His autobiography Serve To Win is full of “new age jibber-jabber” as The Telegraph’s longstanding tennis correspondent Simon Briggs puts it, with chapter headings such as “How Opening My Mind Changed My Body”.

Science sceptic Novak Djokovic in his own words.

“You have this thing called telepathy, right? Or this thing called telekinesis, or instinct, intuition. I feel like [these] are the gifts from this higher order, the source, the god, whatever, that allows us to understand the higher power and higher order in ourselves.”

Dec 2018, from interview with Shortlist magazine to promote movie entitled Transcendence – Live Life Beyond The Ordinary

“I’ve seen people that … through the power of prayer, of gratitude, they managed to turn the most toxic food or most polluted food into the most healing water. Scientists have proven that molecules of water react to our emotions.”

May 2020, from Instagram Live chat with “guru” Chervin Jafarieh

"Personally, I am opposed to vaccination. I wouldn't want to be forced by someone to take a vaccine in order to be able to travel. If it becomes compulsory, what will happen? I will have to make a decision. I have my own thoughts about the matter, and whether those thoughts will change at some point, I don't know."

April 2020, From Facebook Live chat with fellow Serbian athletes
“Most doctors who study one realm of Western medicine don’t take time to familiarise themselves with alternative therapies … Progress happens only if you are open minded and open hearted. If you’re not, then you can be easily manipulated.”

Aug 2013, from Serve To Win: The 14-Day Gluten-Free Plan For Physical And Mental Excellence, by Novak Djokovic
“The first thing I do out of bed is to drink a tall glass of room-temperature water … When you drink ice water, the body needs to send additional blood to the digestive system in order to heat the water to 98.6 degrees.

“The second thing I do … I eat two spoonfuls of honey. Every day. I try to get manuka honey, which comes from New Zealand.

“After a little stretching or some light calisthenics, I’m ready for breakfast. Most days I have what I call the Power Bowl, a normal-sized bowl I fill with a mixture of gluten-free muesli or oatmeal, a handful of mixed nuts … some sunflower or pumpkin seeds, fruits on the side … a small scoop of coconut oil … rice milk, almond milk, or coconut water.

“A typical lunch is gluten-free pasta with vegetables … On match days, I have a heavy protein with my lunch … but in general, pasta is all I need.

“During practice, I go through two bottles of an energy drink containing fructose extract … After practice, I have an organic protein shake made from water mixed with rice or pea protein concentrate … and some evaporated cane juice.

“Later, when it’s time for dinner, I eat protein in the form of meat or fish. That usually means steak, chicken, or salmon, as long as it’s organic, grass-fed, free-range, wild, etc … The closer the food is to nature, the more nutritious it is.”

Aug 2013, from Serve To Win: The 14-Day Gluten-Free Plan For Physical And Mental Excellence, by Novak Djokovic

Q: What is the first thing you do in the morning?

Djokovic: "Gratitude and prayer, a couple of long, deep breaths, hugging my wife and running to my children.”

Andy Murray: “I go for a pee.”

April 2020, from Instagram Live chat with Andy Murray

... but tennis great Boris Becker, who coached Djokovic to four Australian Open titles, said the 20-time grand slam winner risked ruining his chance to cement himself as the greatest player ever by not getting vaccinated.

"It is not just about Australia. The fact is that we are living in a different world, and he is going to find it very hard to live the life of a professional tennis player travelling around without the vaccination," Becker wrote in his column in UK newspaper The Daily Mail.

"Those are the rules, whether one likes them or not, and you have to accept it. Maybe one day we will get back to a more normal situation, but at 34 he does not have much time left to pursue his goals."

My understanding of the fiasco is ...

Djokovic has not taken the vaccine.

Djokovic doesn't want to take the vaccine

Djokovic doesn't have any medical reason why he can't take it.

Djokovic caught Covid within the last 6 months (23 June 2020) and the Victorian Tennis whatever advised him that that reason alone was enough for a medical exception.

