And now a red flag which is a massive help for Ocon and Mad Max.

The stars have aligned for a Mad Max win methinks. Only 32 laps gone so we might well hit the two hour limit as well.

Well while all around him were losing their heads, Mad Max got a bit of luck and used it to hit the front and stay there.

Alpine going mental with Ocon in 2nd and Gasly in 3rd.

Lando had a bad day, and he's probably due a penalty after the race too.

Credit where it’s due. Verstappen drove an awesome race in horrible conditions. After the nightmare of qualification, he got into the top two and he was able to take advantage of a free tyre stop under the red flag. Win some lose some. Chaotic racing but Verstappen had to do the hard yards driving to get into that position.

The stewards, probably rightly, decided against imposing penalties. They made such a fucking mess of that it would have been a bit rich.

Mad Max can win the title with a win in Vegas.

Really exceptional stuff from Max. He won the world championsip right there.
The red flag was very bad timing for Lando. McLaren have the Constructors' as their priority so it made sense for them to call him in for new tyres. Lady Luck then made that a bad call.
George Russell made the same move at the same time but in his case I reckon the team should have listened to him and let him make the call to stay out. MB are going nowhere in the Constructors' and had they let George make the call then he might have won that race.
Brilliant for Alpine, who have had a rubbish car all season and suddenly got 2 podium places.
Sainz and Perez, again, let their ambitions exceed their talents. Nil points.
As for the penalties: Lando and George both got fines and reprimands for screwing up the aborted start, others who followed them were let off.
George and Sir Lewis got fined for adjusting tyre pressures without first removing them from the car.
Meanwhile, RedBull are whining, again. Something about MB and their tyres.

Did Leclerc get fined for swearing? Plenty of bad tempered drivers out there.

He was fined. Euros 10K, half being suspended if he is a good boy in future.

It was one of the greatest drives to the front in modern history. That said, there was this...

I was watching the Imola race in 1994 when he died. As soon as I saw the accident with his head slumped over the wheel, I knew he was dead. A tragic loss for F1.

A friend of mine was in the Williams garage.

They knew straight away from the telemetry.

Toto should think about replacing him

"That was a disaster of a weekend, guys," Hamilton said on team radio. "The worst the car has ever been. Thank you for contributing to try and great job to all the guys at the pit-stop.

"If this is the last time I get to perform it was a shame it wasn't great but (I am) grateful for you."

Then, speaking to Sky Sports F1, he added that he "could happily go and take a holiday" rather than drive at the season-ending triple-header in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

After exiting Sprint Qualifying early on Friday, Hamilton said he was "not massively bothered" by what happened over the remainder of the weekend.

Despite not offering any official comment, Mercedes sources have indicated to Sky Sports News that there are no doubts within the team that Hamilton will drive in the next three races.

Mercedes can probably only afford to run one car at the next 3 races. Someone keeps breaking the cars, putting the team over the budget cap?

The mechanics won’t make much on labour costs. Have you seen how fast they can do tyre changes?

Oh this is going to be fun! The GPDA ( F1 drivers union ) have issued a statement about swearing fines in which they basically tell Sulayem to fuck off and stop treating them like kids. They've also as much as told him that what jewelry or underpants they wear is none of his fucking business.

And more, they'd asked for details of where the fine money is going.

The little toerag will no doubt get snotty having lost face, but he's rather limited in what he can do as most of the teams don't like him anyway.

Russell and Sainz on the front row
Gasly (!) and Pepe on the second row.

Sir Lewis 10th, doing donuts instead of a lap

I wonder what Gasly had for breakfast, something with extra brave pills in it.
I hope he can carry that performance into the race, it will make it all more interesting.

    Don't forget the Mercedes 1-2.

George changing his mind about flying straight out might cost him a few bob.

Still the Constructors to be decided.

That's what Whinger Spice wants to win.

The Mercs are always strong in Vegas so this was no surprise.
