Skjelmose stuns Pogacar and Evenepoel with sprint to Amstel Gold Race win

Mattias Skjelmose claimed a shock victory at the men’s Amstel Gold Race as he won a sprint finish against the favourite, Tadej Pogacar, and the Olympic champion, Remco Evenepoel.

It was supposed to be a fight between Pogacar – the world champion – and Evenepoel but Denmark’s Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek) had not read the script as he beat Pogacar by the width of a tyre. Evenepoel, who recently returned from serious injuries sustained in a crash, was third.

The race took place over 255km from Maastricht in the Netherlands and concluded in gripping circumstances in Valkenburg. “I was riding for the podium,” Skjelmose said. “Already the podium would be a really good result for me. Of course, you sprint for the best result but I thought I was going to cramp, or see them go into the horizon.“

Pogacar (Emirates-XRG) appeared to have the race won when he built up a 25sec lead with about 40km remaining after going solo at the front and extended it to 30sec.

Skjelmose, 24, was the first to try to catch the three-time Tour de France and multiple Classics winner and was then joined by Belgium’s Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick-step). Working together the duo ate into Pogacar’s lead over the final climbs.

There was seemingly nothing to separate the riders in the surge to the line but Skjelmose nosed in front at the last to claim the biggest win of his career.

Ciccone edges Gall in exciting Tour of the Alps opener in Trentino

The Italian rider from LIDL-Trek returns to winning ways on home soil, claiming the opening stage of the Tour of the Alps and responding to friendly teasing from tennis star Jannik Sinner

The uphill finish in San Lorenzo Dorsino seemed tailor-made for Giulio CicconeÂ’s explosive climbing style, and the Italian made good on those expectations. On Monday, April 21, Ciccone stormed to victory in the opening stage of the 48th edition of the Tour of the Alps, ending a 22-month winless streak and showcasing his trademark panache.

The 2025 Tour of the Alps’ opening stage took place entirely in Trentino, with a start and finish in San Lorenzo Dorsino. Ciccone ended his drought—dating back to June 11, 2023, at the Critérium du Dauphiné—by powering away in the final final meters of a 7% gradient ascent, proving the perfect terrain for his explosive move.

StorerÂ’s late attack stuns top favorites in Tour of the Alps stage 2

Something clicked between Michael Storer and the Tour of the Alps back in April 2022. That year, as in 2025, the Euroregional stage race concluded in Lienz—and the Australian surprised many by finishing second overall behind Romain Bardet.

On Tuesday, April 22nd, at the end of stage 2 of the 2025 Tour of the Alps—178 km from Mezzolombardo (Trentino) to Sterzing-Ratschings/Vipiteno-Racines (Südtirol/Alto Adige) —Storer delivered an even more impressive performance. Launching a decisive uphill attack on the short yet punishing Obertelves/Telves di Sopra climb, he dropped his GC rivals and crossed the finish line solo, with a 41-second gap.

It was one of the finest victories of the 28-year-old Perth nativeÂ’s career. Based in Italy for several years, Storer now also dons the Melinda Green Jersey as the raceÂ’s GC leader. With the overall lead in hand, the Tudor Pro Cycling Team rider now faces the challenge of defending it in the intense battles to come before the finale in Lienz.

Stage 3 - Tour of The Alps

Frigo breaks through in Innichen/San Candido. Storer still in green

The 25-year-old Italian launches a long-range attack, solos over Furkelpass/Passo Furcia and Vierschachberg/Monte Versciaco to claim his maiden pro win on stage 3 of the Tour of the Alps. The GC battle remains largely unchanged as Hindley wins the sprint for the chasers. Tomorrow’s stage 4 ends in Obertilliach, featuring a passage through Sexten/Sesto Pusteria, hometown of Jannik Sinner.

Stage 4 - Tour of The Alps

Thymen Arensman explodes Tour of the Alps GC with first win for INEOS on stage 4 taking race lead from Michael Storer

The general classification of the 2025 Tour of the Alps has been completed exploded on stage 4 as Thymen Arensman secured the first win of his INEOS Grenadiers career, narrowly taking the race lead from Michael Storer.

After a six-man group of Lennart Jasch, Felix Engelhardt, Kim Heiduk, Geoffrey Bouchard, Andrea Pietrobon and Emanuel Zangerle went clear in the early breakaway of the day, they'd all been caught by 60km to go. From there, the general classification fight was ignited, firstly through the INEOS Grenadiers leader Thymen Arensman. The Dutchman attacked from way out, and as he entered the final 25km, Arensman was 45 seconds clear of nearest chaser Derek Gee, with race leader Michael Storer 3 : 00 down. Notably, Arensman started the day 1 : 18 down on Storer, whilst Gee was 2 : 11 behind.

USA Pro Road Championships: Emily Ehrlich holds off Kristen Faulkner to win elite women's TT title

Emily Ehrlich (Virginia's Blue Ridge TWENTY28) held off Olympic road race champion Kristen Faulkner (EF Education-Oatly) to win the women's elite time trial title at the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships in Charleston, West Virginia.

Ehrlich scorched the course with a time of 43:04 to move Alia Shafi (Fount Cycling Guild) out of the hot seat with only one rider to finish, last year's runner-up Faulkner. The EF Education rider crossed the line 27 seconds off the pace of Ehrlich to finish with the silver medal for a second consecutive time. Shafi's time was good for the bronze.

"Today, what can I say, it was awesome. This is everything for me. If there was one thing in cycling when I started riding and racing that I wanted to do, this was it. This really feels like a culmination of it all for me,” Ehrlich told USA Cycling representatives at the finish.