Another Tennis player also used that backdoor and she had consequentially had her Visa cancelled.

The Australian Government issued him a Visa, but that Visa was cancelled on arrival into Australia because Djokovic does not qualify.
That rule works in some places in Europe apparently, but not for entry into Australia.

Djokovic is not 'being held a prisoner' as claimed by his Father and many in his homeland.

He is free to leave Australia any time and the Australian Border Force will assist him with that process

Djokovic has the right of appeal re his Visa cancellation and currently pursuing that option.

BTW, a 4 star Hotel in Carlton Melbourne is not a slum ...

This bit of Hotel info was amusing ...
Proof of vaccination will be required before entry is permitted.
The hotel team is required to check vaccination certificates of guests for both vaccination doses or medical exemption forms at the hotel and in the restaurant and bars.
The other Refugees sharing his 4 Star Hotel are Refugees who are being processed off-shore, but require specialist medical attention and hence bought to Australia.

Of course not . . . anyone who thinks it is anything akin to a 'hostel' is an idiot. A brief look at the definition alone should suffice for most . . . most.

I thought it was not enough to have simply had Covid in the last 6 months (which has expired anyway). A blood test showing enough antibodies to make a vaccination irrelevant is required. I think even this requirement is not valid to enter Australia as they have some overly stringent rules.

No doubt, you haven't worked within these communities, these hotels have been turned into hostels ,they have community rooms prayer rooms etc etc.

And most of the fuckers aren't even refugees, but jumped on the planes in Kabul, and now getting state aid around the globe.

The British home office refer to them as guests of their hostels.

^ If that is correct then they are not overly stringent. If this blood test certificate wasn't provided as part of entry docs then the guy is a fool to go to court on Monday.

He should have apologised to his fans and gone home.

Yep, i seems that those in elite sport think they are above the rule of law, i think driven from a sense of entitlement supported by Govts wishing to allow sport to csontinue throughout the pandemic. Anecdotally it appears a high proportion of EPL "stars" also feel they don't need to be vaccinated. Time examples were set and lets hope Djokovic is one.

In a submission filed late today, his lawyers stated that, on December 30, Tennis Australia granted him a "medical exemption from COVID vaccination" on the grounds that he had recently recovered from COVID-19.

The "exemption certificate" said the date of Djokovic’s first positive COVID-19 PCR test was December 16, 2021, and that he had not had a fever or respiratory symptoms in the past 72 hours. (So he's had Covid twice!. 18 months ago and last month)

It also recorded that the conditions of the exemption were "consistent with the recommendations of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation".

Then, on January 1, Djokovic received a document from the Department of Home Affairs, saying "[his] Australia Travel Declaration [had] been assessed", and that "[his] responses indicate[d] that [he met] the requirements for a quarantine-free arrival into Australia where permitted by the jurisdiction of your arrival".

However, the defending Australian Open champion was detained by Border Force officials after arriving on a plane from Dubai and was taken to an immigration detention hotel.

If he fails to have his visa cancellation overturned and is deported, Djokovic could be barred from re-entering Australia for up to three years ...

Seems all very convenient Novak ... doesn't pass the Pub Test

    From Twitter ...

I assume the mundane reality is Djokovic did test positive in December 2021, but as an unvaccinated anti-vaxxer who had already had Covid at a spreader event he arranged in 2020, he was just too embarrassed to be public about having it again.
Hoo-boy. Novak Djokovic's submissions to the Federal Circuit Court state the tennis player had Covid as recently as mid-Dec. "a first positive COVID PCR test was recorded on 16 Dec 2021". By Dec 30, he had not had fever or respiratory symptoms of COVID-19 in the previous 72 hours
BUT the visa was issued on Nov 21 - a month earlier. He gets a medical exemption from Tennis Australia on Dec 30. He (at some stage) submits an Australian Travel Declaration to Home Affairs (not clear when - before the visa was issued in Nov, or after he gets Covid)
