They looked pretty despondent. So did the half empty stadium.

I suppose all the real rugby fans were at Twickenham where things ended more happily.

    This headline:

40,000 is "amazing" for this version of the sport?

Maybe they should have played it oop North.

    Apparently it was PH.

Although it seems England were heavy favourites so a good day for the underdog.

It would have done untold damage to our pitch but fortunately the ground staff have more than a month to fix things.

Australia won the Rugby League thing.

Played it at the Theatre of Dweebs so they were able to fill it with northern monkeys.

Just two more internationals for 2022

    Saturday 26 November
    Wales v Australia
    England v South Africa

    19 / 20 November results
    Italy 21 v South Africa 63
    Wales 12 v Georgia 13
    Scotland 52 v Argentina 29
    England 25 v New Zealand 25
    Ireland 13 v Australia 10
    France 35 v Japan 17

Austraia continuing their run of 'nearly won'
    Scotland 15 Australia 16
    France 30 Australia 29
    Italy 28 Australia 27
    Ireland 13 v Australia 10

86 points v 82; the Italy loss should never have happened, complacency and over-confidence in selecting a second-rate team, however losing to the top two teams in World Rugby rankings Ireland and France by small margins shows all is not lost. Though they've had a bad run of injuries and putting a 23 together for Wales won't be easy. And for Wales too, they'll be without Rees-Zammit, Nick Tompkins, Tommy Reffell, Christ Tshiunza and Dafydd Jenkins because the match is being played outside World Rugby's international window.

Georgia celebrate beating Wales for the first time

Wales! amazing result from Georgia to win at Cardiff their biggest win ever.
Wales humiliated - time to sack the Kiwi coach?

    World rankings Top 10
    1 Ireland
    2 France
    3 New Zealand
    4 South Africa
    5 England
    6 Scotland
    7 Argentina
    8 Australia
    9 Wales
    10 Japan

RFU, WRU, World Rugby to be served with legal proceedings by firm representing players suffering neurological impairments

The sports law firm representing more than 225 players suffering from neurological impairments will this week serve proceedings against World Rugby, the Rugby Football Union and Welsh Rugby Union.

Rylands Garth say its claimants "contend that these defendants were negligent in failing to take reasonable action in order to protect players from permanent injury caused by repetitive concussive and sub-concussive blows".

Over 20 players involved in the litigation - including England World Cup winner Steve Thompson and former Wales captain Ryan Jones - have spoken publicly about their brain injuries from playing the sport.

In a statement, Rylands Garth said that many players "now suffer from various irreversible neurological impairments, including early onset dementia, CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy), post-concussion syndrome, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease and motor neurone disease".

Allegations raised by the claimants include a failure by the three governing bodies to take any proper steps as the game turned professional to respond to a disregard for player safety and brain health at club and international level, or take adequate steps to inform, educate or warn the claimants about risks of permanent brain damage.

Other allegations surround failures to reduce the amount of contact allowed in training, reduce the number of games per season, devise and implement rules to limit the number of substitutions of non-injured players, thereby reducing the risk to players of heavy collisions, devise and implement a brain injury-specific player passport system and ensure that claimants were subjected to regular monitoring.

Rylands also represents 80 rugby league players as part of a separate potential claim against the Rugby Football League. Lawsuits in Ireland commenced last month, and a French lawsuit on behalf of those who have played rugby in France was launched on Tuesday.

"This claim isn't just about financial compensation," Rylands said. "It is also about making the game safer and ensuring current and former players get tested, so that if they are suffering a brain injury they can get the clinical help they need.

"The players we represent love the game. We aim to challenge the current perceptions of the governing bodies, to reach a point where they accept the connection between repetitive blows to the head and permanent neurological injury, and to take steps to protect players and support those who are injured."

one involved in that lawsuit is former All Black Carl Hayman, 41, reported as at one time being the world's highest-paid rugby player.
In July 2021, Hayman was diagnosed with dementia with probable CTE.
Guardian feature story: Carl Hayman: ‘I was a commodity in rugby. Now I’m paying the price’

yet rugby still doesn't have it right.

