Amy Yang wins the Women's PGA Championship for her first major title

Amy Yang built a huge lead and survived a couple of late mistakes to win her long-awaited first major title on Sunday, a three-shot victory in the KMPG Women’s PGA Championship.

Yang closed with an even-par 72 at Sahalee to finish at 7-under 281. She was nearly flawless for the first 15 holes and reached 10 under for the tournament for a seven-shot lead before running into a little bit of trouble. But none of her pursuers was able to mount a significant charge.

At age 34, Yang is the oldest major winner on the LPGA Tour since Angela Stanford won the 2018 Evian Championship at age 40. Anna Nordqvist had recently turned 34 when she won the Women’s British Open in 2021.

This was Yang’s 75th major start, the most before a player’s first major title since Stanford, who was playing her 76th.

Scottie Scheffler wins Travelers Championship in a playoff as protesters storm 18th green

Scheffler beat Tom Kim in a one-hole playoff on Sunday afternoon to win the Travelers Championship in Connecticut. He posted a final-round 66, which dropped him to 22-under on the week, and then he quickly closed out Kim with a short par putt in the playoff to officially grab the win.

Scheffler is now the first player in PGA Tour history to grab six wins in a single season before July since Arnold Palmer did so in 1962.

Eight-hole playoff finalizes Monday qualifiers for Rocket Mortgage

At one of the more dramatic Monday qualifiers in recent memory, it took eight playoff holes to determine the final two of four available spots in this week's Rocket Mortgage Classic. The reward is well worth it: a PGA TOUR tee time.

Brandon Berry, Angelo Giantsopoulos, Danny Guise and Nick Bienz advanced from a 5-for-4 playoff, with the latter two earning spots on the eighth extra hole at The Orchards Golf Club in Washington, Michigan. They'll advance to compete at this week's Rocket Mortgage Classic; Beau Breault was the odd man out after all five players carded 7-under 65 in Monday's qualifier.

Berry and Guise have shown a propensity for success at Monday qualifiers in recent times; this marks Berry's third successful Monday qualifier on TOUR this season, while Guise Monday qualified into four TOUR events a year ago. Giantsopoulos and Bienz will each make their PGA TOUR debut in "Motown."

This year, a total of $3 million will be distributed amongst the 35 teams (who made the cut) playing at Midlands, Michigan. What will the winner get? Unlike last year, when Elizabeth Szokol and Cheyenne Knight received $328,115 each, this year the winning team will have an increased $366,082 for one player.

After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 33 teams and ties. The purse of $3 million will award a first-place team prize of $732,165 ($366,082 each).

Thailand's Thitikul and China's Yin capture LPGA pairs title

Thailand's Atthaya Thitikul sank a 10-foot birdie putt at the par-3 18th hole on Sunday to give herself and China's Yin Ruoning the victory at the LPGA Great Lakes Bay Invitational.

The 21-year-old Asian stars combined for an eight-under-par 62 in the four-ball final round at Michigan's Midland Country Club to finish 72 holes on 22-under 258 and edge Americans Jennifer Kupcho and Ally Ewing by one stroke.

"We just had a lot of fun," Yin said. "We keep each other accountable."

Cam Davis wins Rocket Mortgage Classic again after Akshay Bhatia bogeys the 18^th

Cam Davis made it a double-up in the Motor City on Sunday, when he survived unusually difficult conditions at Detroit Golf Club to win his second Rocket Mortgage Classic championship.

Davis won in 2021 in a playoff, and it looked like it might take another playoff to get his second PGA Tour victory, until Akshay Bhatia, the leader all the week, three-putted from 28 feet for a closing bogey, just his second bogey of the week. Davis shot a final-round 70 that he felt could've been, and should've been, much better, if not for a string of lipped-out putts. But it was good for an 18-under total, the same score he won with the last time, this time one stroke better than Bhatia, Aaron Rai, Davis Thompson and Min Woo Lee.

Davis Thompson wins John Deere Classic with lowest score in tournament history

Davis Thompson had been working toward a moment like this, and he wasn’t about to let anything stop him — not a soft golf course that produced the best scores of the week, not the pressure of trying to win for the first time on the PGA Tour.

