It could be too far gone already. It's close to a lost cause

Ownership is the problem. A mafia family holding a gun to managers heads and demanding playoff revenue. No excuses.

That hasn't worked. Ownership should give a new manager some space and tell them playoffs don't matter for the next 2 seasons. The sooner the pressure is off , the sooner the team will be in the playoffs.

The Oilers have 2 games in hand, which could put them joint top with Golden Knights.

Skinner's 37 saves, Nugent-Hopkins' 200th goal lead Oilers over Blues

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored his 200th career goal to break a tie in the third period, Stuart Skinner stopped 37 shots, and the Edmonton Oilers beat the St. Louis Blues 3-1 Wednesday night.

Zach Hyman had a goal and an assist and Jesse Puljujarvi also scored to help the Oilers win their first road game after starting the season with a six-game homestand.

Ryan O'Reilly scored for St. Louis and Jordan Binnington finished with 25 saves.

Nugent-Hopkins scored with 6:16 remaining with his fourth of the season to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead. Binnington made a big save on a shot by Hyman, but Nugent-Hopkins crashed the net and scored.

Hyman added an empty-netter with 27 seconds remaining to seal the win.

The game was an early-season rematch after the Blues held the Oilers to a season-low 23 shots-on-goal en route to a 2-0 shutout victory last Saturday.

Puljujarvi got the Oilers on the scoreboard first at 6:07 of the opening period as he tipped Darnell Nurse's shot from center point past Binnington.

The Blues tied it with a power-play goal with 5 seconds left in the second period. O'Reilly batted in a rebound off Skinner's leg for his first of the season.

Nice video in the link above for Oiler fans

Brandon Hagel’s late power-play goal sends Lightning past Ducks

Brandon Hagel scored the tiebreaking power-play goal with 4:27 to play in the Lightning’s 4-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night.

Mikhail Sergachev and Nikita Kucherov scored early goals, Nick Paul added an empty-netter and Victor Hedman had two assists in Tampa Bay’s third win in four games. Brian Elliott made 19 saves for the three-time defending Eastern Conference champion Lightning, who rebounded from a loss at Los Angeles one night earlier during their three-game California road swing.

“It was tough, (because) there’s not a lot of flow on my end,” Elliott said. “They got a lucky break in the second (period) to tie it, and then we’re in a battle.”

Hagel scored a goal in his third consecutive game for the Lightning when he fired a shot past Corey Perry’s screen and over the glove of John Gibson, who stopped 26 shots in rebuilding Anaheim’s sixth consecutive loss (0-5-1) since a season-opening win over Seattle.

Detroit Red Wings' efforts undone by Boston Bruins in 5-1 loss

Brad Marchand returned just in time to spoil the Detroit Red Wings' attempts to hold their own against one of the top teams in the NHL.

Beating a forecasted Thanksgiving return following double hip surgery, Marchand had two goals and an assist for the Boston Bruins on Thursday at TD Garden. The Wings (3-2-2) skated well and created good scoring chances until the third period, when the Bruins (7-1-0) scored scored three goals in less than two minutes to pull out a 5-1 victory.

2nd period dooms Florida Panthers in loss to Philadelphia Flyers

Florida Panthers generate chances but can’t mount comeback in loss to Philadelphia Flyers

The Florida Panthers entered the second period against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday having generated most of the scoring chances through the game’s first 20 minutes.

And then, in the span of a few shifts, it was gone and Florida found itself playing catch up the rest of the night.

The Flyers scored two goals within 72 seconds of each other midway through the second period to take the lead for good as the Panthers fell 4-3 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Florida is now 4-3-2 on the season and dropped both games of this road trip. The Flyers are 5-2-0.

Bruins win 5th straight, blank Blue Jackets 4-0

Matt Grzelcyk, Charlie Coyle, Jake DeBrusk and David Pastrnak all scored for the Bruins, who have won five consecutive games and improved to 8-1-0.

Boston had recorded eight victories in a single month of October only three previous times in franchise history.

Ullmark backstopped Boston to the victory, stopping all 12 shots he faced in the opening frame of his fifth career shutout. He finished the game with an 11-save third period.

