I am unfamiliar with the sporting forum, and wandering around I could not find the Australian Open Thread

Then when I delve further I find that there is no Tennis Grand Slam thread at all on Teakdoor, not even a Wimbledon thread.

....that means I get to start The Teakdoor Tennis Grand Slam thread..... just before the forum folds with no admin keys.... Awesome!

I am starting to warm to this Medvedev character

When I first saw him I thought he looked a bit sickly and not very sporty. More like a mad russian scientist than an athlete with his big greasy forehead.

But he got properly fired up, MacEnroe style, at the umpire tonight for letting Tsitsipas get coaching during the match, and rightly so.



I like his character - and he is a top Chess player too apparently - as seems to be the case with lots of russkie kids.

Anyway I am gonna be cheering him in the final against that dago.

The Aus Open crowd are an embarrassment, booing a perfectly good player who has not stepped out of line just because he is Russian, and then doing the daft 'Siuuu' noise to put him off.

But there seems to be no truly likeable male tennis stars now since Federer has faded down the ranks a bit.

I liked Sampras in his hey-day too.

Woman's Final about to start.

Men's Doubles to follow.


My prediction?

• Barty to win the Lassie's Final, but not as easily as her semi-final.
• The Aussies to win the Men's double's final. Sure, 100%

I think Danielle Collins delivered the longest ever losers speech. These merkins don't half love to ramble on. I went for a whizz after 3 minutes and she was still talking when I got back.

I was kinds rooting for the russkie but good to know that Joko is in the shade with his mere 20 grand slams

Shame Federer is also in the shade too, and likely to remain there.

It looked like Daniil was mouthing the word 'boring' while the talking head tennis lady hogged the microphone for 6 minutes when everybody was wanting to hear the players - he was on the money there

Miss Lusty was rooting for her horn-bag Rafa and she broke out the Tunnocks Teacakes for good luck (I have got her hooked on those things)

Gotta hand it to the chipmunk-faced champ coming back from 2 sets down. And the see-saw breaks of serve were epic.
