I'm still trying to work out what the point of this thread is when we have separate threads set up for the various sports we are interested in and which are regularly updated.

Jon Rahm completes comeback to win green jacket

The standard in golf this year proved to be the standard at Augusta National Golf Club this week. Jon Rahm, making his seventh appearance at the year's first major championship, put together a strong, steady and complete performance Sunday to rally from four strokes down and win the 2023 Masters, capturing his first green jacket.

Now a two-time major champion after previously taking the 2021 U.S. Open, Rahm is the fourth Spanish golfer to win the Masters, joining Sergio Garcia (2017), José María Olazábal (1994, 1999) and the legendary Seve Ballesteros (1980, 1983). Rahm donned the green jacket Sunday night on what would have been Ballesteros' 66th birthday on the 40th anniversary of his second Masters win. This after Rahm played a practice round with Garcia and Olazábal on Tuesday.

"History of the game is a big part of why I play and one of the reasons why I play, and Seve being one of them," Rahm said while being awarded the green jacket in Butler Cabin. "... For me to get it done on the 40th anniversary of his win, his birthday, on Easter Sunday, it's incredibly meaningful. And to finish it off the way that I did -- an unusual par, very much a Seve par -- it was, in a non-purposeful way, a testament to him. I know he was pulling for me today, and it was a great Sunday."

He added later after the round: "Never thought I was going to cry about winning a golf tournament, but I got very close on that 18th hole. And a lot of it because of what it means to me and Spanish golf. Spain's 10th major, fourth player to win the Masters and my second major win. … Lot of pride. Really proud of myself for what I did."

History did not stop there for Rahm, who became just the third golfer to win the Masters by four shots despite not leading entering the final round, joining Ballesteros (1983) and Nick Faldo (1996). He is also the first European player ever to win a Masters and U.S. Open in their career.

"I find it hard to believe that I'm the first one," he said, humbly. "If there's anything better than accomplishing something like this, it's making history."

The Masters marks the fourth win for the 28-year-old Rahm on the PGA Tour already this year with prior 2023 victories at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, The American Express and the Genesis Invitational. He appeared to take a step back with some uncommon inconsistencies in recent weeks, but Rahm was clearly on his game at Augusta National.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Rahm is is obviously one of the best young golfers on the tour, but a story that hasn’t gotten enough attention is what Phil Mickelson accomplished, yesterday.
Not a big Mickelson fan, but he carded a seven under 65 on the final round to finish second. A at age 52, Mickelson is the oldest player to finish in the top five of a Masters, and his day was the lowest round in Masters history by a player age 50 or older.

^I read a little about him and his win. Impressive!

While watching some of the tournament yesterday I thought to myself that might be the nicest golf course I’ve even seen.

America's Cup: Emirates Team NZ close up - New Justin Mitchell video posted

New Justin Mitchell video posted from last Wednesday featuring some great angles on Emirates Team New Zealand's Te Rehutai sailing in a Wind at time of filming: 7-10kts N.

Justin Mitchell: "This is probably my most epic moment of filming in this new campaign."

"From a videography perspective, its rare that the boat comes straight for you... I'm always set up on the shore and its always a bit of a calculated guess as to where the boat will pass the closest and when.

The Inside Story Behind a Giant Texas Bluefin Tuna

While the party was playing with tuna, Oestreich used a 130-pound outfit to drop a live blackfin tuna behind the boat. He spools the reel with 200-pound braided line, a 300-pound topshot and 300-pound fluorocarbon leader. He attaches a 16/0 Owner hook to the end of the top shot and bridles the small tuna.

“The bait was in the water for 10 minutes when we got the bite,” he said.

On the initial run, the big tuna dumped 800 yards of line. Oestreich puts the fish’s feat in perspective, “That’s almost a half mile straight down in about a minute.”

As the fish dumped line, Oestreich figured he had 90 pounds of drag on the reel. “We were running hellacious drag,” he said. Each member of the party took turns reeling on the fish — some people would last two or three minutes before they gave up. “When one angler was done, I would call for fresh meat on the reel,” he joked.

In 45 minutes, they had the fish to the boat, but the tuna took off again.

“You can’t chase a big tuna in deep water or you’ll fight it for hours,” pointed out Oestreich. Instead, he tried to get ahead of the fish, keep the line at an angle and keep the fish moving. He estimated he worked the tuna for two-and-a-half miles. In another 45 minutes they had it next to the boat.

But the tuna wasn’t done. With incredible pressure on the line and the rod in the rod holder, the tuna made a mad dash and snapped his 130-pound rod. Oestreich winced, “That rod cost $1,000.”

The fish was only 40 feet from the boat, so Oestreich jumped on the reel and what was left of the rod. Second captain Matt Murchinson took the boat controls. Mate Dan Haluzen worked the leader. And mates Patrick Simpson and Kurt Jackson manned the gaffs. Everything was under control and the big bluefin tuna was quickly subdued.

Florida star Trinity Thomas ties NCAA record for career perfect 10s

Reigning NCAA all-around gymnastics champion Trinity Thomas of the University of Florida earned the 28th perfect 10 of her career Saturday, tying the 27-year-old record set by Kentucky's Jenny Hansen in 1996 and matched by UCLA's Jamie Dantzscher in 2004.

Thomas earned the score on vault during NCAA championships in Fort Worth, Texas, and after weeks of speculation as to whether she would compete again this postseason due to a lower right-leg injury she sustained at Regionals last month.

How to Watch the 2023 Boston Marathon

On Monday, April 17, 2023, the World Marathon Majors will make its first stop stateside at the Boston Marathon. The 127th iteration of the race will bring Olympic champions and Paralympians together for a highly anticipated showdown from Hopkinton to Boylston Street.

In the elite race, all eyes will be on Eliud Kipchoge, who is gunning for the men’s course record in his quest to win all six World Marathon Majors. According to World Athletics, the Boston Marathon will also be the world record holder’s first time racing in the U.S. since he won the 2014 Chicago Marathon. The women’s field features nine athletes who have run under 2:20, including rising star Amane Beriso, who ran the third-fastest marathon of all time last year, and reigning world champion Gotytom Gebreslase. With many high caliber athletes scheduled to appear on both sides, this year’s race is slated to be the “fastest and most decorated Boston Marathon” in race history, organizers say.

If you can’t watch from the sidelines in Boston, don’t worry. We’ve got you covered with plenty of viewing options. Here’s how you can tune in on Marathon Monday.

    Race Details

Storylines to Follow at the 2023 Boston Marathon

Kipchoge aims to break the course record

After claiming course records at the Tokyo, Berlin, and London marathons, Kipchoge has his sights set on another historic time in Boston, a notoriously difficult route with rolling hills. The time to beat is 2:03:02, set by Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai in 2011, and Kipchoge seems well prepared to surpass it.
