No, it's OK to take the money, just remember to tell people you're only doing it to help starving African kids and to save the whales or some shit.

^With a transfer of 100+ mill landing in your bank account you'd tell people whatever you want to tell them because at that point, you really don't need to worry about pleasing or pissing anyone off ever again. They can all go fuck themselves if they don't like it.

If this were true, they'd all be saying "I'm doing it for the money" instead of making feeble excuses.

^You guys just don't get it, I wish I could be so totally fucking naive and gullible when it comes to believing what people like sportsmen, politicians, CEO's, religious leaders, and celebrities say when they're asked where their motivation comes from

Anyways here's a pic of Henrik Stenson thinking about what he's turned his back on by accepting the sign-on deal LIV offered him and winning $4,000,000 for 3 rounds of golf over the weekend.

Back on topic, there's a rumour doing the rounds that Cam Smith's management have approached the Australian PGA about if he could still play the few tournaments he's previously said he would at the end of this year down there, should he no longer be a PGA exclusive player. My best guesstimate on this is as he's currently 2nd on the FedEx leaderboard, he'll have a crack at winning the FedEx cup (18 mill bonus money, not that it's about the money ) before deciding either way.

Are you saying that you are not in it to help Shell to power progress together with more and cleaner energy solutions. And you believe that rising standards of living for a growing global population is likely to continue to drive demand for energy, including oil and gas for years to come?

So how is it any different to any of the board expats who worked and made money in the ME? Those regimes have blood on their hands one way or another and there they are working for them, either directly or indirectly - its all the same money.

The expats at least admit it's for the money. The golfers don't. They make up bullshit like wanting to spend more time with their families, and then talk about legal action to be able to continue playing on the PGA tour. I think they are making up excuses to justify it for themselves more than anything. Not fooling anyone though.

^Yeah but nobody is going to stop importing their oil (including Canada ) or stop putting money in their coffers by having anything to do with assets they have around the world are they. Do some homework on the various companies and sporting clubs and whatnot these Arab countries own or are involved with financially, you might be surprised at how wide-spread their interests are.

^ I know exactly what they own and are involved in, aided as they have been by politicians and the so-called great and good for decades. These sand monkeys have taken over from the Swiss as the number one destination for money stolen by despots, drug dealers, traffickers, dictators et al across the globe. Get in power and start syphoning it off to the ME and then when you lose power off you go to where your money is to kick back and enjoy. My point is that its a bit hypocritical for some on here to be suggesting these golfers are one thing when in fact they are no different in taking money from the same pot.

Luke Donald has been confirmed as Henrik Stenson’s replacement to captain Europe’s 2023 Ryder Cup team in Italy.
Stenson was initially appointed Ryder Cup captain in March, only to be stripped of the role last month after electing to join several of his former Ryder Cup team-mates in signing up for the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational Series.

Donald has featured in four winning Ryder Cup teams and served as a vice-captain for the last two editions of the biennial contest, with the former world No 1 now given the task of trying to regain the trophy for Europe on home soil.

American golf chiefs have told players that Saudi-funded breakaway rebels, including England's Ian Poulter, are trying to "freeride" by taking legal action to be allowed back into PGA Tour events.
Poulter is among 11 LIV Golf players who have taken legal action in the US to get their suspension from the North American golf tour lifted.

LIV Golf has caused fractures across the golf world since attracting players with signing-on fees reportedly exceeding £100m in some cases, and a $25m (£20.6m) prize fund per event.
In a memo to members obtained by Sky News, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan wrote: "With the Saudi golf league on hiatus, they're trying to use lawyers to force their way into competition alongside our members in good standing. It's an attempt to use the Tour platform to promote themselves and to freeride on your benefits and efforts.
"To allow re-entry into our events compromises the Tour and the competition, to the detriment of our organisation, our players, our partners and our fans. The lawsuit they have filed somehow expects us to believe the opposite, which is why we intend to make our case clearly and vigorously."

The series is being bankrolled by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, sparking criticism from activists who accuse the kingdom of using the glamour of sport to enhance the kingdom's image while concerns persist about violations of human rights.

Players signed up to start competing on the LIV Golf circuit in June despite the threat of PGA Tour disciplinary action for a year.

A temporary restraining order has been sought by a trio of players - Talor Gooch, Hudson Swafford and Matt Jones - to compete from next week in the FedEx Cup play-offs which determine the season champion on the PGA Tour.
Mr Monahan said: "We have been preparing to protect our membership and contest this latest attempt to disrupt our Tour, and you should be confident in the legal merits of our position. Fundamentally, these suspended players - who are now Saudi Golf League employees - have walked away from the Tour and now want back in."

There is a month until the next LIV Golf event in Boston.
The antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour was filed in the US District Court in San Francisco.
LIV Golf said in a statement: "The players are right to have brought this action to challenge the PGA Tour's anti-competitive rules and to vindicate their rights as independent contractors to play where and when they choose. Despite the PGA Tour's effort to stifle competition, we think golfers should be allowed to play golf."
Mr Monahan said he is defending the rights of members who abide by the rules and urged players to speak out against LIV Golf.
He added: "This is your TOUR, built on the foundation that we work together for the good and growth of the organisation…and then you reap the rewards. It seems your former colleagues have forgotten one important aspect of that equation."

Is this a massive sell out or a capitulation?

PGA Tour, European Tour and LIV Golf announce merger

The PGA Tour, European Tour and rival Saudi-backed LIV Golf circuit announced a landmark agreement on Tuesday to merge and form a commercial entity to unify golf.
    Key points:

    • The organisations will work to allow LIV Golf players to reapply for PGA Tour and European tour membership
    • The announcement includes an agreement to end all pending litigation between the parties
    • Australian Cameron Smith is among a number of popular players who made the move to LIV Golf

Additionally, the three organisations said in a joint news release that they will work cooperatively to allow a process for any LIV Golf players to reapply for PGA Tour and DP World Tour membership following the 2023 season.
"After two years of disruption and distraction, this is a historic day for the game we all know and love," PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a joint news release.
The LIV Golf series is bankrolled by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund and critics have accused it of being a vehicle for the country to attempt to improve its reputation in the face of criticism of its human rights record.
The announcement of the merger includes an agreement to end all pending litigation between the participating parties.
Additionally, the Public Investment Fund will make a capital investment into the new entity to facilitate its growth and success.

"Today is a very exciting day for this special game and the people it touches around the world," said PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan. "We are proud to partner with the PGA Tour to leverage PIF's unparalleled success and track record of unlocking value and bringing innovation and global best practices to business and sectors worldwide."
The rival LIV Golf circuit launched in 2022 and lured some big-name players away from the rival circuits with staggering sums of money in 54-hole events that feature no cuts and paydays for every golfer.
Among the more popular players who made the move to LIV Golf are Hall of Fame golfer Phil Mickelson, former world number one Dustin Johnson, reigning PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka and Australian Cameron Smith.

He's "doing it for his family".

Jon Rahm has joined the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league in a deal understood to be worth up to £450m.

The 29-year-old is now the second current major champion on the
LIV circuit after US PGA champion Brooks Koepka.

In a conference call on Thursday, the Masters winner looked to explain the reasons behind his move.
"Every decision I feel like we make in life there will be somebody who agrees and likes it and somebody who doesn't, right," Rahm said.

"I made this decision because I believe it's the best for me and my family and everybody I've been able to talk to has been really supportive of me, so I'm very comfortable with my decision.
