Heard Gareth Edwards say his shirt from the classic match to be auctioned for charities
I remember watching this at the time All Blacks v barbars 1973

That's the way to do it.

    An epic of its time.
Been a lot written about it recently - it would never have made it to a try in the modern era - there are two head-high tackle attempts by All Black players, both of which would stop the game and result in player/s sent off and red card/s.
There would be TMO intervention and reviews of questionable forward passes . . .

But as it stands, one of the best running tries in rugby.
The Barbarians won the game 23–11
And some all-time greats from both teams that day.
Barbarians featured 7 from Wales, 3 England, 1 Scotland, 4 Ireland.

The days of long tours - All Blacks played 32 matches USA, UK, Ireland, France - winning 25, 2 draws, 5 losses between 19 October and 10 February 1973.
Tests: won against Wales, Scotland and England, drew with Ireland and lost to France
Note: Barbarians isn't a test match.

Not for skill but for sheer pace and brutality some of Jonah Lomu's tries were awesome, running the length of the pitch with tacklers bouncing off him or just running through them. Taken too young and a thoroughly nice bloke who i was pleased to meet once RIP.

I never met him but did stand a meter away for some time as we shuffled in our lines towards Immigration booth's departing Brisbane international airport once, his Super 12 (or whatever it was called back then) team were also departing the country. I'm anything but small but this guy was a fucking monster, he was probably at his peak around that time and had to be the best part of 6'6 and 125kg. Their team travelling clothes were loose fitting jeans and denim shirts but there was no hiding the sheer mass of muscle within, his neck was the size of my thighs

Cannot even begin to imagine what it must have been like as a defender for him to be coming at you one-on-one with a full head of steam up and you've got no choice but to commit to tackling him, no thank you!

A fantastic solo effort, thanks for posting as I missed the match

Great jinx and acceleration, lekker mijnheer Duhan van der Merwe or is he one of that fine old clan the MacMerve known on the emerald isle as Merveys a "Stout" alternative the sponsor's stout, as I life long Guinness toper in cold climes I must admit the Murphy's Stout served at their Cork source are an equally refreshing beverage. I've tried Beamish a couple of Times never again. There are some micro breweries making a variety of stouts for sensation seekers who boldly go beyond Mackeson.

Sorry off topic but Scottish Bellhaven is worth a go if in UK, different to all the above but a delicious street Porter

Sir Gareth Edwards' Barbarians jersey sells for £240,000
    24 February 2023

The jersey worn by Sir Gareth Edwards when he scored one of rugby's greatest tries has sold at auction for a world record £240,000.

Sir Gareth's Barbarians shirt from a 1973 match against New Zealand had an estimated value of between £150,000 and £200,000.

It beats the previous world record price for a rugby jersey of £180,000.

Other lots on Friday included one of Edwards’ British and Irish Lions jerseys from the 1974 South Africa tour, which sold for £10,000, plus various Wales shirts and jerseys from when he represented teams like a Combined England/Wales XV, East Wales and a President’s XV.

Jerseys worn by other players also featured in Friday’s auction – notably Gerald Davies’ 1971 Lions shirt worn in New Zealand (£10,500) and Sid Going’s 1969 All Blacks top against Wales (£6,000) and a New Zealand Barbarians jersey once filled by Sir Colin Meads (£3,000).
