Novak Djokovic leaves Australia after court upholds visa cancellation

Novak Djokovic has been deported from Australia ahead of the Australian Open after the full federal court dismissed the world No 1’s bid to restore his visa.

The Serbian tennis player was seen boarding an Emirates flight from Melbourne to Dubai hours after the court rejected his challenge to the decision of Australian immigration minister, Alex Hawke, to cancel the visa. The flight left shortly after 10.30pm local time (11.30am GMT).

Djokovic to be deported from Australia, court rules

    16 Jan, 2022 06:59 HomeSport News

"The government’s case included the argument that by allowing the unvaccinated Djokovic to remain in the country, it would incite anti-vaccination sentiments among the population.
“Rightly or wrongly he’s perceived to endorse an anti-vaccination view. And his presence here seems to contribute to that and could lead to more people becoming anti-vaxxers,” government lawyer Stephen Lloyd had said.

Djokovic to be deported from Australia, court rules — RT Sport News

He will not pose any physical risk to others, any more than a 2/3/4/... vaccinated visitor.

Receiving a visa from any countries' embassy has now become at the whim of a politician, up for election or not.

    Be careful with your posts.

Novak Djokovic leaves Australia after court upholds visa cancellation

    Sun 16 Jan 2022 11.46 GMT

"Reaction in Australia to the court result was mixed. The Labor opposition’s home affairs spokeswoman, Kristina Keneally, said the Morrison government had made itself “a laughing stock on the world stage”.
“The Morrison government’s own argument before the court was that Mr Djokovic’s visa should be cancelled because his presence here may foster anti-vaccination sentiment based on what he did and said before he was granted a visa,” Keneally said.

“This must prompt the question, why did Mr Morrison’s government grant him a visa to come to Australia in the first place?”

Yes, along with an ASAP pit stop at a local vaccination center if he has any sense.

'As you read about Australia deporting Novak Djokovic for not getting vaccinated keep this in mind: Australia is a country of 25 million and only 2,670 people have died of Covid. Florida is 21 million people and OVER 63,000 people have died of Covid.'

Novak Djokovic can play in the French Open even if he’s unvaccinated. The French sports minister says Novak Djokovic would be allowed to play in the French Open even if he is unvaccinated.

Tennis world number one Novak Djokovic would be granted entry to France for the French Open even if he was unvaccinated against Covid-19, the sports minister said on Friday.

French Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu told radio station France Info that Djokovic, who has openly been sceptical about the vaccine, would benefit from a special case scenario in France for major events such as the French Open. He was not deported because he is not vaccinated.

He was deported because he tried to breach entry rules at the border.

    No he wasn't.

He was an alleged threat to OZ government politically inspired actions. Part and parcel to his new relationship with UK and NaGastan.

As no new evidence was supplied and as the government would have known the details of the tennis player's original vaccination status and the details of his visa application, prior to him getting on the plane, as would the airline.

A cynical saga for a politician's own prestige, nothing more. Announced by the OZ PM after scrutinising his application prior to the tennis player barding his planes and landing in OZ.