The team’s 16 points after the first nine games of the season are a franchise record.

Jack Hughes scores New Jersey Devils beat Colorado Avalanche

Jack Hughes scored on power play early in the third period and Vitek Vanecek made 24 saves for his first shutout with New Jersey in the Devils' 1-0 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night.

The Devils won for the fifth time in six games after dropping the first two games of the season. New Jersey also denied defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado’s NHL-best power play six times.

Florida Panthers, Matthew Tkachuk beat Ottawa Senators

Facing his brother, Matthew Tkachuk comes up big in Florida Panthers’ win over Senators

Florida Panthers All-Star winger Matthew Tkachuk and his younger brother Brady, a top-line forward and captain for the Ottawa Senators, met for the 14th time in their careers Saturday. Florida defeated Ottawa 5-3, with Matthew involved in three of Florida’s five goals to vault his record against his brother in the NHL to 8-6 and help the Panthers snap a two-game losing streak just in time for their upcoming four-game West Coast road trip. Florida improves to 5-3-1 on the season. Ottawa falls to 4-4-0.

Poor backcheck, late goal sinks Sharks in loss to Tampa Bay Lightning

The Sharks are making fewer mistakes now than they did near the start of the season.

When they do make them, though, they tend to be crippling in magnitude.

The Sharks allowed a Nikita Kucherov goal with 56.2 seconds left in the third period after a poor read on a backcheck and were unable to recover in a 4-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday at SAP Center.

I don't disagree. But 7 is the maximum allowable. You can't dig deeper than that and expect to make the playoffs.

    Thankfully they got 2 wins.

Demko should spend a little less time on Instagram. Spencer Martin looks like the better goalie right now. If i was the coach , I'd park Demko for a few games.

Columbus Blue Jackets flattened by New Jersey Devils

Blue Jackets breakdown: New Jersey Devils dominate with 7-1 blowout

More pressing for the Blue Jackets than a three-game losing streak and ugly 7-1 blowout loss Sunday to the New Jersey Devils is finding and fixing the root cause of those maladies.

That’s the challenge now for coach Brad Larsen, his staff and every player headed to Finland to face the Colorado Avalanche on Friday and Saturday in a NHL Global Series matchup.

“That was ugly,” Larsen said. “Really ugly. There’s no cliches here. We’ve got to get back to the root of this team here and that’s my job. This is solely on me. … this is my responsibility. I own this and we’re going to find a way out of this.”

Artemi Panarin celebrates birthday with 3 points as Rangers beat Yotes

The New York Rangers opted to give Igor Shesterkin his first back-to-back starts since his rookie season.

And just like he did in 2020, Shesterkin won them both.

“Great! Might do it again,” head coach Gerard Gallant said about Shesterkin’s play in consecutive night.

The story of the game was Artemi Panarin celebrating his birthday by having a hand in all three goals. His play helped give the Blueshirts their first win on the backend of a back-to-back set this season.

By sweeping the weekend, the Rangers are now two games over .500 (5-3-2).

Blackwood brilliant as Devils down struggling Canucks

Bo Horvat added two goals to his stat sheet Tuesday night, but said he'd give them up for a different result.

The Vancouver Canucks' captain has 10 points (eight goals, two assists) in 10 games to start the season. His team, however, continues to flounder and dropped a 5-2 decision to the visiting New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.

"Obviously the puck’s going in right now. But I'd rather be getting wins than scoring goals right now. I'd rather have none and be 9-0-0," Horvat said. "But it's not the way it's going right now. And we've got to put this one in the past and keep plugging away here."

Penguins surrender late lead again as losing streak reaches 6

Buffalo Sabres coach Don Granato knew what kind of disposition the struggling Pittsburgh Penguins carried along with their luggage as they rolled into the Nickel City on Wednesday.

“Angry, absolutely,” Granato said to media in Buffalo after a morning skate at KeyBank Arena. “There’s never an easy game when you play them. Their reputation precedes themselves in a very powerful way.”