He started with a two-shot lead. Six holes into the final round Sunday, Thompson had five birdies and had stretched his lead to six shots and was on his way to a four-shot victory, a spot in the next three majors and the lowest 72-hole score in the John Deere Classic.

“I’m just thankful it worked out. I got off to a great start today and was able to just kind of cruise on the back nine,” Thompson said after closing with a 7-under 64. “Getting off to a good start was crucial, and I was just able to ride the momentum coming in.”

Thompson made a 45-foot birdie putt on the first hole for a three-shot lead, and no one got closer to him the rest of the way.

The 25-year-old from Georgia finished at 28-under 256 to break by one the John Deere Classic record set by Michael Kim in 2018.

The victory gets him into the next three majors, starting with the British Open in two weeks at Royal Troon. He also will make his Masters debut next April.

Purse: Last month, it was announced that the Amundi Evian Championship prize fund would increase by another $1.5 million over the 2023 edition to $8 million. Since becoming a Major Championship in 2013, the prize fund has grown by over 146%.

Ayaka Furue Becomes First-Time Major Winner at The Amundi Evian Championship

It was a battle for the ages on Bastille Day in France as a slew of players threw punch after punch at each other, trying their best to join one of the most elite companies in professional golf as a major champion.

Xander Schauffele wins Open Championship after final-round 65

Xander Schauffele's critics used to say he didn't have the nerves or backbone to win one of golf's major championships.

Now, the 30-year-old PGA Tour star from San Diego can't stop winning them.

Two months after Schauffele captured his first major championship victory at the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, he added a second one Sunday at the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club.

"There's calmness and super stressful moments when you're trying to win a major championship," Schauffele said. "I felt them in the past -- the ones I didn't win -- and I let them get to me. Today, I felt like I did a pretty good job of weathering the storm when I needed to."

Lauren Coughlin Wins the CPKC Women's Open For Her First LPGA Tour Title

Lauren Coughlin won the CPKC Women's Open on Sunday for her first LPGA Tour title, pulling away from Haeran Ryu with a two-stroke swing on the par-3 17th.

Tied for the lead after Ryu three-putted for bogey on the par-4 16th, Coughlin hit a 6-iron to 8 feet and birdied the 195-yard 17th. Ryu then missed a 3-foot par try to fall two shots back.

"It was kind of a tweener of a club," Coughlin said. "I could really only hit 6 and I needed to take some off it or else it might have gone over, especially considering how jacked up I was at the time.

"But I hit it pretty perfect and, the putt, I thought it was almost going to stay out to the left there and just dove right at the last second. It was huge."

She finished at 13-under 275, closing with a 1-under 71 for a two-stroke victory over Mao Saigo in mostly calm conditions at Earl Grey Golf Club, with smoke from wildfires again leaving a haze over the course.

Jhonattan Vegas wins the 3M Open with a closing birdie, his first victory in 7 years

honattan Vegas won for the first time in nearly seven years, holing a 3-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole for a 1-under 70 and a one-shot victory over Max Greyserman at the 3M Open on Sunday.

Vegas finished at 17-under 267 at the windy TPC Twin Cities. It’s his fourth PGA Tour victory and first for the 39-year-old from Venezuela since he won his second straight Canadian Open in 2017. He finished second in the 2021 event.

“We’re just trying to have a great week and obviously a great week turned into a win. I’m out of my head right now, so it’s incredible,” Vegas said with the trophy a couple of feet away.

Playing on a major medical extension after being limited to seven starts last season because of right elbow and shoulder surgeries, Vegas is still experiencing complications.

“I felt (the shoulder) right away on the first hole,” he said. “It was a nightmare, but luckily stayed calm and I was able to play pretty solid and not make huge mistakes.”

The victory helped ease any pain.

“Nothing feels better than this,” he said.

Moriya Jutanugarn came from behind to win her third LPGA title at the 2024 Portland Classic

With a final-round 66, Moriya Jutanugarn won in dramatic fashion at Columbia Edgewater Country Club and claimed her third win on the LPGA Tour at the 2024 Portland Classic.

“Of course it's very happy, and also, you know, like I think it's been a while I haven't been in contention and also like to handle this situation. Of course it's like nervous and exciting out there,” said Jutanugarn on her win.

“To be honest, like the last two season wasn't feel really good, you know, like to myself and stuff. But keep working on something and I guess just the hard work, it pay off.”
