Aaron Rai wins Wyndham Championship as leader implodes down stretch

Max Greyserman coming to the finish of a crazy long day, but it was all going his way.

Starting the day one back of Matt Kuchar after nearly shooting 59 in the second round Friday evening, Greyserman pulled out ahead three-quarters of the way through Sunday at the Wyndham Championship finale thanks to three eagles over the third and fourth rounds. The third of which coming on the 13th hole of the fourth round, his 31st of the day, when he spun a wedge back from 91 yards for a duce.

It was seven minutes to 7 p.m. ET with just about 75 minutes until sunset on a day that began for Greyserman at 9:40 a.m. after heavy rainfall from Tropical Storm Debby wiped out Thursday play, forcing the third and fourth rounds to both be held Sunday.

He doubled his lead to four shots as he headed to the tee of Sedgefield Country Club’s hardest hole and raced to play the last five.

    Then, golf happened.

Greyserman wiped his tee shot on the 14th hole out of bounds, then compounded it by playing his 4th shot into a bunker and ended up making a quadruple bogey. Two holes later, after rebounding with a birdie to regain the lead, he four-putted the 16th green for a double.

That opened the door for Aaron Rai. Rai was leading the chase for second all day as Greyserman raced out ahead, but as the rookie struggled, the veteran hung tough. On the 72nd, after the sun had already set, Rai threw a dart of an iron from 200 yards into the heart of the green, rolling out to just seven feet. He drained the putt to slam the door shut on Greyserman in the fairway and win the Wyndham Championship for his first PGA Tour victory.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship, Final Round | PGA Tour Highlights

Hideki Matsuyama wins PGA Tour play-offs St Jude Championship

Japan's Hideki Matsuyama survived a shaky back nine to shoot even-par 70 on Sunday at the St Jude Championship and win the opening leg of the PGA Tour's season-ending play-offs at TPC Southwind.

Matsuyama finished at 17-under 263, two strokes better than world number two Xander Schauffele (63) and defending Tour champion Viktor Hovland of Norway (66). Matsuyama used back-to-back birdies at holes 17 and 18 to secure the victory.

World number one Scottie Scheffler (66) finished alone in fourth at 14-under 266.

Matsuyama, the bronze medallist at the Paris Olympics, carried a five-stroke lead into Sunday — the largest 54-hole advantage of his career — but he faltered down the stretch. After playing his first 11 holes at 2 under, he came unravelled. He endured a bogey-par-bogey-double bogey stretch from holes 12-15 to allow Schauffele and Hovland to briefly pass him.

But Matsuyama recovered with a clutch 26-foot birdie putt on 17 and a 6-footer at 18, the toughest hole on the course.

Bradley holds nerve to win second BMW Championship

Keegan Bradley held his nerve during the final round to clinch victory in the BMW Championship at Castle Pines, near Denver.

The 2025 United States Ryder Cup captain came into Sunday with a one-shot lead from Australia's Adam Scott, who drew level after the opening hole.

But a run of three straight bogeys by Scott, from the 10th hole onwards, gave Bradley a lead he would not relinquish.

The 38-year-old, who also won the BMW Championship in a play-off with Justin Rose in 2018, bogeyed the last to finish with a level-par 72, on 12 under for the week.

He won by one stroke from Scott, compatriot Sam Burns and Sweden's Ludvig Aberg to claim his seventh PGA Tour title - and his first since last year's Travelers Championship.

Bradley will now enter next week's season-ending Tour Championship - which features just the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings - in fourth place while world number one Scottie Scheffler remains top, despite finishing joint 33rd at Castle Pines.

"Oh, man, it just shows why you've got to grind it out every week because you never know how fast it can switch," Bradley said.

Scottie Scheffler wins PGA Tour's FedEx Cup title, $25M payday

Scottie Scheffler capped off the biggest year in golf in nearly two decades by winning the biggest prize in golf.

Challenged briefly Sunday in the Tour Championship, Scheffler responded with three straight birdies to make winning look as inevitable as it has seemed all year. He closed with a 4-under 67 for a four-shot victory over Collin Morikawa to capture the FedEx Cup and its $25 million prize.

That pushed his season earnings, including bonuses, to just over $62.3 million.

    Solheim Cup 2024

    Prize money – 0.00

What do golfers get for participating in Solheim Cup?

For those selected to represent Europe or the USA, the significance lies in the genuine love for competition and the personal pride associated with representing their nation. This principle also holds true for the male equivalent, the Ryder Cup, where there is no prize money for the teams or individual players based on their performance.

