

our bowling appears good enough on paper, but a lot depends on johnson finding his mojo. which he seems to missplace quite often...

    go australia!

Cameron White, when he first joined the Aussie side was an aggressive, attacking, exciting player and then he got bogged down playing defensively.

Giving him the captaincy is a terrible decision as I feel he is lucky to still be in the side and the added responsibility will only hinder his natural style of batting.

Another bad move by the seemingly confused selectors.

^ he was captain of victoria when he played very well for australia, and came to the selectors attention LT - and given the aus T20 captaincy. agreed though, he has been average, at best, since then..

As posted on the World News forum, latest news from the ECB, after police advice, is that the test match will start tomorrow at 11am as scheduled.

^ good. I'm looking forward to this test, thoroughly enjoyed the others.

Over the years, I've changed from seeing cricket as batsman dominated game, to a bowling dominated game most of the time; that's where we currently have strength in depth while the Indians...