On Saturday Australian Wallaby player Nic White returned to the field . . . White seemingly looking unsteady and dazed while being attended to by an on-pitch medic.

Progressive Rugby respectfully require answers from @wallabies after a player who exhibited category 1 symptoms of brain injury (Nic White) was not permanently removed from the game

World Rugby investigating Australia not substituting Nic White after brain injury
Despite being unsteady of his feet, scrumhalf was not removed from the fray
Nic White was allowed to return to the field despite clear signs he had sustained a brain injury in the second half of his side’s 13-10 defeat against Ireland.
But despite being visibly unsteady on his feet after a tackle on Mack Hansen and an accidental collision with Josh van der Flier’s boot, the scrumhalf was not permanently removed from the fray as should have been the case.
It has since been claimed the independent match day doctor and the Australian medical team missed the crucial footage of a dazed, stumbling White because they were busy reviewing the initial tackle.
White has since been stood down for 12 days and will miss the final game of the Wallabies’ tour against Wales.

Frankly that's criminal and they should be out on their arses.

Wallabies struggling to put a 23-man team together for Saturday v Wales; from a squad of 36 they're down to just 25 to choose from.

In addition to the earlier injury list, five players who went off injured last weekend v Ireland are unavailable, plus White and Hooper who played but are on concussion stand-down (plus Porecki - that's three concussed).

But still, after losing to Georgia, WalesOnlineRugby isn't so confident:
That is perhaps why Australia, even when they limp into Cardiff with the cast of Neighbours and whoever is left, will still pose more than a little threat in the Welsh capital.

End of the year, and no more internationals until the Six Nations which commences 4 February 2023

Impacts of the Autumn series - Wales sacked coach NZer Wayne Pivac, replaced by another NZer Warren Gatland, England sacked Australian Eddie Jones and appointed an interim coach Richard Cockerill.

Australia somehow retained NZer Dave Rennie despite his 38% success rate, while NZ appears stuck with Ian Foster until the RWC.

2023's main event is the Rugby World Cup, September/October, hosted by France
    Two difficult pools A & B featuring the world's top 4 ranked teams, two easy/soft pools C and D, what a draw.

    World Rankings end 2022
    1 Ireland
    2 France
    3 New Zealand
    4 South Africa
    5 England
    6 Australia
    7 Scotland
    8 Argentina
    9 Wales
    10 Japan

EDIT: F-ing useless RWC haven't updated their own site.
    The pools are:
A New Zealand - France -Italy - Uruguay - Namibia
B South Africa - Ireland - Scotland -Tonga - Romania
    C Wales - Australia - Fiji - Georgia - Portugal
    D England - Japan - Argentina - Samoa - Chile

    Rugby trash-talking

England 79-test player Joe Marler, playing for Harlequins receives a two week ban, plus a four-week warning suspension if he re-offends this season, for abuse of opponent Jake Heenan playing for Bristol (turns out his mother is in hospital with cancer).

    Acceptable sledging?

Marler: 'I'm clearly not your brother, am I?
There's no way I'm from the same mother as you (Heenan).
    Your mum's a f*cking whore.'

When Heenan says 'You're better than that, mate', Marler further escalates the situation by repeating:
    'Your mother's a whore'.

"The player accepted that his conduct was prejudicial to the interests of the game," said the RFU's disciplinary panel chairman Gareth Graham following Friday's hearing.

A 2019 BBC Scotland documentary. It might be of interest to some

The behind-the-scenes story of Scottish rugby legend Doddie Weir, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in 2016. Doctors said he would be in a wheelchair within a year. He wasn’t. Instead, Doddie battled the disease until 2022 and made those years a mission to find a cure.
Fellow Scottish rugby legend John Beattie followed Doddie and his family for two years throughout that fight, gaining a unique insight into the life and mission of the man behind the famous tartan suit.