La Sella Open, a competition included in the Ladies European Tour (LET) calendar, held at La Sella Golf course in Alicante between 19 and 22 September with the participation of the best golfers of the LET, exudes spectacle and glamour even before the great sporting duel begins.

La Sella Open was designated by the players themselves as the best tournament of the LET in 2023 due to the quality of the facilities and the treatment received by the organisers. Now, it faces its second edition with the same ingredients that made it so beloved when it first made waves in the world of professional women’s golf.

Jasmine Suwannapura captures third LPGA title

Thai golfer wins thrilling playoff at Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, beating American Lucy Li on the second extra hole

In a gripping finish at the Pinnacle Country Club, Jasmine Suwannapura captured her third LPGA Tour title in a dramatic playoff at the 2024 Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, presented by P&G. Suwannapura sank a 15-foot eagle putt on the second extra hole to clinch victory over American Lucy Li, after both players finished tied at 17-under following 54 holes of intense competition.

Li, starting the final round in a tie for 25th, delivered a record-breaking performance. She carded a stunning 61, featuring three eagles and six birdies. Despite early struggles with a pair of three-putt bogeys, Li stormed back with a birdie on the opening hole, followed by an eagle on the 8th that saw her vault into the lead at 12-under.

Finishing strong with eagles on holes 14 and 18, she set a new 18-hole scoring record for the tournament.

“I started with a birdie, and then I just found my rhythm,” Li said after the tournament. “The eagle on 8 was unreal, and hearing the crowd roar was special. I couldn't believe it was happening again.”

Meanwhile, Suwannapura, who teed off in the group behind, had her sights set on victory. Opening with two birdies, she remained consistent throughout, picking up critical birdies on the back nine. When Li eagled the 18th to finish at 17-under, Suwannapura responded in style, matching the eagle to force a playoff.

“The crowd was loud, and I knew Lucy had made her eagle. I just told myself to stay focused and do my job,” Suwannapura said.

The playoff saw both players find the fairway and hit the green in two on the first extra hole, but both missed their eagle chances and tapped in for birdie, sending them back to the 18th tee. On the second playoff hole, Li pulled her drive left into the rough, while Suwannapura found the centre of the fairway once again. Li’s approach ended on the fringe, leaving her with a lengthy putt, while Suwannapura’s second shot landed 15 feet from the pin. After Li’s par attempt fell short, Suwannapura drained her eagle putt to secure the win.

“This week, my mindset was solid, and I knew I had to finish strong,” the Thai said. “I told myself, ‘Just make it here, or you might not get another chance’.”

Though Li fell just short, the 21-year-old was upbeat about her performance. “It’s always better to lose when your opponent wins like that,” she said. “Jasmine played amazing, and I'm excited about the final stretch of the season.”

Sei Young Kim finished in solo third, one shot behind the playoff duo, after an eagle on the 18th. Mao Saigo and Arpichaya "Piano" Yubol rounded out the top five, while Ashleigh Buhai, the round-two leader, finished in sixth.

With the conclusion of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, the LPGA Tour now shifts to Asia for the Buick LPGA Shanghai, beginning on October 10.

Landreth, perhaps you could take your eye off the cute Asian girl golfers and add to President Trump's commentary on Arnold Palmer. Was Mr. Palmer's good fortune well-known among golf fans?

Additionally, 10 LPGA Tour participants competed in last month’s Solheim Cup while five PGA TOUR players participated in this year’s Presidents Cup. Thirteen members of the field represented their country at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, and eight different countries will be represented in Naples this December.

“We are thrilled with the collection of world-class players heading to southwest Florida this December. Interest from both tours continues to be strong, and we are incredibly pleased with the 16 mixed teams we’ve assembled,” said Rob Hartman, Grant Thornton Invitational tournament director. “These final 12 teams are comprised of many of the game’s rising stars, current-year LPGA Tour and PGA TOUR winners and members of both the 2024 Solheim Cup and Presidents Cup. Our inaugural year was extremely well received, and we know that our tournament partners, fans and our global television audience are sure to again enjoy an exciting and unique three days of competition.”

The tournament’s 32-player field, which is evenly comprised of PGA TOUR and LPGA Tour professionals playing on 16 mixed teams, will compete for an equal purse of $4 million, while also experiencing equal visibility and a different format each day. The unique and exciting approach during the three-day professional competition will include Scramble, Foursomes and a Modified Four-Ball format. More information on the format can be found here: Grant Thornton Invitational golf tournament unveils three distinct formats for mixed-team play.