That reputation had been sullied as of late thanks to a season-worst five-game losing streak. And, as they wore jerseys with an old logo the franchise donned during its most recent bankruptcy, the Penguins continued to suffer from a poverty of success as they fell to the Sabres, 6-3, extending their losing skid to six games, their worst such streak since February of 2020. https://triblive.com/sports/penguins...eak-reaches-6/

Reinhart scores in SO as Panthers beat Sharks 4-3

Sam Reinhart scored in the fourth round of the shootout to give the Florida Panthers a 4-3 win over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night.

Carter Verhaeghe had a goal and an assist, and Aleksander Barkov and Radko Gudas also scored for Florida. Matthew Tkachuk had three assists and Anton Lundell had two. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 36 shots.

“It was one of those nights when it’s the goalie competition you know, especially the overtime and shootout,” Bobrovsky said. "I have fun in those games.”

Pastrnak, Bruins top Rangers for seventh straight win

David Pastrnak scored his eighth goal of the season, and the Boston Bruins continued their record-setting start, defeating the New York Rangers 5-2 at Madison Square Garden on Thursday for their seventh straight win and 10th in 11 games.

Boston's 20 points and 10 wins are the most over the first 11 games in franchise history.

"Everyone's bought in," Bruins forward Trent Frederic said. "We're having fun at the rink. 'Monty' [coach Jim Montgomery] has been great to everyone. He's made it a fun environment and it's just a great time to be on the Boston Bruins right now.

Frederic was one of four different goal-scorers for Boston in the third period, joining Charlie Coyle, Jake DeBrusk and Hampus Lindholm. Linus Ullmark made 18 saves.

Colorado Avalanche win over Blue Jackets 6-3

TAMPERE, Finland — Mikko Rantanen scored three goals in his native country and the Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-3 on Friday night in the NHL's second visit to Europe this year.

Cale Makar had a goal and an assist, Logan O’Connor and J.T. Compher also scored and Nathan MacKinnon contributed four assists for the Avalanche, who stopped a two-game skid.

The teams will play again Saturday at Tampere's Nokia Arena as part of the league's Global Series. Nashville swept two games from San Jose last month in Prague to kick off the regular season, the first NHL games in Europe since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Perbix scores first NHL goal to lift Lightning past Sabres

Nick Perbix broke a third-period tie with his first NHL goal, and the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Buffalo Sabres 5-3 at Amalie Arena on Saturday.

Nikita Kucherov had a goal and three assists, and Brandon Hagel had a goal and two assists for the Lightning (7-4-1), who are 4-0-1 in their past five games. Brian Elliott made 21 saves.

"I really like the result and for a large part of the game I like the things we did," Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. "The problem was when we gave up a chance ... too many Grade-A chances in the slot. We really needed 'Moose' (Elliott) tonight."

Avalanche dominate in big-win overseas over Blue Jackets

We’ve seen Avalanches of goals time and time again. This season so far, there have not been too many performances where the Avs have shined above the rest. However, it was very much the opposite in Game 2 of the NHL Global Series.

The Colorado Avalanche pulled away from the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second period and beat them out 5-1. Saturday afternoon’s performance may have been the best of the season from the Avs, looking like the same dominant team from last year.

Reinhart scores twice as Panthers wrap up trip with win in Anaheim

Celebrating his 27th birthday, Sam Reinhart scored his first and second goals of the season to lead the Florida Panthers to a 5-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Sunday.

Improving to 7-5-1, the Panthers finished their four-game road trip with a 2-2-0 record.

"It's huge," Reinhart said of the win. "Like I said, especially at the end going home with a long travel day tomorrow, you want to keep that mood positive and up. It's a nice way to finish it."

Rutherfraud spent around 25% of the cap since his tenure began. Without spending anything on defense like he said he would. The Russians were package deal and they are fine. But then Miller ? This isn't the eastern conference.

But Rutherfraud is 73 years old and tuning 74 in Febuary. The rest of the league is making low ball offers on him, hoping he will have an old man moment. He tried virtue signaling by hiring some women. One of the women has already been fired for being immature. Diversity Beacon Rachel Doerrie Apparently Fired by Canucks - Nfyukon

Now he threw the coach under the bus in the media. Something you can do in Raleigh North Carolina. But not in a Canadian market.

This regime is 10x worse than Jim 1.0. Ownership is the problem.
